Well, your dream totally topped mine from a few nights ago, where I dreamed I was being interviewed for a job by vampires. My job's functions were vague, but I presume I was to procure and maintain their blood supply, LOL.

The agave nectar ice cream - was it home made, or store bought? If it's the latter, I have to go find me some now.

I can safely say that there is only a remote chance I will every eat agave nectar ice cream.

Homemade, though I have heard of it being retailed.

Oh, you never know! I eat dinner with a group of friends every 2nd and 4th Tuesday. Last time it was my turn to provide dessert--the bread pudding and agave nectar ice cream were leftovers from that. The ice cream tasted like regular vanilla. No one suspected anything. Mwa ha ha ha ha!

The key word in that sentence is leftover. As in not eaten. Somebody knew something. They were just being polite. No ones leaves ice cream as left overs.

I have to agree with Deserve here. Leaving icecream as leftovers should be punishable.

Depends on how much you make. I made a two cherry (sweet/sour) yogurt sorbet on the weekend for guests. It also has a little cointreau and homemade jam in it. However, it makes around 14 servings, so I knew that four people weren't going to eat it all.

And whether your friends are Stickpeople from the planet Thinville. Runners/hikers/bikers be they all. And at any given time, at least one of them is off sugar for a month. Of course, sometimes I am too and so I won't eat the dessert even if I brought it. Part and parcel of living in CO, I guess.

But for the record, my baking prowess is much admired, particularly in my workplace.

Hai! Welcome! (A little late...)

I like you. And your dreams are scarily similar to mine. Only usually when I relate mine, my husband slips something into my food the next night.

Morning weigh-in: 150.2*
Sleep: 5 hours 59 min (but that doesn't include my extra two hours after I called in sick this morning)

Right, well, between my parenthetical and my footnote, it should be clear I'm taking a sick day today. Haven't actually puked or anything, but my stomach's not happy with me right now. Hopefully just minor food poisoning or something.

Celestialmom, thanks for dropping by! I do try to reciprocate on everyone's log who comes by, so I'll head over to your log at some point--just bear with me until I'm feeling a bit better.

Anyway, stats for Tuesday, June 9
Cals burned: 2479 (may be higher as I don't think the GoWear Fit is entirely accurate for elliptical)
Cals eaten: 1762 (may be higher as I had to eyeball food from dinner with friends), 155.7p/161c/56f
Even aside from eating around 150 cals over my planned deficit, my macros were off from the 40/35/25 goal. I'll have to remember that for the next Tuesday night dinner, I need to get the majority of my protein in during the day. Get a bunch of 20 and 30 somethings together and ask one to feed the rest and you usually end up with a low-protein casserole.
Deficit: 717

Activity
  • 1/2 hour Pilates DVD with coworker (had fun discussing disturbingness of V.C. Andrews' books and amazement at the parents who allowed their preadolescent children read them)
  • 15 minute walk at work
  • 50 on elliptical; 5 min warmup; 40 min at 70% MHR; 5 min cool down
  • Stretching and foam roll--IT bands were really tight. Much hissing between teeth. But I felt nice and loose after, which of course is the point.
I was scheduled to do program A2 of OPT today, but that's not happening. The disadvantage of the GWF to a former undereater is that now I can predict my burn today will be low--maybe around 1900 or so, and so there was that idea of "maybe I can push through it anyway."

Luckily I came to my senses. It's not like I'm feeling all that hungry right now anyway, so I'll probably still have a deficit if I care about it that much when I'm sick. (Emphasizing that to self so I don't do something stupid.) So I'll likely end up cutting out one of the cardio sessions for this week to keep all the resistance work in. Because I know that if I'm feeling up to it, I'm going to add on a little DDR anyway, so resistance training is really more important.

However, if I'm feeling up to it, I may head out for a slow walk in the afternoon, and/or make a trek to the health food store for some kefir. That usually helps my stomach when I'm having issues. Right now I'm sticking with ginger tea.

Now I'm gonna go see what I have saved on my TiVo.

* Okay so I know everything I lose this week I can expect to regain when out of the deficit, but it still made me feel better, to the point where it overrode the stomachache I woke up with and I thought I could go to work!

