Weird.....must be an open tag or something from a cut and paste that's causing it. I'll have Roland come in and take a look.
Does anyone know which post started it? It's effecting the whole page, but it could have been anywhere. It's likely to have happened when something go pasted in from somewhere else.
Pretty sure it's something in the chart in #237. I'm on a new page now and the fonts are fine. If no one quotes it, it'll go away, I think. You just have to wait for the new page to start.
I finally have a few minutes to post here, hehehehe. Roland, I've pm'd you already but go ahead and delete the post/spreadsheet/whatever I posted last night. That is the cause of the sudden page wonkiness.
Work is swimming along, but I've decided it would be very nice to have a steady IV drip of caffeine throughout the day so that I could remain mentally sharp. I can't wait to get home and drink some of the iced coffee that I brewed last night - it'll give me that much-needed boost for my evening run.
Naive - I totally avoid most fat for my pre-run eats, though I've been known to cave into eating a tiny amount of peanut butter. 'Cuz pb makes life a lot better. If I have something like a small muffin, or a slice of toast, I'm fine. I think the pukiness of late stems more from the humidity. August is just a very damp and soggy month in the south.
Exercise
-5 minute walk
-3.92 mile run, 38:11
-Stretching
Very awesome run tonight! Sometimes I don't know how a run will come together, and tonight, I actually had to hold myself back in pace so that I can reserve some energy for tomorrow's speed workout. I couldn't resist throwing in a one-minute sprint at the end, though.
Eats Analysis
Cals:1,849 kcal
Carbs: 226 g
Fat: 61 g
Protein: 123 g
Carb intake the past few days has been fairly high, but my body so far isn't complaining. I'll probably taper off in this area on Thursday and Friday, then ramp it up again on Saturday in preparation for Sunday's long run.
This dispatch was temporarily delayed because I had to snuggle with my cat first, a very important thing.
Exercise Speed workout with the coach tonight. 1 set =
2 laps x 300m, 1 x 300m, 1 x 300m, 2 x 300m, all @ 1-mile race pace
Total of 4 sets completed, followed by: Plyo (Butt kicks; run w/knees up; bounding; skipping; one-legged hops; squat jumps; walking lunges)
Core circuit: 4 supermans; 4 V-ups; some P90X move where you put one leg in the air, the other on the ground, and you tap all the way up to the toes - 12 on each leg; 12 V-ups
Felt like toast by the pushups. This was a demanding workout. I didn't time myself on all of the sets, but I know that on some of the 1 lap runs I was doing btw. 1:15-1:20, and on one of the 2 lappers I timed it at 2:40. My last 2 lap run was timed at 3:04. I'd already poured all of my energy into the first 3 sets, and by this one, I had to hold back so that I could complete the plyo circuit with juice, which is typically the most grueling part of the session for me.
That decision paid off in dividends, because when we got to that, I was awesome. I was bounding quite high, and was among the first runners to finish the butt-kicks and running w/the knees to the waist. The best part was that my squat jumps were powerful this evening!! I usually suck at these, but tonight, they rocked. I was also among the first to successfully complete a set.
Best compliment I heard tonight: one of the running club vets (and a speedy one at that) high-fived me for passing him twice on some of the 2 lappers. He also said I looked really strong out there, and that my running form is great. I sure felt it! My core and back as of late have been cooperative, and my stride has opened up because I passed quite a number of folks who had started in front of me.
Eats Analysis
Since I ate a personal pan pizza post-workout from a local pizzeria, I have no real clue about calories. Sparkpeople estimated my intake today at 1,772 kcals. I personally think it's higher, more like 1,850-1,900 (my other meals weren't as calorific), based on the pan pizza. Protein and carb levels are definitely good, though. My previous meals were high in both.
Fat intake is most likely higher than alloted for the day (my max is 67g), but it's no big deal.
Going back to the pizza, the place claimed they do the "best New York-style" pizza in Palm Beach County. No such luck here - even though it was quite tasty, it still didn't have that ultra-crunchy, thin crust that I love. Better luck next time!

