Here I go, in all my glory, for all the hard bodies to see! This is me...60 pounds too heavy (see attachment)...
I could blame it all on hypothyroidism (which does have a significant place in my loss of muscle and excess in body fat...nearly 60 lbs in 6 months), but to be honest, my umph has been lost somewhere along the way. Poor food choices and lack of workouts (well, at least consistent workouts) and the all too familiar yoyo dieting each play their part.
I am prepared to get started...What I'm most scared of is the food! I can handle the workouts...despite my round physique I still have good cardio capacity (probably due to the fact that I chase around preschoolers all day), and actually do LOVE lifting! I am taking the advice of several other members and will be joining FitDay to help with meal planning!
So...to start, here are my stats: Age: 32 Sex: Female Height: 5' 4.5" Weight: 188 (Oh, dear god!) Body Fat: ...am I really going to post this...40% (UGGGGGGGG)
I haven't taken measurments yet...but as soon as I do I will post.
Workout Experience: So...before my thyroid went heywire, I LOVED lifting and doing interval training. I was 125 lbs and about 20% body fat. I looked forward to my workouts...I followed the Body For Life lifting program, ran, cycled, hiked, snowshoeing, and occasional use of ellipitcal machines and yoga.
Since my thyroid issues I've had frequent attempts are re-energizing my love for fitness through the use of gyms like "Curves" or workout DVDs. I think my problem with these programs was the fact that I got bored! Doing the same program day after day gets old! At Curves I never felt like I was actually lifting and, to be honest, I am not that fond of cardio workouts!
Next Steps: Starting August 3, 2009...Workout A1!!!!!
Any and all thoughts and tips are welcome!
Rachel

Your beginning stats are very close to what mine were 3 years ago...now I'm down about 50 pounds, and pretty happy with my body for now. I'm also hypothyroid, but I'm older than you and was recovering from 25 years of chronic hepatitis, so it won't take you as long. Right now I"m maintaining for a little, working on body recomp. I have lots of muscle and luckily I'm good at building it, so this may be my final weight.
There are great resources here, and the support is fabulous. I started out with Body for Life and moved on to Turbulence Training and then the New Rules....all of this is very different than the Curves model. Caused a radical change in my physique, after years of low-resistance/high rep/machine work.
Sorry to hear about your thyroid problems. Hopefully you will enjoy the NROL workouts and get energized about working out again. I've only just started on them and I'm still undecided as to whether I'm going to stick with them or do something else.
As far as nutrition...I'm going to try and follow the principles in NROLFW book...I also ordered Cassandra's book (blanking on title....) and hoping it will help me out!
Hope you can get started on the program soon! Welcome.

You can post photos using your Photobucket/Flickr/some other photo webhosting account. That's what I've done so far here, because for some reason, the photo upload feature on this site is sketchy.
