The problem with basic static stretching before a game or practice is that in is calming in nature. You want to excite the nervous system and the kids, not calm them down before hand.
Using things like short jogs, bodyweight drills like lunges, bear crawls, squats, etc... to get them moving and warmed-up would be a much better choice.
Brian has a book called "Training young athletes The Grasso Method" (or something similar to that) that I can't seem to find on his website but it would be a huge help to you. Its a collection of things he has written, including programing for kids of all ages, that would shed light on a lot of the questions you have.