Then I made the mistake of eating breakfast.

Thanks, Jules. Turned out to be Season 6 of Gilmore Girls on DVD. Got a bit of "activity" from getting up to smack at the DVD player when it kept pausing. Then I remembered it started dying its slow, agonizing death a month or so ago and that I just let it alone because "I don't watch that many DVDs anyway." Forgot that that's one of my favorite activities while sick. Much more comfortable to have it on the TV rather than use my laptop on my lap. Which is what I did since getting up to smack at the DVD player became very irritating.

Sigh. If it weren't for the fact that I have a fairly extensive collection of DVDs, even if I don't watch them too regularly, I'd probably just save up for BluRay. I'll need to see if I can find a cheap DVD player.

Weigh-in: 148.4 (anticipate gaining some back tomorrow since I didn't get near my typical gallon and 16 oz--think I was more at 70oz)

Sleep: 2 hour early morning "nap" yesterday and 7 hours 4 min at night. Definitely still not at 100%--stomach started hurting again after breakfast--so I probably should've gotten more. I foresee a 9pm bedtime in my imminent future.

June 10 Stats
Cals burned: 1915
Cals consumed: 1233 (121.9p/104.8c/37.9f, or 40%/33%/28%)
Deficit: 682

"Activity"
  • Emerging from my cave (read: apartment with shades drawn) to drop off paperwork at apartment complex office for lease renewal and subsequent trip to mail center
  • Smacking DVD player in futile attempts to get it to fix itself
  • Emptying dishwasher
  • Think I rolled over a couple of times while sleeping
Well, this day did give me a preview of my expected burn for a period of four days during June 27-July 7. Headed to Texas for my grandmother's 98th birthday. She's still doing well--walks unassisted and plays Skip-Bo and 42 (a domino game) every week--but she's my last remaining grandparent so I like to see her pretty frequently.

Since my parents live local and are cheap and since I'm cheap, trips to see Mamaw are usually with them via car. 16 hours of sitting on my butt, spread over the course of two days. Though honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the burn is even less than the 1915. Can't roll over in my seat, after all.

True--I take my resistance bands on long car trips. I get way too antsy sitting still for such a long time, plus it embarasses my husband.

Maybe you should practice flexing then too.

*shifty eyes* True... I can do dumbbell curls in the back seat. I have that capability. I mean, my muscles would still be able to move and all... *cough*

Oh, I like the resistance bands idea! Lightweight, so no complaints about decreasing gas mileage (less likely to hear about this summer than last, but trust me, there would be complaints about dumbbells).

Right, then I'll jury-rig a mirror to the back of the seat so I can watch myself and kiss my guns.

I actually planned things out so that the majority of the vacation will take place during my rest week. Which seemed intelligent (re: comment about dumbbells and subsequent gas mileage complaints) until I realized that I could very well have vacation calories on rest week activity. I love my grandmother, but spending time with her involves sitting.

I'll at least get some daily walking in, I think, once we've reached Tyler. Other than that, hopefully I'll just be more aware of caloric intake vs. expenditure.

Just like being in the gym, brah.

Actually, bodyweight routines would help if you really wanted to get some kind of activity in, in case you get tired of preening in front of the mirror and kissing your guns. (Like that would ever get old. )

Yeah. I'll also have to set up a digicam so I can film myself. Hours of entertainment!

What type of body weight routines do you mean? When I type "car exercises" into Google, I get a lot of stuff about clenching my butt cheeks and thighs. Which, helpful as that might be, I wouldn't want to do for 16 hours.

You're going to Tyler for vacation? If that is Tyler Texas I hope it's for family. Otherwise....well Wow!

Yes, for family. Trust me, I wouldn't be out there otherwise. My grandmother is turning 98.

Though my aunt and uncle just moved out to Austin, so there's talk of visiting them as well.

Oh that's right you meant for in car use... I thought you meant once you were there what could you do without weights. One exercise that comes to mind though is the sort of bridge you do when something rolls behind you on the seat. (Lift butt up, get whatever it was, come back down).

At least with Austin you're getting into a more interesting part of the state. I've got a brother and sister their and they love it.

