Default Kim's Weight Loss Journal

I'm not really sure how to start a journal, so I guess I'll start with a little about me. My name is Kim, and I'm a 21-year-old female who is a rising college senior. I am 5'5 and have been as low as 130 (a healthy weight I have no seen since I was 16) to a high weight of 185 that I saw yesterday on the scale.

I have been plagued with running injuries over the past year, bursitis in both hips, therefore I have not run very much. As a result, I have gained a lot of weight. Although not all of the weight that I have gained because I am a boredom eater.

I think that one of the biggest reasons for my stupid injuries is my weight. It is a lot to carry on my frame. When I have been able to run, my pace is two minutes slower than it was when I was 145 pounds, and I have never been even close to fast. In an ideal world, I would get my weight down into the 150s before I start running again, but I'm not sure I can wait that long.

I need to lose weight. Simple as that. I want to keep track of food and exercise in here because since I haven't been running much, they've both suffered. As far as food goes, I am not someone who craves fruits and veggies. I love sugar, especially chocolate. As of this point in time, I have no desire to eat clean. I would like to work on a balance/moderation type of thing.

The reason that I have decided to have a journal here is because of the amazing support that people get. So of course, support is always welcome.

Welcome aboard. I'm also a newbie to JP, and look forward to tracking your progress.

Any ideas as to what program you are going to do? Instead of logging your food in here I instead I would recommend fitday or something of that ilk. It's a pain in the ass but it works. I see a lot of recommendations for the go fit wear but it looks like you have to be willing to put out a little cash. You could probably get a good start just by ruthlessly tracking your food intake.

Default Hi

Hi,

Welcome --- I am new here also.

My family is supportive, but are not really into health. They are always trying to get me to watch the Glutton channel --- oh, I mean the Travel Channel and tell me that is how most American's eat. And that by comparison they eat healthy and I am extreme. Thus it really helps me to come here and see that I am not alone in my desire to live healthy.

BTW, I track my food at livestrong.com. I find it the easiest place to track.

Good luck,

Heya Kim! Welcome to logging. Yeah, you are right that you shouldn't really be running at that high of weight. I too gave myself some injuries doing that too. Perhaps you will find that dieting and some walking can take you to a nice healthy weight? Looking forward to seeing how it goes...

Hi Kim,

Don't worry, I never used to crave fruits and veggies either. I used to not even like home cooked meals! It was fast food, restaurants, frozen comfort foods and pizza for me. I changed all that slowly and you can too if you really want to.

I do suggest logging food here, because we can give you suggestions about how to make changes and substitutions a little at a time. I also suggest a program like fitday or something so you can see the difference each little change makes.

I've been struggling with each pound because I like the sweet stuff too as well as having a baking addiction! I was telling myself I could bake and not eat it for a while but I'm coming around to the idea of a moratorium on that!

Anyway, wecome!

It's always easier when the environment around you is supportive. Comparing yourself to TV is always a bad idea. I hadn't heard about tracking food at Livestrong. I'll have to go poking around.