Guess I still have Anne's log on my mind. I initially read "snuggle" as "struggle."
Excellent workout! Congrats on passing the run club vet twice!

I always think with pizza that what I love the most is the toppings. Like you, I like an ultra-thin crunchy crust, and you don't often get it. I remember a couple of times turning down pizza (even when not trying to lose weight) as I really don't like the thick crust pizza that tends to be standard fare.
There use to be this health food pizza place near by. I loved it. It had a low fat thin crust -- about as thick as a flour tortilla. They had a lot of fresh veggie toppings. I would get one with chicken, spinach (fresh not canned), yellow pepper, and tomatoes. Of course living in Texas, the home of give me something big with lots of grease, it didn't stay in business. I miss it because I could splurge without feeling like I'd blown it.

Nice work on the running! And eats..I'm always jealous of the calories you get to eat. I just keep telling myself that my time will come....when I get to do regular run workouts!
A nice run: not too easy, but not a difficult one either. A bunch of cross-country kids from the western edge of Palm Beach County have also begun running with us on Thursday evenings, so that injects a lot of speed into the proceedings. I actually prefer this crew to the teens who show up at my Wednesday night sessions. They're zippy, but a lot less snotty about it. I forgot to share this anecdote a few weeks ago, but one of the runners (a mom at that) at the Wed. nite sessions said she'd like to shove one of the cross-country kids to the ground (the annoying 13-yr-old I referenced to very fleetingly in Wendy's log). Heh.
Too tired to input my food for the day. I still have some home stuff to take care of, and I'm pretty sure that my calories will be around the 1,900 zone. I ate my usual food, and dinner was pretty "clean" (london broil and homemade potato salad, no mayo).
Tomorrow's workout is definitely going to be centered all in the weight room. I've ran three consecutive days, and I so do not want to run again tomorrow, or look at any cardio equipment!

Thanks, and I've struggled with my cat before, so you're not that far off in some respects.

Me either. Thin and crunchy is where it's at when it comes to pizza, though I am kind of partial to New England-style pies. I'm also beginning to think that there may be truth to the claim that New York pizzas are excellent because of the water. I never believed it until I started eating NY-style pies in other locales, and though the best ones had that thin crust, it didn't really have the crunch and texture I enjoy.

Thanks. It's always great hearing compliments like that, and from those who've been running for a long time.

The ear situation hasn't changed, which in a way is good, but it's still irritating. There was also some mix up on the referral for my MRI, so I'll go to my primary care physician next week to obtain the referral, and get it done.
That tortilla pizza sounds like the pizzas I make when I'm on the virtuous, clean-eats kick. They're quite yummy, though! And yeah, TX is the land of super-greasy food. I remember my 6 months in Killeen was a blur of BBQ and kolaches, LOL.

That's the trade-off of endurance training: you have to put in the time and effort, but you get to eat more, yay! I'm enjoying this calories kick for the time being. 'Cuz I've been at that dieting end, and while I can do it, it ain't easy.

Yup, I have to admit I've been envious of your higher cals. My time too will come. Eventually. By the holidays, I hope.
Enjoy your weights-centered workout, and keep us updated on the MRI!

Quick update - never have I been so anxious about mail. I've been tracking status updates on the delivery of my Garmin Forerunner since yesterday. I probably won't get it til next Tuesday, but I'm still checking (and re-checking) to make sure... Gah!

I'm the same way
!! I am sure you'll love it too, when you get it!
Yep, nothing like pizza in NYC, that's a fact!! Even my husband from LA agrees. It's fun to hear how strong you are feeling with your running. Strengthening the core is the key to so many good things. It completely cured my debilitating back issues a couple of years ago.

