I'll see if I can find the article....it's around here somewhere......but it's basically this very fit guy describing his training session with Alwyn and how Alwyn talks about how hard 5 lbs is for the YWTL/cuban snatch type moves. And, that was a guy!

Had my surgery consult today. I have to have a complete thyroidectomy on October 1st. They will send it out for a biopsy for cancer. I should only be in the hospital about 2 days and the good news is barring any complications and I am healing well I can lift weights about 2 weeks after my surgery. Still not looking forward to going fullblown hypo until my meds are situated-means hair falling out, tiredness, water retention and prolly weight gain. Oh well, this too shall pass.

I am having a super hungry hippo day today. I assume it's from lowering my cals since Monday and really increasing my burn. I switched my workouts back to after lunch as the last 2 ones in the morning I felt really weak. Posting my eats to help keep my cals in check.

B = egg scramble with baby spinach & tomatoes, 2 pcs TJ's sprouted whole wheat toast w/2 tbl whipped cream cheese & 2 coffees w/half and half

L = salmon fillet over a bed of Green Giant Digestive Health Veggies, 300 g of cantaloupe

S = PWO shake

D = Crockpot Hungarian Goulash over basmati brown rice

S = 1/2 c cottage cheese mixed with 1/2 c Fage 0% with 1 cup of strawberries

1841 cals & 142g protein-if I need to I will go to 2000 cals and try to get my burn up to 2600.

Stage 2-A2
DB Push Pres 2/10/30
Step Up 2/20/50 still using stair
DB One Point Row 2/18 & 20/30 still use toe against wall
Static Lunge Rear Foot 2/20 & 16/30
No pushups too weak and arms sore
Plank 1 at 60 sec
DB Woodchop 2/20/15

I will have to start doing the Stage 2 workouts every 72 hrs instead of 48. I need more rest and a chance to regain strength in between workouts. I will have a relaxing 30 min walk later today and eat at higher cals.

qThe goulash was fabulous (if I do say so myself)-made it with lean pork and instead of buttered noodles or rice we had it over baked potatoes. I have been meaning to comment on your pooch-she is precious and Hungarian by adoption it seems lol. I'll have to post a pic of my baby girl-she's a black & white Jack Russell named Murphy.

Totally exhausted and hurting-having a Fibro flareup. I am going to rest and heal and do what my body needs to feel better. I will attack the weight loss and lifting on Monday if I am up to it. I just plan to take some easy walks and nap as I need to this weekend. Just going to eat at maintenance and relax.

I don't know what a Fibro flareup is but enjoy your rest and relaxation.

Basically pain and exhaustion. People with Fibro have bilateral pain spots on their bodies and deep muscle pain. When the exhaustion hits its like wading through water when you are already tired or that exhaustion that hits when you have a really bad flu bug. Stress is big factor for me and definitely had a stressful week. I have a bad feeling about my upcoming surgery and that is so totally not me. I have had 3 previous surgeries and never felt this way before. Maybe it's just the realization how important the thyroid is to the body.

Since the Stage 2-B workout is soooo strenuous for me I am switching back to working out in the afternoons. I have more energy and just generally feel better at this time of day. My goal for the week is to reach 10,000 steps everyday, stick to my calorie goal of 1900, get my burn up to 2600 daily, and to rest at least 2 days between lifting if I need to.

Eats For Today
2 c coffee w/half and half
Egg scramble w/baby spinach & tomatoes, TJ's Sprouted Whole Wheat Bread w/1 tbl of whipped cream cheese

Salmon fillet over a bed of Green Giant Healthy Heart veggies & cantaloupe

PWO shake-protein powder, banana, skim milk

Cheezboiger on Arnolds Sandwich Thin with tomatoes & onions, cantaloupe

1/2 c Fage 0% mixed with 1/2 c Breakstone's 2% cottage cheese & 1 cup strawberries

1947 cals & 148 g protein-great numbers if I can stick to them

Stage 2-B2
Deadlift from Box 2/10/40
BSS 2/10/20 had to rest between each leg
DB Pullover 2/10/25
Reverse Lunge from Box 2/10/20 have to rest between each leg
DB Prone Cuban Snatch 2/10/16 had to Barbie db these
Swiss Ball Crunch 20
Reverse Crunch 20
Hanna Side Flexion 2 20
Prone Cobra 30 sec/30 sec rest/30 sec

Intervals 20 mins
Warmup walk for 4 min

1 min jog in place
3 min walk

1 min jog in place
3 min walk

1 min jog in place
3 min walk

1 min jog in place
3 min walk

O.M.G. It took me 1 hr and 19 mins but I finished everything but 1 Prone Cobra. I have to take rests between each leg on the evil BSS and reverse lunges. I will even take up to 2 mins if I have to. I know this is changing the workout but I gotta do what I gotta do to adapt-finishing with the best form I can is more important than speed to me. Doms like crazy but it's a good feeling not an overwhelmingly painful one. It's after dinner and cals are at 1800-I will have my Fage/cot cheese/strawberry snack if I need it. Overall a good day.

