Tomorrow morning I'm running in the "Race to End Violence 5k" which benefits the Domestic Violence/Rape Crisis Center for victim services in our local county. A great cause!! I'm not expecting any PR's after last week's awesome results, but hey - ya never know! If the course is nice and flat and without that damn hill at the end..............

Thanks, Donna!!!

I'm just thrilled - another PR at my 5k today - 32:58!!!!! I shaved 1 minute and 10 seconds off my last race PR from last weekend! To be fair last week's course had lots of ups and downs, and this week's course was pretty much flat as a pancake - but I'm still celebrating!!!

DH and I have been running errands most of the day, including a trip to Dick's Sporting Goods to pick up some cold weather running gear -they have their Reebok cold compression gear on sale!! I picked up a couple pair of running tights, and a couple long sleeve shirts.

Tonight we are headed to the North East Yacht Club for a wine tasting. Looking forward to it - we just love wine!! Supposed to be some tasty hors d’oeuvres too!

Shopping and wine all in one day? It's my dream! I bought some cold-weather running gear today from Lucy that I'll use to lift with over the winter. We lift in our coach's garage on Saturdays and there's no heater so it gets damn cold! I'm ready though. Good to see you're doing well!

Where are you from? We may not be talking about the same yacht club. I live in Maryland, right on the Eastern Shore, and the yacht club is about 5 mins from my house!

So.....I spent most of the day yesterday recovering from the wine tasting!! We were expecting some serious yummy food, so we kept the early part of the day light on the calories so we could indulge some ..... however.....it didn't work out that way. They did have food, but the "heavy hors d’oeuvres" we were expecting ended up being individual portions given to each guest - NOT trays of stuff that you could have your fill of. And the portions were definately small. So, lack of food, and generous refills of SIX different wines, and...well....you get the picture!! I'm a little peeved that I let myself over-indulge so much since I pretty much wasted an absolutely gorgeous spectacular day yesterday! Oh well, what can ya do??

And the nerves are starting to kick in a little bit - I'm flying out to Nashville TOMORROW! Man did this trip come up FAST!

great job on the pr! any tips come from the wine tasting?

don't overlook thrift stores for cold weather running gear. merino wool or silk blend sweaters work better for me than high tech stuff and can often be had for < $5.00 from sal or g willie. army surplus glove liners are another excellent, low budget item. i have to save my running money for shoes and entry fees.

Perhaps not. I live in Harford county, but I spend a lot of my time working in Cecil county. The North East Yacht Club that I was thinking of is in Cecil county. It's technically on the Western shore, but it's only a few miles from Chesapeake City on the Eastern Shore. If its only a few miles from you, then you'd have to live in Cecil county, or even Kent County.....but then it'd be a few miles....by boat!

Actually, I'm not sure if it's technically on the western or eastern shore. Now, that I think of it I'm not sure exactly how you'd delineate the two. I'd always thought that anything south of Elkton, MD on Rte. 213 was where the "Eastern" shore began. But, I wonder what the correct line of demarcation would be?

My sales territory ends at the Kent county line. Though I rarely go that far. Not a whole lot of sales to be made in Earleville, MD.

Hmmmm...if there WERE any tips from the wine tasting, I don't remember them! They did have a couple of very good wines that we will be purchasing. There was a FANTASTIC Merlot (Eliseo Silva Merlot) - "rich with dense chewy fruit & chocolate with hints of cinnamon" - I see SEVERAL bottles of that one in my future.

Thanks for the tip on the running gear - I never thought to check out the thrift stores!!!

Ah - we ARE practically neighbors! We live in Elkton (actually between Elkton and North East). Ever been to Woody's Restaurant in North East??

Yep, I thought so! Where do you train?

And, yes, I know Woody's. I know all the restaurants in Harford, Cecil, and most of Baltimore Counties. I work for a food service distributor. If they aren't a customer, then I've likely tried to make them one!

Thanks, Bree! Yeah - oooops is right!! I'm definately blaming it on the lack of food (that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!)

I do most of my lifting workouts in my basement, but I run over at the park in Bear, DE (Glascow Park). I did, however, just join the Y over in Bear for the winter - planning on getting some spin classes and maybe some swimming on the schedule!

