Mmm, I had a mojito yesterday. (But it was after 5pm. )

Front squat / push press first set 10 second set 9, 50 lbs
Step ups 2x10 (25x2 db) <-- move up next time already!
1 point dumbbell rows 2x10 (10x2 db first set, 12.5x2db 2nd))
Static lunges rear foot elevated (20x2 db)
Push ups 2x10
Planks 2x60 seconds
Woodchops 2x17.5
The front squats were much more comfortable this go-round.
I slept through the 5:30 am swimming alarm, waking several minutes later to turn off the relentless cheerful tones of my iPhone.
Having reset the alarm for an hour later, I slept through it again.
And again.
Nine and a half hours of sleep? I can't remember the last time I attempted it, or needed it.
Is it the training? Other than Saturday's swim, the intensity hasn't been that much tougher than it's been for the past few months.
While all is well with my husband and children, I've got some drama going on with my sisters and my father. I forgot how emotions take such a toll on the physical.
I'd like to say I'm proud of myself for listening to my body, but the truth is I had no choice.
It's more of a rest week than I anticipated. And I'm ok with that.
Rest is always the best cure for a lot of woes, but especially when family stress dovetails with workouts and everything else. Hope things are less emotionally draining for you again, soon. I certainly know that constant feeling.
Ditto on what Joyce said! People say the body doesn't know the difference between all the various types of stress; it all takes the same toll. Rest up, and I hope your family issues are resolved soon!

I couldn't get up (AGAIN!) this morning, so I didn't go to my gym. Instead I hit the sub-par gym at work to get in my lift. While it's convenient, it lacks a squat rack (and has the dreaded smith machine), there's no box / step, and the dumbbells are all in 5 lb increments... except for the 3 lb weights. I've often combined a heavier db with a 3 lb db to get to my preferred weight, which is just a little awkward.
Wide grip deadlifts 2x10 90 lbs <-- 10 lb increase. It worked.
BSS 2x10 (25x2 db)
Underhand grip lat pulldown 2x10 70 lbs first set 70 lbs + ??? add-on plate second set
Reverse lunge from box w/ forward reach 1x7 (2x20 db) first set and 1x10 (2x20 db) second set*
DB prone cuban snatch 2x10 (2x10 db)**
Ball crunch 2x10 bw
Reverse crunch 2x10 bw
Lateral flexion 2x10 bw
Prone cobra 1x60 seconds***
*With no great step, I attempted the first set off of a weight bench. And almost didn't live long enough to return to my office. I decided to use the deck of a treadmill for the second set.
**(ahem) Is it me or is getting a mammogram more comfortable than this move?!?!
***Back to the book I go for these. I may have to simply do a yoga modification for this pose because it's too hard on my somewhat fragile neck.
500 w/u
10x100
50 easy
5x100 interspersing IM with freestyle
50 easy
10x50 <-- last 4 were killer
50 easy
2650 yards.
On the last set, the fastest guy in our group joined us & shared the lane with me. I joked about drafting off of him, but I honestly couldn't keep up.
I've noticed he will often do a 500 - 600 yard workout and get on with his life, whereas the rest of us feel compelled to sweat it out til the bitter end. Remember this! It's ok to get in, do quality work (even if quality means 15 minutes of sprints), then get out.
I lifted late in the day yesterday, so I wasn't surprised to be tight in the water. Sometimes life isn't perfect and workouts aren't perfectly distributed. It happens.
"You know, that couch is heavy."
You're right. It is.
"I can get help."
I'm stronger than you give me credit for.
"But you have a bad neck that you don't take seriously sometimes."
Can we just try it?
...
"You ok?"
I'm fine, but we're doing it wrong. Let's deadlift it instead. It's too awkward to grip by the arms.
"OK, got it. You ok?"
Got it. Are YOU ok?
(laughter)
It is interesting after a while that picking heavy things up in everyday life isn't that hard. I was thinking that yesterday with the propane tank. Used to be a two handed job, and often would put it down while walking it back to where it went. Yesterday I just grabbed it from the car, and walked it one-handed to the back. No big deal.

