Default So far lifting off to.....

I'm up and going strong...brought my virtual person over here from Flzine, and happy to be back from 2 months on the road. haven't been able to ride because of back injury, but feeling awesome after losing 22lbs (with Leigh's help re: FLTS and MR repair.) Having to start over again with MR repair because the 2 months on the road got ahead of me, even though I lost weight. I'm 2 1/2 years recovering from multiple long term metabolic illness. Feeling great with the help of thyroid and a bucket of supplements. Still have a some health concerns which are slowly diminishing. what a relief! Still have to monitor BP daily, and would like to lose another 33 lbs, though a couple of my friends, and my doc are giving me a bit of a hard time about that goal. I don't really understand why because that would put me at a BMI of 21...normal (though I would secretly..hehe, like to be ripped at 120...we'll see... BMI of 20 is normal too) I guess they're just looking out for me.....can't be upset about that! I think it's important to have big goals and bigger dreams!

Anyway, just currently trying to stitch my back together, recover completely from pnuemonia, get off the steroid inhalers, and get active and fit again. Back to walking and stretching, and working the horses and playing with dogs, along with all the other stuff. Still too painful to ride just yet, but the horses need work on the ground for quite a while anyway, so it's a good time to stay out of the tack. Broken arm is really on the mend and tendonitis is more mild. Unfortunate as it is, I'm still a flailing torso, but charged, happy and ready to go!

daily metrics so far

weight 163.5
BP: 117/78 (nice!)
temp: norm
sleep: 7.5 (really good sleep last night; feel rested today)
fatigue: 2

sonics: Boss Hog's "walkin"

Default yet another

weight 163
BP: 119/74 am 135/91 right now
pulse: 66
temp: norm
sleep: 7 hours
fatigue: 3
stress: 8

Got an early start to a long busy day. Have some extra stress on the page for today--will try to take hold of it and make it a friend--ugh

wondering if it is really worthwhile to monitor so closely my "conditions." I'm doing what I can-( baby aspirin, changed my diet, very active, more than enough "expert advice" and patient care) maybe this is just an exercise in extreme vanity? let's face it...I have a lousy genetic heritage. Those are the facts, and after a few years I've come through the darkest hours (I hope), so maybe it's time to do less logging and more living. maybe.

maybe not.

a thought Leigh has talked about in her podcast...about the destructiveness of turning a formerly unacceptable/unhealthy weight number into an acceptable one, has just crossed my mind. .So, no, I'm not ready to just settle in where I'm at. Did that with too many disasterous results. I'm still aiming for that ripped look at 120-125 (as ripped as a few weeks shy of 44 yof can look without losing track of the rest of her already overwhelming life)

Howdy!!!

I've been missing everyone from LP's flzine and was gone for most of the spring and summer. Now I'm home for a bit, and feel happy to check in! How's everyone doin'?

weight 161.5 (new low for me in a really long time---at least 5 years or so---had been staying at 163 for last 6 weeks or so, but not really working my program so at least the weight didin't climb.)

BP 127/84 this is a relief because it's been REALLY high. I was a bit scared there for a bit--but I've added and cut back and cut out some more things in my diet. I think it's been working!

sleep :10 hours, and it felt great! The back is still messed up, so I wake up more often, but eh, whatever.

stress is 9 of 10 right now, but it can't be helped. Just have to move through it.

fatigue: 2--feel pretty good!; finishing up early today and getting ready to hike up the hills when I'm done here.

pulse: 66. not too bad for not being able to do any cardio training.

I've been making some progress figuring out how to work with my back injury...(herniated disk, L4-L5 compression) It's true necessity is the mother of invention. even though I HATE crunches, I'm actually starting to see some results from the ab work!!! whahooooooo. The hill climbing has been great for my glutes, and really does make a difference in my pain management. The dogs of course, just love all the trail work we get to do. As long as I keep all the supplements going, take the cal-mag powder, do the ab work and stretching, climbing up those hills is actully becoming a pleasure. I've even discovered some new ones right outside my door! Who knew?

