Oh: nice icon, what kinda animal is that, it looks cute!
Thanks for the link, though I don't think I'll be making yoghurt any time soon. For only 45 cents per pint of quark cheese, making your own yoghurt sounds like a messy and time-consuming business
I did try Espi's suggestion with the coffee filter though: its does help make the quark less acrid, and it gets really thick. Nice for a bit of variation from the normal quark (which I don't feel tastes bad at all).
Also: doing groceries makes for a good exercise: walking 15 minutes with 6kg of coke in my arms and another 12kg of stuff in my backpack
Ha, yeah making yogurt is actually pretty easy, but not something everyone feels the need to do
A recipe builder or calculator does come in handy for many types of things though, not just yogurt. Like a spaghetti sauce, soups, or other one dish type meals where it would be hard to estimate how much of each component you have eaten since they are all combined together in a recipe.

I thought also that the (healthy) bacteria in the "starter," whether it be yogurt or some sort of granulated starter I'm told you can get, eats some of the lactose as its food source, so therefore the carbohydrate level may change from the original amount of milk. I think, anyway.
When I make yogurt, I usually just find the nutrition for a commercial brand with the same amount of milk fat. No, it's not perfect, but it should be good enough for a ballpark figure.

Maintenance: eating lots of cake and icecream and cookies to make sure I get enough kcal! Weight seems to vary between 65.5kg and 66kg while it should be 65, but that's fine by me.
I didn't go to the gym last Monday as my hamstrings were still very sore from the Saturday before. They're still sore, but I didn't wanna skip twice in a row. Now my glutes and quads are sore, too
Today's exercises: A: pushups (4x5): used the bench in the dressing room
next time, it'll be the floor. was supposed to do 5x5, but then there was people in the dressing room, and it'd be awkward! B1: lat pulldowns (3x8): 16.5kg / 18.5kg / 20kg
Looks like I can still pull 20... I got worse in some stuff, but appearantly, not in this B2: pistol squats (3x5): woot
I substituted Juleske's Bulgarian Split Squats with Pistol Squats. I don't like the splits, but I love the Pistols! I can go all the way down when using my right leg, but not with my left yet. Also, doesn't look very elegant yet, but I'll get there!
Skipped the C-exercises, as they were sissy*!
Loved today's workout, since these are 3 things I'd really like to improve on. Maybe I should divide the 3 things I like over 3 different workouts though, so I won't have 2 stupid workouts and 1 great workout each week..
Oh, and I got a compliment from the gym owner on my weightloss! Wearing my pre-weighloss t-shirt always pays off, it makes it way obvious I lost weight
Planning a hiking holiday to Norway. My aunt lives there, so planning to stay at her place for 2 days, then go hiking for 3 days, and then recover at my aunt's for 2 more days.

Disturbing indeed. Really it boils down to that she's not willing to take ownership that she's the reason why she's obese, not because her missing disability pay won't let her afford Weight Watchers bars. Ugh.

Yeah, people like this piss me off. Granted, I was never as heavy at that age... however. 28 stone is 392 pounds. At over that weight (my top recorded weight was 407, but I'm pretty sure the actual was higher) I held down a job, more than one. Even with the bias against the morbidly obese I had three different companies hire me when I was heavier than this girl and/or around the same weight.
She's never worked? Doesn't plan to until she's lost more weight and had surgery? And they're willing to pay for plastic surgery if/when she loses more weight? Sheesh, I wish someone else would do that for me (although I have no plans for weight loss surgery, and that's about the only way Canada will cover the plastic surgery afterwards). She really doesn't understand how lucky she is.
Sigh, and people will think that a big percentage of obese people are just like this woman. And someone needs to tell her she doesn't need to buy weight watchers' cereal bars and crisps!

I know, that's the sad part about that whole article. She's exceptionally awful with regards to her lack of work ethic. And what a freakin' sense of entitlement she has, too.
Not that there isn't enough in that article to drop the jaw of most anyone, but this quote just makes me speechless: "It's heartbreaking that after all my hard work losing this weight someone's come along and ruined it."
Sadly, that's the problem with any social assistance. There's always someone who'll take advantage of it. The one thing is does highlight is that weight loss surgery is not a foolproof option. I see it advertised here a lot lately, and they make it seem like an effortless thing (which it isn't).

Very true. It's not uncommon to hear about people who, even after gastric bypass or a similar surgery, still gain the weight back. There is no quick or easy fix.

I was bored during sets and did a nice pistol on a bench.
The guy with the glasses who squats said: "you don't see people doing that in the gym often!"
I said "Well, people don't like the risk of falling on their face".
He said "Your friend always does them on the blue step over there".
I said: "Um yes, yes she does".
Which is sortof a boring conversation, but people are totally noticing your pistols!

The entitlement in that article is what made me nauseous...
::shudder::
I'm not sure I want people to notice my very crappy pistols
I'm teasing my bodybuilding-colleagues they totally can't do pistols (reverse psychology: I want them to try cuz they're so awesome), and then a non-fitness colleague comes up and goes like: "oh, that looks really easy" and does a perfect pistol.
Why oh why do I even bother struggling with something even an average office person can do easily I bet he can do 10 pushups too, without training

Well, I can't even get near doing pistol squats so I'm very impressed that you can do them. It's the non working leg I have trouble with, it doesn't like being lifted off the ground in front of me - hip inflexibility? I don't know. Maybe I should work on my hip flexion exercises a bit more.
But no more frowny faces concerning your pistols squats please!
.. really? I'm always impressed with the weights you lift, so if you can't do pistol squats, they must be hard after all.
Maybe its a guy-thing.. they seem to always be able to lift way more than I can..

