If you know the creed song you might have an inkling where this is going but if not I am a 31 yr old female happily married to my beloved and planning on starting a family. I posted a few months back in the general health forum and Galya and Annette were kind enough to give me some advice.
Since then I have been doing Lyle McDonald's RFL and have lost about 15-20lbs (depending on where my current bloat water is sitting) and think I am hanging around the 165lb mark.
I have just got back from a business trip (hence the bloat) I was waiting to be over with and now we are actively trying to conceive so I am on a more moderate approach to my weight loss diet until I get that positive test as I would like to lose a few more lbs still. I'm still working out the details here but am aiming for a highish protein, moderate carb/fat kind of thing mainly based around what I've learned listening to Lyle, Alan Aragon and Leigh. Sadly finding good solid advice on pregnancy nutrition which isn't the USDA food pyramid is hard. The obvious stuff (no soft cheese, no alcohol, no caffeine etc) is easy but I just can't agree with the lower protein high carb recommendations. I am a sedentary office worker stuck behind a desk and a video game addict at home so apart from my workouts and my dedication to climbing the stairs at work whenever possible (I work on the 4th floor) I am not highly active. I do own a GWF so I do at least have some guidance from that.
My weight training is with Kettlebells which I have fallen in love with, I'm currently working along with Andrea Du Cane's Kettlebell Goddess DVD. I haven't worked out in a couple of weeks though due to the trip and some other stuff the week before so need to get back on track with that so I can continue through my pregnancy as much as I am able.
So hope you don't mind me sharing my log with you all here. I've been lurking around here since NROL4W came out but never been highly active. Any advice would be awesome, constructive critic's are always appreciated and general comments from the peanut gallery are welcome . If you recognize the name (not that I am famous or anything) it's probably from the PN forums, Leigh's or Lyle's as that's where I have been most active in the last few years. I need a new home as I know I'm going to need some support though this life change and you guys are cool And pregnancy forums are generally not full of fitness buff's. I really want to get this right and go in and come out of it without gaining way more than I should.

Yay! A new log. And from the 2008 crop--of which I'm a member.
You might want to check out the Bradley people. I've been out of the birth scene for a while (my youngest is 10) but my memory of them is very positive with regards to diet--they recommend 100+ grams of protein and a varied diet.
Welcome! And you are really smart for getting a plan together before doing what I did which is gaining tooooonns of weight while pregnant. My life would have been so much easier if I had done the same.

