My children do that as well actually. They will alternately cheer for the Redskins, or the Ravens, or the Maryland Terps, or the Georgia Bulldogs. My daughter likes, "the guys in red."
And every sport is football. Basketball is football, baseball is football, if it's a sport that involves a ball.....it's football!
Smart kids.
Oh, and around here we say "pick a lane and get excited."

LOL! At picking a side. I don't follow teams specifically enough to have a "team". So often I just watch football for the game and I end up cheering good plays. In the sports bars people are like, "What team are you cheering for?" Last weekend the USC/Cal game had some great athletic plays by both sides. I had to cheer for the plays. And I am with your daugther. If the team is wearing red, I tend to like them better. Some of us little girls never grow up.
On the very cool side of things, I noted watching Monday night football that both teams where wearing pink for the cure. That was so touching....

Exercise
AM Session
I was going to go for jog, but it was 51 degrees and raining and I'm just not that hardcore!
Turkish Getups - 3x2 each side with 25lbs. First time I've ever done them.
Swings - 3x20 with 25lbs.
Pistol Squat - 6x4 with 25lbs.
PM Session
Power Clean to Push Press - 8x3 at 135lbs. This is a PR!
One Arm Pushups - 4x6 This is a PR! Which seems strange because I was sure I'd done this or more, but looking back I can't see any thing more than 4x4.
Notes
I ate 4001 calories yesterday! Shazam! But, I'm only about 460 calories above my weekly maintenance. I'm finally getting used to eating a larger amount of food without having to rely on junk food or nuts. I love nuts but they tear my stomach up if I eat more than an ounce or so.
My brother in law and sister in law cheer for different teams, thus the inner termoil of a 4 year old to choose a team and which parent to appease.
I am more apathetic about most sports. When it comes to hockey though...watch out. I am happy for the Twins though - if only they actually had a chance to beat the stupid Yankees
Oi! Life caught up with me today. I had to be at work at the butt-crack of dawn so I didn't do a session this morning. But, I doubt that I'll be able to workout tonight either. I have to finish tons of work that I would typically do tomorrow, plus I have to pack for this retreat this weekend. Plus, I have to re-write my resume for a job posting that just came available, and I'm sure isn't going to stay open for long.
Hey Chad! Things are amazing in here! Your workouts are great. So, obviously the extra fuel is doing wonders for you! You are a highly motivated guy, that's for sure. Love reading about your family. I can tell you are a stand-up husband/dad. Good for you! Very nice!
I don't mind jogging in the rain in the summer time. But, not when its cold....or coldish. After four years in the Army I now have a healthy respect for creature comforts.....like staying dry.
And, yeah, the Yankees stink! I'm not even much of a baseball fan and I don't like the Yankees.

I'd have to agree. I always enjoy looking in your training log.

So, how is the spider eradication going?
Oh, they won! At least those in the basement. I moved out and surrendered that territory. Now, I'm in the garage. But, they're starting to find me! The other day I went into the garage and there was one about the size of a silver dollar hanging out by the weight stack!
I need to get a bird or a cat to eat the spiders. But, then I'd need a dog to eat the cat. And, you know how that ends. You end up with a dead old lady on your hands trying to explain how she swallowed a cow to catch the dog......and no ones buying that story!
I'm back from my retreat. It was a great time! I played a couple of pickup basketball games on Saturday, less than 24 hours after squats and deadlifts. Oh man! I was hurting. I haven't played basketball in probably ten years. I forgot how intense it is. I also realized that I'm not in the cardiovascular shape that I thought I was in. I didn't expect to be in great cardiovascular shape but I didn't expect to be this bad. There was a guy who was my age and height but about 30 pounds heavier, and a smoker, who was in the games longer than I was. There was a guy was in his mid-fifties and about 280lbs, at about 6'6". I was responsible for guarding him. He hung right there with me. Obviously, I could out manuever him. But, he stayed in the game as long as I did. I was pleased that I was able to box him out, and to even push him around the court. Basically, I could get any postion on the court that I wanted and no one could move me. So, that was a positive. I was also pleasantly surprised at my ability to jump. I was outrebounding guys that were several inches taller than me. But, I need some more track work!

