Yup. I think the last time I was actually enthused to do a strength workout was during the first week of OPT. "Ooh, look, bright and shiny new plan! Yay!"

That would be some very low bf% for the secret and I agree... It is very nice.

Hey, just spending a Sunday afternoon doing some reading and catching up. Am loving this log. Nice sense of humour in the gym. I don't really know swimming so much so am looking forward to learning a bit about it.

Sometimes it's hard to muster the enthusiasm. Even worse are days like yesterday when the attitude was there, but the flesh was not willing

Thanks for stopping in! I think the secret to happiness in life is not taking myself so seriously. I hope you will find lots of humor here, always.

...

Hippo Birthday 2 Ewe!

Actually, happy birthday to me! I celebrated with 1650 m in the beautiful outside pool.

I took the day off from work, all the better to assemble my birthday lasagna* this morning. Just as I was ready to go swim, I got a call that my younger son's stomach was bugging him. I assured him I'd sign him out of camp for the day, but that he'd have to hang poolside while I swam. Of course he then puked. Knowing my son, I was certain this was a "one and done" episode. While it may not qualify me for Mother of the Year, I got in my swim, he got to do his own thing, and everyone was happy.

500 w/u
500 alternating free / back / breast
10x50 free
150 kick with flippers
DONE!

*We're talking homemade gravy (Italian American gravy), homemade meatballs, homemade lasagna. And yeah, I swam a mile. And I'll be enjoying evvvvvvvery bite of it tonight

Maybe he learned that even though you feel bad you still have to work through things. It's the best I've got.

Hey the way I look at it is as long as they can afford the therapy when I'm done with them I haven't screwed them up that bad. After screwing up something with my son last night I just went ahead and busted his bubble by telling him, you know son? I'm not perfect. The part that bothered me was just how quickly he said. I know.

Smart boy my son.

Happy birthday! That lasagna sounds scrumptious and the perfect way to celebrate it. And yes, it is "gravy," and not using that term in certain parts of New York will get you puzzled looks from some folks.

Sounds like he's well-grounded... the best favor we can do for our children.

It was interchangeable in my house, to a degree. Marinara = sauce, but toss in the meat and it became gravy. It still cracks me up, since the woman who taught us all how to cook the gravy was my 4'10" 90 lb Irish grandmother. She learned how to cook it all to keep her Italian husband happy.

Thanks Joyce for the birthday wishes!

I must confess, I had seconds of the lasagna. Other than the tomatoes in the sauce, not one vegetable was part of the meal (one of my kids actually surveyed the table and said "WHERE ARE THE VEGETABLES?!?"). The different meats, in all of their succulent glory, were phenomenal. And today... well, today is a new day

I will, however, heat up the lasagna tonight for my father. He joins us for dinner several nights a week. I know the taste of this lasagna will bring him back to a happy memory: all of the birthdays and Christmas days when my mom would serve us the exact same thing.

I'm Sicilian ... never heard anything but sauce in these parts.

I love that you don't weigh yourself! The scale can really turn one into a basketcase.

I've got a lot of ethnicities in my blood, but I don't think Italian and Sicilian are among them. Never heard of gravy referring to a tomato-based, er, condiment!

butterbeean, I think it's a regional thing (American regions) more than anything else.

Odd, isn't it? But again - I really think familiarity with / use of the term depends on which part of the country we grew up in.

2400 With a Smile

500 w/u
500 free / back / breast
250 kick with fins
10x100 <-- held a consistently faster pace than I've held in slightly longer than forever. Yay!
150 cooldown

I could have done more but after that 10x100 set I thought it wise to accept the small victory and get on with my life.

It's a constant battle with the grand parents. If they had there way they would spoil them rotten and I mean rotten.

I gotta go with Amanda on this one. It's sauce all the way in my world. In my defense I grew up eating more cajun food than anything else.

Well, my Scottish mother cooks the best Ukrainian food according to my father's side of the family. In fact, I think she's the only one who ever had traditional dinners for the family. When we went to the others' homes they cooked non-ethnic foods.

Oh, and happy belated birthday.

Ukrainian food is some of the best! My whole family is Russian/Ukrainian...but you haven't had nothing yet until you actually go to Western Ukraine and have some good home cooked borsch (not sure how to spell it)!

Ooooh...and there's some good cake too, 'Neopolitan' my mom says is the best!

Wow, my experience with Russian food was horrible. Zharkoe was awful, and everything was pickled. But, it seems that Ukraine got the better end of the slavic deal in everything except geopolitics.

400 +/- w/u (i frankly lost count)
1000 meter set:
2x200
2x150
2x100
2x50
4x50 stroke
100 kick with flippers
150 cooldown

1850 meters

I went out fast on the 2x200. After the first my training partner checked his watch and we were waaaay ahead of pace, so I told him maybe we should dial it back a little on the next one. "Well, YOU dial it back." "No, you dial it back - I was pacing off of you!" So of course we did the next one at the exact same pace

It feels good to have my speed back.

My shoulder was bugging me after the 1000 set so I kept this workout short.

I keep reading your swimming workouts and I kind of wish I liked indoor pools. You just can't work on laps in a home pool (I get dizzy from too many turns). Not that I ever had any real stamina at swimming, but it would be fun to work on.

Hi from vacationland

I've been very active, riding my bike (oh how I missed that!), walking everywhere, digging up clams by hand and swimming. Yesterday I swam for 30 minutes in the ocean, and felt as wiped as I typically do after twice as long in the pool.

Today I hit a fantastic gym (President Obama worked out there last summer! A picture of him with the owners, who clearly know what they are doing, is posted quietly on a bulletin board) for 2B:

Wide grip deadlifts 2x10 95
BSS 2x10 (25x2 db)
Underhand grip lat pulldown 2x10 82 lbs <-- up 10 from last workout
Reverse lunge from box w/ forward reach 2x10 (first set 25x2 second 20x2)
DB prone cuban snatch 2x10 (2x12.5 db)
Ball crunch 2x10 bw <-- should have used weight
Reverse crunch 2x10 bw
Lateral flexion 2x10 bw

I'm eating it up and looking forward to buckling down when September is here. But for now I'm pretending that's a loooooong way away
