Danny: If you get a black belt, and my school gets prosperous enough, I'll hire you! LOL
Of course, we don't pay assistant instructors; it's just part of their indentured servitude.
I suppose you'd have to work for the fitness subsidiary. LOL I'll get working on establishing that.

Hey Danny,
Bill Hartman emailed me roughly 18 months ago after I was seeking similar help.
His email was short, quick, to the point, and highly intelligent. In short, he assured me that my time in struggle is being spent "paying my dues" and that time, although seemingly painful, could be setting the stage for success. Smart words coming from a smart man.
Point being, after all the garbage I had to deal with, I'm a more intelligent person and trainer as out of the struggle, seeds for success were being planted. Now, those seeds are beginning to sprout and the struggles of the past have geared me to handle my future success.
My last two tidbits of advice.
1) Regardless of what is going on, make sure you are having fun! If you can't have fun regardless of the stress of the situation, you need to re-evaulate what's really important to you and make a change.
2) Don't get worked up every time a bunch of idiots try to give you a hard time. During the past year, I've been beating my brains in trying to be what other people wanted me to be, trying to be the best, all the time being constantly looked down upon.
To expand on something that Brian Grasso said to me one time..."they don't know what they don't know." The expanded version, don't get mad at the people that don't recognize your talents. They simply don't know what they don't know.
Chin up Danny! The Illinois State Lottery is up to 17 million right now...I'm feeling lucky. If I win, I'll split it with ya!

Think of the job as fuel for your career. A necessary component to keep you moving.
It may have been frustrating for you, back when you were posting the dumb stuff you saw everyday, but there was a good point to that. For every dumb thing, you put it right in your head.
I'd suggest going back to that, but take each dumb thing and turn it around and tell yourself what you'd do differently. Or, you could start a blog and tell us about it, too.
This site, alone, has so many examples of people who are fitness professionals with a variety of takes on subjects, a variety of career aspirations, etc.
Some want to train people, some want to write articles, some want to write books, some want to get deep into nutrition and the science of fitness. There's a lot of overlap and a lot of opportunity.
I'm not sure how to wrap this up. It's early...

Hey Danny!
I hear you bro...
You and I had some nice chats about that while you were staying with me (seriously though... am I not the best morning cook in the world?).
You are the most talented young trainer I have seen in 12 years... So everyone else who is reading this... HANDS OFF! Danny belongs to me!
Of course I am joking, but you know how I feel about future work together... It will just take some time to get things organized. The wheels are in motion now and I anticipate some very exciting things over the next 12 - 18 months.
For now, do what everyone else on this board has told you. Far too many young trainers have walked into this industry with the idea that they know a lot already and in their minds, are primed to become elite trainers long before they are ready. Happily, you are not one of those guys. Keep reading, keep learning and keep getting better... Your day is coming... Sooner than most.
In the meantime, give me a call... there are some things I want to chat about with you...

Wow I almost forgot I threw myself this little pity party of a thread.
Thanks a lot guys the advice and well wishes mean a lot. Its not all bad though, it just gets super frustrating. Some backround for anyone who cares.
I work for a rather large chain of gyms as a trainer. It can be a great job and a really shitty job. The problem is that this chain of gyms is in love with heart rate based training and endurance events. Not just for runners, but for everyone in the world regardless of goals. I would love to tell them all how retarded they are, but I need a job and this one pays good. So I am in a constant fight to not call them out on their retardation, plus side-step questions and comments about heart rate based training from clients and members, plus I have to toe a fine line between making money and meeting revenue goals with being honest with people and not selling them overpriced and un-necessary products.
The worst part is that I am apparently really good at side stepping because my boss tried to promote me to being in charge of all of our heart rate based training...he couldn't understand why I would turn it down.
I can't complain too much though, I get to train people and thats a blast...I love it and I am starting to really make some good money which is also nice.

Thanks a ton...that kind of compliment means a lot coming from you. I can for sure wait it out, and it sounds pretty awesome, but you let me know and I am in my car on my way to Chicago ASAP.

Forget it Brian... I claimed him first YEARS ago! Danny, transfer to UALR (exercise science degree) and come work at my club. You can start a strongman class and we can set up a satellite location (on a ground floor) where you can teach it, along with training clients in my gym (in that de-lux apartment in the skyyyy!).