Yesterday's workout was "meh". I actually wound up not going to the gym - I got sidetracked, and before I knew it, it was 7 PM, and I had no motivation to go there. Instead, I did my kettlebell routine, which consisted of 3x10 sets/reps of (except where noted):
-Swings - 12 kg KB
*(15 reps each set) -Squats - 12 kg
-Jerks - 8 kg
*(1 set. The last 2, I switched to military presses because my forearms were too sore, and the rest of my body was just not in the mood to take KB jerks)
-Single leg deadlift - 8 kg
-Plank - 1 @ 90 secs. first 2 sets; last set=120 secs.(!)
-Stability ball pass
-----
Didn't feel as great as I did with my other workouts during the week, but I suspected that would be the case. After all, it was Friday and I'd already put in a good deal of work on the previous days.
No nutrition stats posted because I'm too unmotivated to go through that right now. My game plan for today is to eat a nice spaghetti dinner in preparation for tomorrow's 8-mile run, but no beer as I initially wanted to. I drank a bottle of Leffe Blond Ale last night to start getting me pumped for Sunday, but it backfired. Alcohol does a weird number on my sleep patterns sometimes, and last night's rest was disjointed as result. So today I'm yawning and wanting to reach for my coffee pot. Not good.
This morning & afternoon I've been looking at bellydance clips on YouTube because a bellydance performer friend of mine forwarded me this last night, a roundup of Egyptian bellydancers. They look so glamorous, and I gather the clips are from the 50s and 60s.
I finished up my bellydance class series a few weeks ago, and I really want to start a new round of them again. But I'll have to check around which ones will best work w/my schedule.
Naive - Still waiting on my Garmin Forerunner delivery!!! Agh!
Moondust - The core is everything, I'm convinced, when it comes to just feeling good all-over. And, have you been to Denino's Pizzeria in Staten Island? I like 'em, and dh and his family swear that they dish up the best in that borough. My first order of business, next time I'm in the city, is to get a good slice of pizz-er, hahahaha!

I watched the clip--not that I'm at the point where I could pull off such a costume, but I may look up some classes myself. A friend of mine from college took a class through her local rec center/YMCA/one of those places a couple of years ago and liked it. She hasn't kept it up, though.
There is my issue of lack of coordination, but maybe I can pretend DDR has been of some help in that regard.

I finally got up early on a Sunday to go running at 6 AM, and feel so great about it. I've never been a morning person (meaning, I'll get up early, but I'll also kvetch about it a lot), so this is a huge accomplishment of sorts whenever I get this done.
The run itself was very pleasant. Getting up early also means beating the heat/humidity combo, after all. Also, my pace was similar to other 2 runners, so we talked about how our fellow club members are drifting into triathlons and how we'll never be cut out for that kind of madness, and just shooting the breeze. The only hiccup along the path was going past a block of horse stables. Man, even at 7 AM the stench coming from there is strong, whew!
It was great seeing a young mom and her 1 year old girl out there with us, but with her father also in tow. Her husband's a firefighter on 24-hr duty, so the woman had to get her dad to babysit. But instead of just staying at home, he decided to come out with her for support, and to get his own workout done. He pushed his granddaughter in the stroller alongside his jogging daughter.
Got irked at the end when we all reconvened at the starting point, and one of the runners inferred I hadn't put in that much effort into the run. I replied that I got my planned mileage out of the way, and that was my main goal. My Sundays are for distance, not speed. Shit, not every workout has to be a killer.
Oh, and before I forget, I finally got my Forerunner (ahead of schedule on top of that) yesterday, so I "christened" it this morning! Woot! I only used the basic features (pace, time, mileage), but I'm tinkering with it further later on to can map the route I did this morning. I'm so looking forward to getting the most out of my Forerunner.
Amanda - Oh, the bellydance classes are just so much fun. I'm a fellow uncoordinated klutz, and I managed to get some of the moves down, eventually, LOL. I love it because not only did I get greater body awareness, but I started to learn about the variations among the Turkish, Lebanese and Egyptian styles, and you get some cultural anecdotes interspersed along the way.
And one of the great things I discovered about bellydance is that since it originated as a pre-natal dance, it also prepares an expecting mother for childbirth. I know two women who took bellydance lessons while pregnant, and their deliveries were smooth, less than 5 hours for each (and one of them had a big baby, almost 9 lbs.). Their recovery times from the deliveries also went by quicker, or at least that's how they felt.
Awesome about the Forerunner. Isn't technology amazing? I have to admit, I am thankful to be born in this 'day and age', because I love the convenience of all the neato things we can use.
And air condition. Air condition is crucial.
It is so nice that you went through with the run. It really sets your weekend up for success when you get started on stuff like that early.
I am not a runner, but it does interest me that you do lifting and running. I sorta thought those two sports didn't correlate that well. When my best friend was running marathons, it seems like she had to cut way back on her lifting.
I could be wrong though.

