Youth Athletic DevelopmentThis is the place to go if you are an athlete, coach or parent who wants to unlock the secrets of how to develop a super-athlete.
hell to all i am 15 and i have been benching for 3 months, and i havent been getting any definition in my chest, so i talked t oone of my friends and he said i should try benching with my hards wider, so i did, he said that makes my hcest go out ot the sides, so i started doing that and then he said i should do butterflys and decline benching too to get the line i nthe middle and the line under the pecs, so i did but it takes along time so i was wondering can i get hte same looking chest by doing just benching, because i dont have time to do the other things , i dont have time, so i was thinking and i was wondering if by only benching will i still get pecs like the ones that the models have? (i know it will take longer, but what im asking is if the end results will be the same)
it doesn't matter where you want the muscle to be, you have to work your whole body. If you don't you will create imbalances which can lead to poor posture and injuries, among other things. If you want your chest to grow thats fine, but make sure the rest of your body grows with it.
I've heard that about flyes too, and regardless of whether or not its true you dont HAVE to do them. Benching is in my opinion a much better exercise to focus on, but make sure you're switching it up (dumbbell/barbell, decline/flat/incline) don't do the same kind each workout. Also, definition comes from diet, not from which exercises you are doing.

yea...you can't just train one muscle. It will make u look extremely weird. You would eventually get the V shape. Small legs and a large chest with the rest filling in the V....that doesnt look very good...

Matt,
Maybe I am sticking my nose in here but what you need is what the other guys are saying a full body workout. Try doing pyramid sets, and you must work all parts of the body (yes that means squats!!) Incline bench, flat bench and flyes is all you need, no decline. Make sure you alternate week to week between dumbell and barbell (id you do incline dumbell next week you do incline barbell. When you insline do not do a huge incline 30 to 40 degrees is more that enough. Also if you work your front delts into your routine you will start to see that definition you are looking for. Hope that helps
ill just take up swimming bc i heard it works out your whole body and also ill take up boxing ofr the bf% its easyier and u get a nicer body from swiming thanks any way
Im no professional but swiming wont build your muscles the way a balanced weigth lifting routine will espeacialy if you want to do it fast. Try picking up BOM its a great book with 3 six month routines in it.