I agree, and good job on the propane tank!

I moved up in all my weights this workout and worked HARD. Like, bending over like I'm gonna hurl after the second plank HARD. Surprisingly I feel energized rather than spent.
Sometimes it sure seems like there's no rest for the wicked.
I skated out of work early and hit the pool for a fast 1000 meters, 8x150, as I ran into 2 of my swim group friends who were mid-workout.
Then, off to the races. I picked up the boys from camp, and we drove about a half-hour away. I bought a chair off craigslist (seriously? SO COMFORTABLE!). Back to town - on a quest for replacement bathing suits for them. No luck. Of course not? Heck, there's still a month to go until back to school, so why should anyone still have bathing suits out?!?
Grocery store. Dinner. Tomorrow night's dinner prep. Chicken paprikash is in the slow cooker and all I have to do is dress the salad and make egg noodles.
DONE.
Off to bed soon; it's an early day tomorrow with 2B.
Sometimes it sure seems like there's no rest for the wicked.
...money don't grow on trees. I got bills to pay, I got mouths to feed, ain't nothing in this world for free...
Yeah. Cage the Elephant, anyone? Anyone?

I was thinking more in the biblical sense
Oy, what a swim this morning. My training partner and I have identified a very important quality for the next swimmer we recruit to join our 6 am sessions: The ability to count past 17 before having a cup of coffee. Clearly, neither of us can do so.
1000 warmup (needed it!)
20x50s free on the evens / stroke on the odds <-- Maybe we did 18. Maybe we did 20. Hell, maybe we did 24. Who knows?
200, 100, 200 <-- Easier interval than normal but I made all my goal times. Hurrah!
150 cooldown
2650 yards
(Did I mention that my training partner is a CPA? And that I tried to use the lane line as an abacus but it didn't work? Next time I'm bringing 20 stones and sorting them into piles )
The latest in a series of non-scientific reports on the changes in my body composition.
Annnnnd, it's a rest day. My body demanded it. Somehow, being up from 3 - 4 am counteracts the nougaty caramel goodness of going to bed early.
I tried on two more of my summer jackets this morning and could have worn either... and that wasn't possible as recently as two weeks ago.
I see the positive changes in my body (but focus on the belly bloat due to my cycle). I feel the difference in the pool (but beat myself up for not swimming faster). I notice I'm lifting heavier and with better form than ever (but I beat myself up for the rest days).
1000 warmup (my god this helps)
4x250, middle 50 kick <-- killer
50 easy
4x125, first 50 stroke in IM order final 75 free
50 easy
5x50 sprints
100 cool down
I just wanted to swing by and thank you for the kitteh statement. I don't want to go in that thread and stir anything up. But, thank you. It made me giggle and threw me off.
Nice workouts going on in here!

And so it goes.
And so it does!
I lived in CT in the New Haven area my whole life until I moved here. Thought I'd say hi.

Quite a train wreck, eh? ... but I'm glad I made you giggle.

Hello fellow Nutmegger! Thanks for stopping in!
...
750 warmup
2x250
2x200
2x100
2x50
1950 meters
On the 2xs, we descended the second repeat so this was quite tough. I paced with a woman in my swim group and she kept me from overdoing it on the first so I had plenty left for the second. Most of the group swam inside early so it was just three women in the outside pool.
I came home HUNGRY and glad to eat some eggs to fuel me up for the rest of the day's fun.
Wherever you are in the world, dear reader, I hope your Saturday is just as fabulous as it is here in CT.
Here in CO things are pretty good. Haven't left my apt since my bike ride this morning, but while I was outside everything was pretty nice.

Good deal. I hope your bike ride was spectacular.
The rest of the day today was pretty tiring. My boys & I got together with some of their friends from back in their day care days (along with their moms). We went to a big park on the LI Sound. Lots of walking and gabbing. Combined with the swim this morning (my boys came with me for that as well and played with the children of someone in my swim group), and we're all toast, except for my husband. Early to bed tonight!