Execellent day yesterday-cals were 2020 and burn was 2776. Biggest burn I have had since I got the gowearfit. The lifting session yesterday gave me a 248 cal burn-it was strenuous for me but it felt great knowing I completed everything except 1 Prone Cobra. I know this is an estimate but I consider the gowearfit a useful tool to reach my goals. Doms today but nothing horrible-will walk and try to reach my goal of 10,000 steps-my pooch Murphy really likes this. Controlling my cals will be my tough goal for today-cold & rainy here, snuggle weather but will fight the evil siren call of the couch.

Stage 2-A3
DB Push Press 2/10/30
Step 2/20/50
DB One Point Row 1/20/30
Static Lunge Rear Ft 1/20/30
DB Woodchop 2/20/20
No planks

Crappy workout-woke up with a sore hip but decided to lift cause it really was not bad at all. But as I went on pain was too great-I have bilateral pain spots in my groin from the Fibro and it radiated out from the left groin around my hip but not as far as the buttock-really weird. I am limping now too. Also TOM started after my workout so today I am in my House of Pain. (my ode to cheesy 80's hair bands lol) Going to rest and recuperate. Had a skim iced Cafe Mocha today and was delicious-I am craving chocolate so I budgeted my cals for this. Better to deal with a craving than ignore it and binge later-it satisfied me quite nicely.

195.8-new scale low. Now the inevitable water bounce dance of 4-5 lbs starts again. I have serious skin issues and water retention so numbers on the evil box of doom don't bother me (too much). I have been leaning out and the blubber around my hips has gone down so I expected a lower reading eventually. I was surprised by how accurate my gowearfit has been for me-right where I am supposed to be as far as weight is at this point. My hip is still tender today so just walking for today and maybe again tomorrow.

Not doing that at all Jen-I have horrible water retention problems. My biggest jump in a day has been 8 lbs. My typical pattern is to see a low for the month and then it will jump up and down an average of 5 lbs. I am curious to see how much water I retain after the surgery from the IV's and healing etc. I wonder if the problem will get better once my wonky thyroid is gone and my meds get optimized.

Sub. Just catching up on the logging. Looks like you are really doing well especially given the kick in the ass you were given with the diagnosis or multiple ones. I am actually pretty inspired reading this log.

Thanks so much. I think it's the fear of being almost 300 lbs again that spurs me on. Congrats on the football-you are one tough lady!

I have been thinking about my post surgery exercise. I will continue walking everyday and if all goes well the surgeon said I could start lifting again in 2 weeks. That would put me at Oct 15th if everything goes well. I am considering doing a week of the Stage 1 workouts with lighter weights if I need to and then a week of Stage 2 workouts before moving on to Stage 3. If I don't feel I am ready for Stage 3 I will extend Stage 2 as necessary. This seems a better plan to me than starting over with Stage 1 and it's better mentally for me too.

In my very recent experience with being laid up, I learned the value of the diet and rest. Keep your diet in check (near maintanance of course) while you are healing and be cool with the healing process. I know it sux to be laid out but make sure this 2 week goal that you are setting is only on the condition that you feel right about coming back. I got really good at figuring out my diet while I was on my back for 6 weeks. It kept me occupied AND I did not have any weight swings.

I am back home after surgery. The first day was a nightmare as I came out of anesthesia and woke with a severe migraine. 2 doses of Maxalt (a triptan) and morpheine did not stop the pain-one of the worst ones I have had. It finally stopped about 4 am yesterday and I was released last night. I had a total of 5 nodules and the one they were concerned about was bigger than they anticipated so it definitely had to be removed. I see the surgeon on Tuesday (if I can get an appt) and he will have the pathology results if I have cancer. I am crabby and depressed-normal after a migraine and coming out of anesthesia and off the morpheine so just trying to deal. I may try some gentle walking to get some endophins flowing for the pain. I look horrible with a slit throat and bruising that has spread down over my chest. All in all the surgery was bearable much more so than the migraine was. Keepin my fingers crossed for now...