Also--got back in the tack with my horses this week. Can't really do all that much "training" or "conditioning" on them, but it's been really nice to just climb up and enjoy the ride. That says a lot too, because I went from not being able to ride at all, to already riding 3 days this week. I think the secret's in the ab work!!!

Anway, just thought I'd check in..
sonics: anything at all by the crystal method

I'd LOVE to break the 159 mark by the end of next week!

O dear..Look like sleep has failed me for some odd reason. I'm wondering if it could because I had a HUGE (for me) hike yesterday, and a mild dinner/though carb heavy. It could also be that I've given up just about every vice-like behavior...caffeine, alcohol, snacks, cream, sugar (though not entirely --just in the coffee form). Long day ahead....

Hi, Meg!
Just caught up on your log. 20 pounds wahoooo! I've lost 3 in the same time, actually lost "0" now coming back from my refeed. I have some issues that stop me from losing weight, but cheating/non-compliance is NOT one of them. Trying to figure out what's going on, doctor, carb-cycling etc.

Put an avatar up! Tell us of your travels! You had pneumonia AND a broken arm and back-ache, Babe! take good care of yourself!

Thanks, Etana, I'm sure working on it!

weight: 162
BP: 119/65 am (lower thank goodness. now I just need it consistently lower throughout the day)
pulse: 63
sleep: restless, but got 8 hours nonetheless.

Overall, I'm definitely feeling better each day. Gving up the extra bonus chemicals seems to have led to a mild reduction in my BP. My energy and spirits have picked up considerably. No need for the extra calories anyway. I REALLY want to get the rest of the weight off (a minimum of 20, but I'd like to shed a full 35 more which would bring the overall total to 65. Right now I'm at 28, so not quite 50%. Whahoooooo!)

I remember you from FLZine's forums, and really think it's cool that you're an equestrian. I'll be following you here!

Thanks Joyce!

I've been noticing my dietary habits have changed quite a bit in the last couple years, as have my energy levels directly related therein. I must admit though, actual cooking has been limited because by the time I get everything weighed out, I'm really only interested in eating things in their most basic form, ie steamed or raw veggies and fruit with a little vinegar or yogurt dressing, plain whole grain bread or granola, broiled proteins with little seasoning or sauces, and fats in the form of nuts and avacado--light on cheese (my ABSOLUTE favorite food beside oatmeal raisin cookies) I know the food doesn't have to be boring, but it's odd how my taste buds have changed too. When I stopped eating eggs (allergic) it seemed I felt much better by having regular meal type foods in the morning, and became the very person I thought so odd just a short time ago. Payback for all that criticism I guess!

list of changes

1. Got on thyroid--HALLELEUIA!
2. For the most part got off daily allergy medicine, steroids, and bronchodialators
3. Cut down on anti inflammatories except in acute situations
4. Added a substantial amount more protein---at every meal--this really made a difference
5. Added calcium/mag supplements 2xs daily (this eliminated leg cramping and twitches at night all together
6. Got on daily fish oil and realized the importance of EFAs! Another HALLELEUIA! FAR less overall bodyaches as a result.
7. Got on supplements for those things I tested severely deficient in. Vit D3, Chromium, B6, and a balanced amino acid mix. This has also made a substantial difference in my energy levels and attitude.
8. Started eating breakfast regularly.
9. The heavy late night carb cravings have dimished substantially, and for the most part I've stopped eating late at night.
10. Noticed normal portion sizes actually filled me up. Began eating less volume. In other words, hormones must have started functioning better!
11. Started to enjoy walking as an activity, not as a transportation device
12. All but eliminated wine and spirits, and have recently eliminated alcohol altogether. This has already affected my blood pressure positively, though I really miss beer!
13. Stopped drinking my 2 daily 20oz triple vanilla lattes, exchanged them for 1 regular coffee at home with cream and sugar...eliminated the cream and sugar, and now down to drinking 1 8 oz cup of black decaf. WOW!! I NEVER in a million years thought I could change that!!!
14. Eating far less red meat, more fish, and added sardines. Love those little fish! Great quick protein!
15. Sadly eliminated peanut butter, but exchanged it for almond butter which I just adore. This also made a big difference in lessening my allergic symptoms.
16. started weighing my food, and have developed a good balanced pre-measured food library that makes it easy to figure out what proportions and calories I need to take in to stay on track.
17. Discovered Leigh's FLTS, and did the MRD with GREAT success.
18. Learned my metabolism is functioning much better.
19. Started waking up refreshed, and able to get out of bed.
20. Have been able to eliminate the need for a nap during the day, and going to bed at 7:00 pm. This is incredible in itself.
21. Began decluttering my house.
22. began media ban..stopped listening to the news, talk radio, reading the papers, or having Google News be my home page.
23. Started to enjoy the quiet again....stopped having the radio and tv on all the time.
24. Took those long overdue books back to the University, and got a new card to the city library, which I have been enjoying.
25. Started measuring my food...not all the time, but enough of the time to make a difference. As a result of this, for the first time ever in my whole life, I worried about how I could possibly eat all the calories I was supposed to.
26. Lost 28 lbs
27. Joined some new social groups, both virtual and on the internet.
28. Began confronting some demons......
29. Got a temporay housemate that I enjoy.
30. Stopped trying to keep up with the Equestrian Jones crowd
31. Finally started dating again.