It's true that getting nutrition and fitness together pre-pregnancy will really help. My SIL had the hardest time conceiving (she has PCOS), but when she cut back on refined carbs and sugar, she was finally able to get pregnant with her now 2-yr-old son. The carbs/sugar are one of the keys to regulating hormone issues when you're living with PCOS, apparently.
Oh, and I have the Kettlebell Goddess DVD too. That kicks my ass every time. I did the full body strength workout last Friday, and I was feeling so ragged by the time I was doing snatches. Love it.
@Willie: Sweet, I'll be keeping a close eye on your log
@Fang: Yes! I have been reading about the Bradley method this week, I even lucked out on a couple teaching it in my town. Considering I live in swampsville I wasn't expecting that. And yes, it was one of the few sites I had seen that I liked the food info, seemed very sensible People at home so far think I am nuts, "Why on earth wouldn't you want drugs?" Umm, cause I don't want a plastic tube inserted into my spinal column... even hubby was faintly amused at the concept although fully willing to put forth the effort to be my coach.
@GinnyLou: Aww thanks. It's one of the parts that scares me silly and one of the motivators to breastfeed for as long as possible. I hear that really helps the body get back to normal.
@NYC_Native: Thanks, I remember you too. I'm not sure my shopping trip ended up quite so low carb as I hoped, I'll have to do some math and figure out some meal plans but it's definitely low in sugar and high in fiber I am taking FertilAid as well which contains Vitex (chasteberry) in the hopes of getting my cycle and hormones back on track (been on depo shots for about 10 years)
I love that full strength workout, its my most common one to do especially on RFL when cardio is not so recommended. I'd do that 2-3 times a week. Going to be mixing it up a bit now I am off RFL though.
Food today:
B: 1 cup Raisin Bran, 2% milk
L: Chicken, hummus, olives, feta on pita and Apple sauce. (Mcalisters Deli)
D: Salad (mixed greens, roasted bell pepper, pine nuts, sunflower seeds, mushrooms, carrots, greens+ (don't laugh, I actually like the berry one), 20g dried fruit (sunsweet antioxidant mix) fat free strawberry balsamic vinigrette.) 2 x sams club chicken and mozzerella sausages. Yogurt.
Awesome thanks Stingo, hadn't come across him before.
Good day today.
Food:
B: 54g post great grains cereal, 1/2cup 2% milk, 1 large hardboiled egg, black coffee
L: Fireball sushi roll
D: Salad (as before minus the sunflower seeds) - 3 sausages.
Those sausages are yummy, they've been sitting in my freezer since before I started RFL taunting me. I prolly shouldn't have had the third (why on earth do they package in 5's? But I skipped my yogurt and the sunflower seeds which makes up for it calorie wise although I have no clue about lunch. I suspect not good. It was a last treat hubby wanted before we go back to subway for lunches.
I also forgot to note yesterday 4 cups of coffee with cream and sugar and a string cheese *slaps wrist*. Bad day for coffee. Today was better just the one cup of black with some truvia sweetener. I'll be switching to decaf soon.
Workout: - full body Athena workout (slightly modified to add some cardio)
Joint Mobility warmup
20 x 2 Hand Swings (26.5lb KB)
3x4 1 arm Military Press (26.5lb KB)
20 x 2 Hand Swings (26.5lb KB)
3x6 Front Squats (holding KB clean position) (20lb KB)
20 x 2 Hand Swings (26.5lb KB)
3x6 Lat Pulls (26.5lb KB)
20 x 2 Hand Swings (26.5lb KB)
3x4 Single Leg Dead lift (2 x 26.5lb KB's)
20 x 2 Hand Swings (26.5lb KB)
3x8 Clean, Press, Overhead Squat combo. (20lb KB)
Stretching Cooldown.
I was wiped by the clean and press combo, barely finished the third set. Would rather not launch a KB into our tv so I decided to forgo the snatches. I always skip the power breathing, typically been doing some TGU's instead but I just feel like an idiot doing the breathing (hubby is usually sitting 20' away while I work out) and it makes me light headed as well.
So yeah 2.5 week breaks from working out never a good idea.
Hey, I've seen you posting on Lyle's 'nice' forum (errr... turned pretty mean again lately).
I'm a member of a fertility forum as I'm using a natural method to prevent conception & because the vast majority of members wants to conceive, I'm bombarded with information on how to achieve this.. so, in case you want to know anything about how to 'get preggers the fastest'.. just ask (privately).
Interesting tidbit of detail (TMI for some guys): chances on getting pregnant vastly increase when dropping carbs out of sugar (and some starches) to a normal level. Not just on a 'wellness' level & in the way we have read about it so often, but also when it comes to 'the lube' stuff which is crucial for survival of the 'swimmers'.
I'm considering this week and maybe next a learning to eat week. I have spent 3 months or so on rfl had two diet breaks that were less than stellar so it occurs to me that I need to re-find a baseline eating plan that I can adjust from and move back to etc. I'm pulling together all my likes and dislikes from PN, RFL, Leigh, Alan, Warrior diet, even the weight watchers stint I did.
I hate cooking is part of my problem. If a recipe has more than 4 ingredients and takes more than 20 mins to cook I will typically gloss over it. I have gourmet nutrition, in fact I was one of the testers for it, but so many of the recipes are so bloody fiddly. Which is a shame as I used to love cooking. My father is an excellent chef, I wish I had picked up that trait. I think PN's 3-4 hour cook fest on Sunday's killed all joy I found in cooking.
At least winter is coming, I can can go back to some of my slow cook meals (i love a good stew).
I need to get away from the pre-packaged processed stuff again, I rely on that a bit too much, and I need to get my veggies back in. I'm going to finish the boxes of cereal I have and go back to my rolled oats/PP/Frozen cherries concoction. No more yogurt at subway, I looked at the tub yesterday and it had sucralose and aspartame in it.. I'll just get the apple slices if I get a side at all.
So anyhow, rambles aside, food has been pretty good this week in comparison to the last two to say the least. My weight finally crept back down today after slowly going up each day. I do weigh daily but I am not freaked out by it. I just watch the trends. So I know what I am doing this week is good, the upward creep could be my cycle too, it's screwy atm so I have no idea what to expect from it from water retention aspects.
I'm going to keep tracking while playing with stuff until I can find a good balance between easy prep and healthy nutrition. Gotta give my potential baby a healthy start. I am bad for finding a daily meal plan and then just eating that day in and day out for weeks. Makes for very easy tracking and takes all the thinking out of my diet but it is not very balanced for variety.
Some number crunching, I'm a geek, nerd and I have way too many gadgets but they make me happy
I have my GWF as previously mentioned but I also have a supa dupa bluetooth Tanita that gives way more information than one could possibly need. Call it a last splurge before all my fun money goes to baby things... (Actually that'll probably be the weight bench system and treadmill we are buying this weekend but hey, that's what money is for right? lol)