Austin is definitely worth a visit if you're going to be near it. I lived in Killeen/Ft. Hood for part of last year, and it's about an hour and a half away from Austin, and thank goodness, because much of central TX is kinda "meh."

Yeah, the aunt and uncle moved from Houston to Austin to be near to grandkids. Been to Houston but never Austin, though my cousin and her family have been out there for hmm 10 years, I think.

I am very familiar with the meh-ness of a good portion of Texas, since a lot of my mom's side of the family is out there, and I went to college in Abilene.

Weigh in: 148.4--guess I should be happy that the number is the same since I was back up to my normal water habits, if not a little over.

Sleep: 6 hours 37 min. Actually thought it'd be much lower cuz we got some major thunderstorms last night.

Stats for Thursday, June 11
Cals burned: 2641
Cals consumed: 1622 (166.2p/135.2c/48.8f) Macros close, though fat a bit high and carbs a bit low
Deficit: 1019

Activity
  • OPT Weeks 1-3 A2--liked everything except the side planks. First time out on both sides I wrote "60ish" for my time since I had to adjust as my elbow was past my shoulder. Second time out for both sides form was better but I collapsed around the 40sec mark on both. I don't feel like it's an issue with my core; it really feels like my shoulder itself is giving out.
  • 2 15-min walks at work
  • 1/2 hour DDR
Realized that with the hiccup in my schedule due to being sick on Wednesday, I'm going to have 3 days of resistance work in a row in order to get all that in. Debating about dropping the sets from 3 to 2 for the workouts today and tomorrow. I'll see how I feel this evening.

Side note: I talked to my mom on the phone last night. She was asking me how the diet's going, so I told her I've lost 4.8 lbs so far--of course most of that is decreased food volume and water weight, but still. She's been dieting herself for three-ish weeks now, I think, and has lost 5 pounds. She said she was disappointed, but since she just started incorporating resistance work, she thinks some of it may be that she's gaining muscle.

In my really long intro post from my "protolog," as Stingo/Tom called it, I mentioned that I wanted to set a good example for my mom. I really think her major issue is that she should be counting calories. I believe she's eyeballing portions, but that's it. Add to that that she and my dad eat out twice a week, sometimes three, and I doubt her deficit is as large as she thinks it is. I'm trying not to lecture and instead answer questions about my "strategy" when she asks them. We'll see.

Maybe you should take a food scale along and measure your portions while she's there. Not pointing it out of course, but to give her an idea of what's involved.

The other thing is that 5 pounds in 3 weeks is over 1.5lbs a week, which is generally considered a respectable loss. If she's doing that with eyeballing portions and such she may not need to change anything. I know when we're losing weight we all want to lose a ton of weight fast, but the reality is that most people don't lose that way.

I assume you're talking about the vacation. I'd kinda been leaning toward making it a true vacation where I don't weigh food; rather just focus on eating "clean" and give intuitive eating a shot since I honestly don't want to count calories forever and I don't want to use my GoWear Fit forever.

But I've also been thinking that just getting it done is very appealing, so I dunno. I'll take the scale suggestion under advisement.

Very true! I'll have to double-check with her that I'm right on the three weeks timeframe (that's what sounded right to me so that's what I put), but I'll be sure to mention that next time I talk to her. She's done a lot of Atkins-style diets in the past so I think she's gotten used to that initial "whoosh." The diet she's on now involves some sort of meal replacement shake, so I imagine that still has carbs in it.

I don't think she and I have yet discussed how keto-diets tend to have larger drops in the beginning or that that weight is gained back, since no one sane can stay on a keto diet forever.

Simplest thing would really be to just loan her my copy of Fat Loss Troubleshoot (I have it printed out) but my mom does tend to judge things on the basis of grammar. And honestly being an editor so do I, but I'm very thankful I was able to see past the grammar hiccups to the genuine info. So I guess that's also why I'm hoping I'll have smooth success--I could use myself as an example that the program and info does work, despite the typos.

Agreed. I always thought that Leigh should replace who is editing her work. If I'm picking up glaring errors they have to drive more picky people nuts.