So - work was freakin' CRAZY today - I barely left my desk and finally just said ENOUGH at about 5 pm - by then it was too late to head to the park for a run, so I was forced to run on the dreadmill today...... NO WAY can I run on the roads that I live on, so I either would have had to drive somewhere, or just suck it up - I opted for the suck it up (because NOT running was NOT an option!!!!). Managed to survive 5 miles at LT pace - kinda zoned out to an episode of CSI so it wasn't too terrible.

My workout schedule this week is pretty much up in the air with the trip to Nashville tomorrow, so I'm officially not planning to follow my FIRST program this week and just doing the best that I can. I think I'll get a workout in Wednesday late afternoon (and I did pack my workout clothes!), but know that it's not going to happen either Tues or Thurs since those are both travel days. And Friday - I could get a nice long run in, BUT - since we are planning a 40 mile bike tour Saturday morning, thinking I may want to do a nice short, easy run, or maybe lift on Friday.

And just for the record - I really really REALLY don't want to go on this stupid work trip!!!!!!!!

I did not realize that so many people lived in the MD/PA area. There really should be an east coast Summit.

Ah, I rarely get over the border, so I'm not all that familiar with DE, other than Wilmington and the shore areas around Lewes. I'm surprised that you go to DE when there is a YMCA right near you. Stop in and tell George that I said to give you a discount (don't really do that!).

I've only ever driven through Nashville. I've always wanted to go and spend some time, but just to look at it isn't much. It was a pretty dirty and unattractive city. But, when it's a work trip it doesn't really matter where it is. You're not likely to see much of it anyway. I've been to a million cities for work, and a few I actually got to see!

The main draw to the Y over in Bear is the spin classes - they don't have them at the one in Cecil County, unfortunately. Otherwise, I would definately have signed up there!

Sorry 'bout the trip. I have a lot of friends who travel a lot for work - one that does Sunday -Thursday every week! No thanks. Once in a while maybe, but I think it would be so hard to stick to any kind of normalcy being in a different city in a hotel all the time.

haven't traveled for work in many years, but exercise really helped make it more tolerable for me. stress reducing, sleep inducing, time that felt like it was really mine and, occasionally, meeting another fanatic to play with.

Congrats on your PR! Do you ever run any of the races through SeaShore Striders?
Hiya! Haven't run any of those races yet!

So, my trip to Nasvhille went ok - the flight was do-able (meaning I didn't freak out too much! ) and I'll be much more comfortable next time (and unfortunately there WILL be a next time, I'm told!). We were super busy pretty much the whole time, so I didn't get an opportunity to get any exercise in while we were there. Probably not a bad thing, either, since we hardly ate! Breakfast at the hotel in the morning, then, on Wed - didn't eat again until almost 3pm - and then had a Luna bar at about 9pm....that's all I ate all day! And Thursday wasn't much better. I definately need to work on that next trip! Made it home safe and sound Thurs evening, and then Friday was busy all damn day - barely left my chair from 7am til about 5:30 pm so I was exhausted!

Then - Saturday morning (my 45th birthday!!), the hubby and I got up bright and early and headed to the Savage Century bike tour - we did the 40 mile portion of the ride. We were unsure about the weather - they were calling for rain - but when we woke up, it was just cloudy so we decided to go for it. About 5 miles into the ride, it started to rain and the wind was brutal! We thought about turning around, but figured, what that heck - we're out here, let's just do it! So, we did! And were totally completely exhausted afterwards - that was some ride!!!! After a shower and short nap, we went out to dinner for some sushi and a nice glass of wine. We both feel very accomplished today!! (And we both slept for about 10 hours last night!!)

Back to a more normal schedule this week - I'm anxious to get back to my FIRST program! I haven't run since Monday!

Happy Late Birthday!!! Wow, that was a crazy trip (food wise). I am a big baby when I travel and probably a pain in the ass too. I always ask customers if I can break to eat and I always have food. One of the first things I do on a trip after checking into my room is find a grocery store. In China there was one right next to the hotel where I stayed. Yummy!