Exercise
One of the cruddiest strength workouts yet to report this evening. I've been feeling unfocused since this morning, and it really showed. There's been a good deal of job weirdness lately (not personally with me, but affecting everyone in the office), and I was thinking about dh's birthday today. Also forgot to take my workout plan w/me, plus once I got into the gym, I just didn't want to do anything. It didn't help it was more crowded than usual today, so my concentration slipped even further. I made this workout up on the fly, and it shows.
I didn't feel like doing lower-body work, though I caved into the split squats. Deadlifts were a no-go, either. There wasn't any good excuse for ditching that, but, whatever. Que sera, sera.
My lack of concentration continued as I walked into the gym's parking lot... and for a minute, bonked out as to where I'd parked. My goodness, I told myself then and there to snap out of it!!!
The nutrition front is OK today, however. It'll probably be protein-packed and not as carb-o-rific as the past 2 days; I'm tucking into some london broil in a few minutes, and I had a nice chocolate shake post-workout.
Bytsi - It makes such a huge difference running with people who are somewhat interesting, LOL. Keeping up that pace yesterday seemed like a breeze partially because of that. Even though we were talking, it was a nice conversation, and I wasn't alone.

You're not that far off. A lot of runners I know aren't into weights, and strength training is something that they have to be constantly reminded to do. My running coach even harps on us at our sessions to lift weights, or do a bodyweight workout at least twice a week as part of training. She's mentioned that "I know most of you just want to run, but you really need to work on strength, too...", so this is fairly common. I'm not saying all runners are like that, but a lot of us are.
But the other thing that occurs, esp. when prepping for a marathon, is that your mileage has to keep going up as part of your training... and that also poses a challenge as to getting in other workouts. A lot of folks aren't as motivated to step into the weight room when they have to run 30-50 miles/week as part of marathon training. Your endurance is being placed onto that area, and after a while, something eventually gives. That's not a good excuse to ditch strength workouts entirely, as they're absolutely essential to preventing injury and burnout. But you do have to shift priorities, and because the running in this instance takes precedence, you begin looking at the strength stuff as complementary work to support the marathon goal, not the "main course."
Tracey - I got the 305, which suited my needs perfectly. The 405 is prettier-looking, but I've heard from a few folks (incl. Naive, I think, here) that they believe the 305 is better. And not only does it track your running, but your biking, too. So if you're a progress-tracking or measurement junkie, it'll be a good tool in your duathlon training.

Thanks for the info - The 305 is the one I was leaning towards anyway. I'm heading over to Amazon now to purchase!!
Joyce, i'd totally want to go to a reallly good pizza place with you & Anne!
With all that talking about pizza lately, a really good thin crust pizza has been on my mind for quite a while!
Also, that Garmin geek thingy got me drooling totally. I've bought a car navigation system in the end as it appears you can't really have something that's good at both: at most it will be mediocre for 1 purpose. The one in a car must be loud (a voice) & big (to read from a distance), while the one you want to wear must me small & be able to go without recharging 4ever!
All of my (former) cycling buddies use a Garmin and preferably one that gives the amt of meters climbed or position. My best buddy had one for doing a trip in Norway and when his bike battery died , he still knew where he was thanks to the Garmin giving back info on the height (in metres).
