I love all those pictures! I've never had cats that wash each other, they barely like each other. My sisters kittens are brother and sister and they're friendly to each other, I get jealous.

That picture with your son and Veda is adorable - you can see him thinking, soft kitty, and she looks so happy.

And Puss n Boots really were twins, weren't they? So alike with their markings.

My older cat sounds a bit like Veda (but Veda looks like she was a bit friendlier). Biscuit has a film covering one eye so she looks like she's not all there, although her good eye is a beautiful clear green. She also moves very slowly. Sometimes it's like she's playing musical statues with some invisible friends, she just stops mid-walk!

Yeah, get some workouts up. We're beginning to forget how super-strong you are!

Default Stage 3, Workout 3B

9/8/09

Seemed a long time since the last workout B; taking a week off was not a good idea, even though it wasn't really voluntary.

RDL/Bent Row
3 x 6 x 80

80 is not enough for the RDL part of this, but it's hard for the row. By the last set I was having to give a little shrug help to get the bar going for the row.

Partial 1-leg Squat
2 x 6 x 22.5's
1 x 6 x 25's

I like these.

Wide Grip Lat Pulldown
3 x 6 x 95

I wanted to up the weight on these, since I've done two workouts at the same weight, but I didn't, because I realized I'm not always getting the bar all the way to my chest. So I worked on that, and the third set I didn't manage to get it there for most of the reps. A little below the chin, maybe, but not to the chest.

Back Extension
3 x 8 x 35 plate

YTWL
3 x 6 x 8's

Still hard. Still have a slight left shoulder problem, but it is improving. Still by the L's I am dying!

Ball Crunch
3 x 10 x 8 lb. medicine ball held in lever position

Hip Flexion: Pike Jackknives
3 x 10

Really only managed 9.5 reps on these; I cheated the tenth, sort of fell off the ball before my legs were fully extended. I was very tired. It occurred to me during these that in stage 1 I was doing 15 of them, and 10 was about all I could handle today!

Lateral Flexion
3 x 10

I did my own side crunches on the floor, sort of like the Hanna flexion in the book, but I lift both legs instead of just one.

Prone Cobra
3 x 90 sec.

HIIT
Sprint intervals on treadmill, 6.5, 7.0, 8.0, 8.5, 8.5

I have been doing these with a 2 minute recovery, 1 minute hard, and today while doing it I looked at the bottom of the log sheet I use and it says 2 minute work, 1 minute recovery. I wondered if that's a misprint, or if I've been doing the intervals wrong all this time. I'll have to check the book again.

I can tell I have not been doing cardio for a while; totally out of practice. Back in the early summer when I was doing a lot of it, it was getting easy, and today it was really hard. I kept thinking, I used to do the sprints at 9.0 and once I did one at 10mph, and today I was dying at 8.5!

Can also tell that my diet has been hell for the last week. Ever since my son's birthday when we had cake and ice cream in the house. I have been eating junk every day since then. When the cake ran out, I bought another one, and then brownies, and cookies. . . . .Those carbs are not my friend! I try to tell myself that I'm doing a "bulk" and these are "carb loads," but I know I'm fooling myself. The waist is puffing up again, and the weight is creeping up as well. It's a combination of the bad food and the no cardio. I'll have to buckle down and quit the crap food here soon. . . . . as soon as those Oreos are gone. . . . .

Yay, a workout! As for the intervals, I think you've been doing them right. 1 minute hard, 2 minutes recovery is what my book shows for Stage 3.

Yes, my avi is my grey tuxedo, Zeus. My other cat is a dilute calico, but she had a former life as a stray and is kinda funny looking as a result.

Your workout looks really good. I'm doing stage 5, which is the same workouts as in 3. The weights you're using in your last workout are nearly identical to the ones I used in my last workout. What I'm trying to say is, you're gonna kick my butt before long!!! *fit of jealosy*

You know, until you really start monitoring the correlation between food and energy/health levels, it is hard to get a grasp of 'food as fuel'.