You should have asked him to lay sideways and then dead lifted him. That would have impressed everybody
Endurance if for guys that aren't strong enough to knock someone out. Who needs it?
Seriously though, glad you enjoyed the retreat. It sounds like fun.

I read this and giggled... and as the visual picture keeps running through my head I keep giggling.
Glad to hear you had a good time on your retreat, even if you didn't perform as well as you'd hoped. Still sounds like a blast!
x2!! Good one. You know recently I was surprised in a good way with how well I could do cardio for football tryouts. Then last week I went to run a mile and it about killed me. Not sure what the difference was but am also thinking to add some running to the training.
And who ever heard of a spider that big??!! yikes!

Sleep: 7 hours. I've been on a roll with the sleep thing!
Exercise
Power Clean to Push Press - 4x3 at 135lbs.
Pendlay Rows - 6x8 at 155lbs. This is a PR! I've decided that I need to do rows in a couple of different fashions. The pendlay rows use a good bit of body english. But, I think I'll also do some mosr strict rows with lower weight and no use of monmentum.
Bench Press - 4x6 at 185lbs. This is a PR!
One Arm Modified T-Row - 6x6 at 115lbs. This is a PR!
Notes
In case you're wondering how I'm hitting so many PR's...well, I'll tell you. I don't think that I'm doing anything out of the ordinary, but perhaps people have different ideas about this that I'm not aware of. I don't see as many PR's in other people's logs but I've assumed that simply because I'm newer at this than most of you and haven't finished the "newbie" stage where gains come quickly. I only purchased my barbell less than five months ago.
It is my goal to hit some kind of PR in every session. But, a PR for me doesn't have to more weight. It could be completing another set or additional reps with a given weight. I try to add weight every session. But, once I start hitting a point where adding weight is problematic I'll go to a ligher weight and add more sets. So, I'm just doing that now with front squats. I hit 4x6 at 180lbs. without too much trouble. But, I couldn't get 6 reps with 185lbs. So, I'm backing down to 175lbs. I added one set for 5x6. I'll shoot for 6x6 on the next session. Then I'll go to 180lbs. and add a fifth, and eventually a sixth set before trying 185lbs. again. Assuming that I complete those sets each will be a new PR. Because, I've done 5x6 at 175lbs. but I've never done 6x6 at 175lbs.

Hilarious!

Thanks. It was fun. It wasn't really supposed to be about basketball, but that was the fitness highlight of an otherwise sedentary weekend.

We get some big ones. And now that it's getting cold outside they are all trying to come indoors!
I used to run 30-35 miles per week. Now, I can't run more than 1.5 miles without walking! Funny. I'm rarely called on to run long slow distances in my day to day life. But, I am called on to hoist kids, move furniture, and lift heavy things on a regular basis. I guess I'm right where I need to be.
I'm not sure that training long distances is ideal for football endurance, but it can't hurt. I'd think that some kind of HIIT protocol would be better, with the goal being to decrease time while covering a certain distance, or going for increased distance over a certain time period. But, I'm sure you know all of this already.
I measure PRs like you. I saw PRs every workout for 7 months during my bulk last year. Then in my cut they happened much less. Now I am maintaining and hitting them again so long as I stay healthy. I think that when you start a new program (even if you are not a newbie) that it is common to hit PRs for awhile until all the adaptations happen.

PR for sets is new to me as there's no way how I can record this directly. But I do notice if something is PR for weight or reps. I've got neat little charts with weight on X-axis & reps on the Y-axis and check against that chart when I figure it could have been a PR.
Whichever way, it's always nice to say something is a PR.. I'd like to see though what type it is (set/rep/wt)