Who knew?

Howdy,

Had a bit of a restless night...early morning stress of back trouble. Ugh. frustrating. Seems so high maintenence, but I know it could be worse, so I better just suck it up, and move along.

weight :162 still---
that's the only stat ll I feel like writing about right now.

Went on a really long hike yesterday; (long for me anyway) from my house, on ridgeline, to foxhollow, then started up spencer's butte, but knew I wouldn't be able to manage going all the way to the top, and then home again. Whole thing seems doable though in about 5 hours or less--not ready for that yet...too painful and hard on the back and knees on the downhill way home. I'll have to build up.

Been really anxious and stressed this morning. I just can't seem to finish everything up, which then creates more stress. Such a bitter cycle. will just try to stay here. here's pretty good.

Will be interested to see if weight moves south this week or not. Staying within plan at about 1300-1400 kcals right now, and doing my best to eat a ton of veggies. All that bulk really keeps the hungries away. Still very interested to see what happens when I can afford gfw device.

Beautiful day today...need to get out, and maybe call some friends later. Too much time alone doesn't work well for me in the long run. A shared laugh or two makes all the difference!

Hi martista or meg! (which do you prefer)? Thought I'd pop over and subscribe. I used to ride horses long long ago, but never had one of my own. Lots of dogs, though (and cats and sheep and two chickens).

Glad to hear the ab work is helping your back. I think other core strengthening exercises will help too, like planks, supermen, etc. A couple of years ago I had months of bad lower back spasms. I couldn't even put my portable CD player belt on without triggering spasms, and forget about wearing a backpack. I also have a disk injury somewhere in the middle of the spine from a boating incident 20 yrs ago. The core work I've been doing has alleviated all of my problems 99.9%. So keep at it!!! P.S. veggies are great, aren't they?

Hey Moondust,

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to give those others a try. The fact you can relate so well, and have recovered really gives me hope. Today was a pretty painful day, but I realize that I missed being able to hike for two days in a row, so I think that's what did it. Veggies rock!!!

I have some really great (small) news! I stumbled across two pains of old jeans that I found while decluttering. They are the smallest size I've ever worn, and I could confortably fit into them! I haven't worn them in 10 years!!! I'm really thrilled. I also have some really fabulous (BIG) news. The project I developed and have been working so hard on, research in horses and performance, came back with groundbreaking results!!!! I'm so so happy and grateful.. None of it would have happened, had I not found Leigh's site, signed up for the blog and really started learning about the science of fitness, fatloss, and real nutrition from all of you folks!!! I don't think I've ever felt this good in my life! I may be older now, but my energy feels really strong, and I'm losing weight in the healthiest way ever. I've gone down 3 sizes! This really is my ressurection year for sure!! Thanks everyone!!! meg