You got me.. drooling all over the keyboard from seeing that Tanita!
As for the food: I'm eating the same ole' same ole' same ole' things every day but .. still like the meals as there's a small amount of variation in them
BF: omelette w fruit (varying kinds, mostly apple or raspberries, today was banana)
PostWO meal: mostly salad chicken (today a microwavable meal)
very late lunch: salad w eggs or chicken ..
very late dinner: soup with protein (chicken/fish/lean beef meat balls)
That's it... if you can make me fulfill my New Year's resolution to cook 1 new meal out of a cookbook each week.. I'd be very happy.
Never mind what Popcornsally wants to do: cook at least 1 recipe out of each of their 87 cook books in this year..
In case you don't want to fiddle with intricate recipes : try Flavour Bible. I've recommended it to JP's gourmet member, Wendy & she loves it.. it's all about flavour associations with some more detailed info but that's a rarity.. just look up 1 item & it will tell you what can go with it. Pretty neat... if you're the adventurous type.
Which I am.. but only for eating, not for cooking

thats a whole lot of gadgets! I don't have a GWF but every one here seems to love them.
I have an old Tanita plus an entire gym in my garage which is the best!
lolz, I drooled over that Tanita for months before I got it. Hubby linked me a different one that had a wireless connection but not as many features (and only kg) and I linked that too him. He said get it.. so i did - Only downside is the bluetooth only has about a 30' range. So it lives in the hallway outside the living room where my computer is instead of the bathroom. Which means I have to streak through a cold house to weigh every morning.
Of course that also means I am now eyeballing one of those baby netbooks to live in the bedroom so I can put the scale back in the bathroom. That will almost definitely have to wait though.
Lol, I think I made that same new years resolution Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to pick that up at some point, the reviews looked very promising
@TheFitOne Hi - yeah I do love my GWF, it really showed me what a sedentary sod I was. Back in the UK (I emigrated) I worked in our family business tending the warehouse, would be carrying all kinds of heavy water heaters around. Here in the states I am an IT manager. I sit on my butt behind a desk programming reports and designing apps. If I am lucky I get to walk to the printer down the hall. Very frustrating some days.
The bench system we are getting is more for hubby. It's a Marcy Smith Machine from Sports Academy. I don't like the smith machine portion but it does have rack mounts for a free standing bar which we are adding to it. I doubt either of us will ever get to the weights where we would need spotting. He is a long distance runner wanting to add some strength training and I just like my KB's too much. It has a nice pulley system built in with various options. We've been saving up for a while for a treadmill and found a better deal which means we could get both for just a little more than the original sears treadmill I was looking at. This other one I have seen nothing but good reviews on. I think it's made by Horizon, almost half the price of the one at sears with just as good a feature set.

Not bad last week, weekend was more of an IF style with a cheat meal on both days (bbq brisket plate and frozen custard saturday, burger and fries with mini mousse dessert sunday). Results nicely show that I do have it in me to make good portion choices even if I don't weigh and measure anything. I need to work more on this, it's about time I learned how to eat for maintenance. I did see Friday that too many carbs really give me the munchies. Friday night I ended up going back and cooking up a turkey burger after dinner cause I was doing my vulture impression round the kitchen cabinets and realised I was craving protein badly. Definitely going to finish up my cereal and go back to a protein based breakfast to start the day.
Workouts.. eh, I always have trouble getting back into the swing of it when I've had a break for too long. Should be back to 3 workouts this week. Still waiting for the weight bench to come in to the store so no treadmill yet either which I was planning on using on non-workout days. With a ton of rain recently and hot humid weather our mosquito population is huge (both in pop size and individual mosquito size) and they absolutely love me so outside exercise just is not going to happen. I went out with my cats for 20 mins on Saturday to let them play and ended up with 5 bites.