It is amazing how once you have been eating cleaner and healthier, if you fall off the wagon for a few days, your body lets you know that things are different. It makes me realize how all those times that I have been in permanent 'junk food' cycle, how depressed I was letting my system get.

I hear ya! They have them right on the endcap at my grocery store, so even though I never shop the cookie aisle...there they are EVERY time I walk by that endcap! I'm so tempted to get some and save them for the holidays so I can make the oreo truffles with the strawberry AND the regular. Think they will still be fresh at Christmas if I don't open them? I guess a better question would be.....can they make it in my house until Christmas WITHOUT being opened! Hey, don't they come out with another limited edition flavor around the holidays? Anyone know what it is? I could made a bunch of DIFFERENT oreo truffles. That would be such a hit!

Oreos is one thing I have never liked. The filling reminds me of Crisco mixed with sugar. Occasionally I would scrape off the filling and eat the outside part, but not recently. I guess growing up in a household where cakes and cookies were made from scratch had some advantages when it comes to resisting modern baked items.

No, no, no, no, no; I grew up in a house where my mom baked everything from scratch. Bread, pies, cakes, cookies. . . .and I still love storebought. You just can't make Oreos from scratch!

And what's up with strawberry Oreos????? Never heard of them or seen them! Are they new this year? Just recently? Where do I get them? Where where? [frantic scrambling to the car to start searching]

Surely I'm not the only one who sees the irony in your finding out strawberry Oreos on a fitness forum?

Oh, yes! Strawberry, regular, and mint! I think they sell the mint all year long now. Then you could dip some in milk chocolate, some in dark chocolate, and some in white chocolate! How much longer is it till Christmas, anyway? They are already putting up stuff at Costco for it!

Yes, yes!! Won't they be great! I'll be a superhero for these! Oh, and we can't use these, but have you have the Christmas oreos where the entire thing is dipped in white chocolate? Yum.

Well, I guess I'm going to have to get the strawberry ones and hide them or freeze them (yes, that's it!) until the holidays. Maybe there will be Halloween ones?

I was generally the same way, though I think I ate them up till I was about 12 or so.

The white chocolate ones, when I ate Oreos, were the ones I liked best.

I think they have enough preservatives to keep until Christmas even without freezing.

Those ones dipped in white chocolate are the best! LOVE those; thanks a lot for reminding me they exist!

I think at Halloween they just do orange colored filling; don't think it's flavored.

Now after all this talk of Oreos, I have to admit I skipped my planned workout after work tonight! For such a dumb reason, too: I forgot my towel!!! I got there, went in, then realized I forgot it. I would have even bought one, but they didn't have any there for sale! And there's no way I can work out without a towel; I'm a huge sweater. Now I have to go after work tomorrow instead. On a Friday! Yuck!

Not being sarcastic: isn't that EXACTLY what oreo filling is made of? I'd always thought of it exactly that way. I loved 'em, but still...

They've got those blondies and those inside-out Oreos too. Or so I've heard.

What's interesting is that when I started binging on the carbs again, I was just always so fatigued! I mean, I could barely drag myself around all day. But I got Cassandra's Perfect Body Diet book a while back, and while I didn't do the diet, I did do her "carb tolerance test" which has you eat a high carb breakfast and then monitor your feelings for several hours afterwards. People who are intolerant were supposed to get really sluggish and fatigued. But I didn't. I passed that test with flying colors. And, I used to survive on sugar. Literally. I was a huge sweet fan, probably ate sugar and refined flour products as 75-80% of my diet. And I never remember it affecting me badly. It was only after I was eating clean for a while and then suddenly went back to that food that it bothered me. Weird.

Hey, I like dogs. . . . .just abstractly, that's all. Really, I think in the proper setting a dog would be great. Like when I lived on ten acres in the country when I had Zipper. That's ok. It's when there are so many in suburbia that you can't sleep for the barking, or walk in the park for the droppings, or pass a dog that doesn't jump on you. Too many years like that have soured me to dogs. But really, it's the dog owners, not the dogs.
