Her writing blog continues to have the regular Mon & Thu updates -- so she's out there somewhere

Hey Amanda, I know you're focusing on NaNoWriMo, but if you have time to surface for air, we'd like to see you here again.

Really? Am I the only one who went there? I blame the hormones.

Anyway. Speaking of hormones. I was really overweight as a teen-- at high school graduation I weighed ~215. I got my period at 12 and my cycle was like clockwork for about 10 years. Then, when I really started to lean out, it went wonky. Though for me, "leaning out" means weighing 175 and looking like a brick sh*thouse. For the last 10 years or so, my cycle has been all over the place, if it even existed at all. I'd go for months with nothing, which confounded my docs because I still never got below 21% bf. Long story short-- 3 kinds of birth control later, we decided it was time to add to our family (the cat was getting lonely), and I was pregnant within a month. Weird, huh?

Hope you had fun at your reunion! It's this weekend, right? I've been hoping for a facebook update. I went to my 5th and had a blast.

Maybe for prebuscent gymnasts but I think it just delays the initial onset (like they don't get it until 16 or 17 or something). For example, my sister was overweight throughout her teen years and would go months at a time without a period. I on the other hand whether overweight or normal (would never call myself "underweight"), always was pretty regular, only I noticed in the last few years my cycle shortened (grrrr) by at least a week and coincidentally my weight has been fluctuating more. Don't know if there is any relation. Also I got mine early too, like the year after my growth spurt (only it wasn't an upward but more of an outward growth spurt, 60 pounds in a little over a year! So much for being underweight and scrawny). I think the adolescent weight gain probably has more of a relationship to onset so....but this is purely anecdotal.

Also, because fat stores estrogen, hormone levels fluctuate with bf% changes. In my case, my period got more regular after I lost 50#...

That was kind of my question--since fat stores estrogen, would being at a higher BF% as a teen make the body's fat-set-point in terms of estrogen *higher* than it would be otherwise. Based on Leigh's videos, I'm still at around 28% bf or so, which I would've thought would put me firmly in the "not too thin for periods" camp. For the most part, my periods seemed to be more regular when I weighed more, around 180. *Right now* it seems that when I hit 140, my cycle gets wonky. But that's only officially happened twice, which isn't quite enough to hang my hat by.

Anyway, Aunt Flo did stop by for another visit 2.5 months after her previous visit. So that's good. But I'm not sure if it was my change in diet (I've upped my fat consumption, but unfortunately sugar consumption has also gone up) or less stress or what. It's on my to-do list to set up a full physical since I haven't had one for 2.5 years, I think (my insurance, bizarrely, only covers them every 3 years until I turn 30, when it covers them every 2 years) so I'll get bloodwork done and check estrogen levels and all that fun stuff.

Anne and Joyce posting to my blog (thanks, ladies!) did get me thinking that I needed to pop in here and let everyone know I'm still breathing. I am focusing on NaNoWriMo--had a brief hiccup on the 3rd when I decided to change ideas and that got me behind, but I got in a good bit of writing yesterday (~5,900 words) so that got me caught up to my goal of 60k at the end of the month, or 2k words/day.

Re: training, honestly not much is going on there. I ordered Assess and Correct as it's also been on my to-do list to work on posture stuff and correct movement, since I think I have anterior pelvic tilt issues, and I know I have forward head ("turtle neck") issues as well. But I haven't watched it yet (in my defense, I only got it yesterday).

I also bought Leigh's new book, Body by Eats, but I haven't read that yet, either. And there I have less excuse, as I've had it hmm three weeks now. Nor have I really taken advantage of the Body by Eats forum while I have two months of free membership. I joined but haven't posted once.

And returning to the girly stuff...
I did buy "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" that Espi and others recommended and am almost done with that. I certainly don't need it now to get preggers and frankly I don't need it right now to avoid pregnancy either, but it's been very helpful in identifying what my cycle should be like, and I can definitely see how charting things can help me identify problems. I figure if I chart my cycle in conjunction with food tracking, it may help me figure out if I can continue to lean out but with perhaps a higher fat diet, and still maintain a normal cycle. But before that, I think I'll have my doc appointment, and honestly with the holiday season coming up and all the accompanying stress (and, I'll admit it, holiday goodies) I may just put further leaning-out plans on hold till after the new year.

Anyway, sorry for disappearing from JP for the moment. Honestly during the rest of November I'm likely to still be absent. Thanks for the support though, everyone, but in regards to health and with NaNoWriMo! I really do appreciate it.

ETA: Oh, Kate, yeah the reunion was fun! No, I never put any updates about it on Facebook--I'm horrible about taking pictures at that kind of thing. But I had much fun catching up with my roommate, in particular (who I stayed with). We walked around campus and complained about all the changes they made and just felt old looking at all the college kids. Got to catch up with some friends at our class dinner, though sadly my fellow English majors weren't really in attendance. But I did find out that a friend I knew in college is actually the sister of a guy who attends my church now, so that was pretty neat! Anyway, I enjoyed myself enough that I'll consider going back for my 10th.

I concur - it seems like these weeks are flying by, and I'm not even writing 2k/day!

I have the new book and have just *started* skimming it. Sheesh.

How many hours per day do you spend with all of the writing activities?
