Youth Athletic DevelopmentThis is the place to go if you are an athlete, coach or parent who wants to unlock the secrets of how to develop a super-athlete.
i run for 40min 3x a week, i've been doing this for like a month now, i started getting a little slimer , i wasn't fat to begin with, how long does it usualy take to see a noticable different ? and is it oppisble for me to have like no fat on my abdominal area, a friend of mine doesnt but he's like that with out running
i don't really know the answer to your question...however, i strongly suggest that you add some HIIT into your running program. I obviously have no clue whether or not you play sports, but either way, definitely add HIIT to your running program. how often, unless you run XC, are you going to run for 40 minutes in a row? HIIT will increase your speed and your endurance for sprints. stick with the running, but i strongly suggest that you add HIIT and other sprint work to your program.
there's my 10 cents, my 2 cents is free

kevin..i believe that you had me go running with you for about 35 minutes..im pretty sure that neither of us are on cross country...but it is good maybe once a week to do a longer run...HIIT the rest of the time...
btw...i dont know if you can really get rid of all the fat, but u can get rid of most of it..
im 5'6" 120-125 lbs and i still havent done this..i was down to 110-115 during soccer season...just keep up and try not to give up..i did that a few times and it is so hard to get back going..you need to find a good routine and stick to it...
try that ab one i told u about in the other thread, a nice HIIT one...and try out Pendulum Training on T-nation..also a link in FAQ's routine thread....
btw..do you have a weight bench...etc... at your house..a gym membership or anyhting?...if not, id try to get one..i personally like the home gym since i can go when i want and i use the high school gym once in a while...get back to me...

douglas..i believe that i never stated that he should stop running long distance...on the contrary, i believe i said, and i quote "stick with the runnin"...i suggested adding HIIT and sprint work because that is what a majority of daily activities call for...long distance running is for building up endurance, which is important.

btw Doug, 120-125 is way too light even for a 5'6 teenager. The reason you can't get rid of as much fat as you want isn't because you arent working hard enough, it's since you don't have a lot of LBM your body will go back and forth using muscle and fat for energy. If you keep trying to lose weight you'll just end up a smaller version of what you are now. Trust me on this I've been there. You don't have to listen to me but I suggest trying a bulk, then cut down from there. It will be a lot easier.

I didnt want to bulk either, I was scared I'd put on too much fat and undo everything I worked for. But now looking back at it, I'm glad I started trying to gain weight instead of lose it. I've gotten bigger, don't feel like a small guy at all anymore. I'm seeing some good gains in strength too. When it comes down to it I can always cut again later, and next time around it will be a lot easier since I'll have more LBM. You might not want to do it now, but later you'll be happy you did. btw, your abs are like every other muscle, they need an excess of calories to grow. going on a bulk will make them do just that, which will make it easier to get them to show later on.