This is why I don't like competetiveness. Unless you're the best ever, you always end up unhappy
I only compete with yesterday's me. If I win, I'm doing good.
That's a good way to do it!

Its hard for me not to compete, I do it automatically. I'll try competing with myself only
Yesterday Juleske helped me make my own program! It's short, only about 45 mins workouts (except Saturdays, which have the much-hated interval training after the lifts). Its 3 different workouts that I have to follow for 4 weeks, and then another 3 workouts for the following 4 weeks. Good thing about this kind of program: it forces you to do train muscles you don't really like to train, while still allowing you to pick the excercises you dislike least! Or at least, make sure you don't have workouts that have NO exercises you like in them, but a decent mix of exercises you like, some you don't like, and some that you don't mind.
Today's workout looks like this:
A1: DB snatch (5x5) B1: Incline Bench Press (3x8) B2: Single Leg Romanian DL (3x8) C1: Plank (2x 60 sec) C2: Cuban Snatch (2x12) D: Intervals on stationary bike
Monday will be:
A1: Underhand Lat Pulldown (5x5) B1: Bent-over row (3x8) B2: Step-up (3x8) C1: Tony Pull Thingy* (2x12) C2: Back extension (2x12)
* Tony (Gentilcore, who else!) posted a vid of something that looked a bit like facepulls but was an anti-twist-core exercise. Can't find the post any more though

You might want to take a look at Power Training by Robert dos Remedios. It will help you learn to create your own workouts so that they are balanced between push/pull movements and unilateral/bilateral movements.

Hm... weight is slowly creeping up: I guess that means I'm overeating slightly. I'm not worried about now, but it means I'll have to carefully monitor my intake when I'm finally done with all the deficit stuff. Then again, I haven't been really good with my calories this week. There's stuff I didn't put in my log, mostly the stuff I had to put it by hand: I couldn't be bothered. There's also aunt Flo, she doesn't help much either. Today's the last day of the maintenance, I haven't got anything special planned (well, I did plan pancakes, but I forgot to buy them), did buy a fruity nutbar, cuz I didn't wanna buy a whole pack of nuts and have lots leftover when I started deficit again: too tempting! Nuts are great for maintenance: lots of kcal in a small snack! Not so great on a defict though
Here's yesterday's workout:
A1: DB snatch (5x5): 14kg
same weight I did last time I did snatches on NROL4W, so not too shabby! B1: Incline Bench press (3x8): 8kg
meh.. I could do 10kg on NROL4W (though barely), so a bit disappointed B2: Single Leg Romanian DL (3x8): 12kg
did that last week, my muscles ached for a whole week after. yesterday, I just felt them contracting nicely during the exercise: great feeling! C1: Plank (2x 60 sec): 34 sec / 36 sec
I *will* reach 60 at the end of this stage!! C2: Cuban Snatch (2x12): 2kg
I'm probably able to do 4 kg, but this for mobility, not strength! I'll up to 4 when I get really bored with them though. D: Intervals on stationary bike: 10 - 12 - 12 - 12
Thinking of switching to stepmachine... is it even possible to do intervals on one of those?
I'm going hiking in Norway by myself in September. I'm gonna take it easy. It will be only 1 day of real hiking (a short one), on a plateau, so not really any inclines, with 2 nights in a tent. My aunt has all the necessary gear, so I won't have to bring any stuff on the plane. I'm a little intimidated, but also looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish! Its not only the hiking, but I never went on holiday by myself.
Also planning to go hiking in the UK next spring/summer with 2 of my friends who live there. This will be a more serious hike: 218 km over hilly terrain, and Hannah wants to cover around 20-30 miles/day (32 - 48 km). I'm gonna need lots of training for that...
Been reading up a bit, appearantly stepmachine is a decent way to prepare a bit for hiking. Leg muscles need to be strong too, so no more skimping on those unilateral leg exercices! I've always hated them, but now I find myself looking forward to them. Funny how having a goal can change that
One thing that's a bit of a problem: I don't have any hiking boots. I should defenitely get some, but finding boots that meet my demands are not easy to find. Demands this far are:
- not tight in the toe box, as I'll lose some room there from my insole
- no seams over the toebox, those prevent the bit of stretch I need to fit my insole in the shoe
- high top
- non-leather
- waterproof
I know 2 online shops (vegetarian shoes and ethical wares) that sell stuff that will probably meet my demands (can't determine the first 2 from some pics and text on a website), but both are based in the UK, and only one has a actual shop. I know there's a reseller in Amsterdam, but not looking forward to a 4-hour journey just to get there (not to mention low funds this month..). I mailed one of them to ask whether they have a reseller in Belgium, but no reply yet.
I was thinking of not getting the hiking boots for the Norway trip and wait till January when I will be in the UK and can try them on in person, but I'm realising more and more that I *will* regret that if there's even the slightest bit of rain/soggyness - my shoes are made of canvas..
Its raining horribly here today, so I'll go check out the stepmachine in the gym today instead of going for a walk in the forest. I'll see if I can manage to step 1 hour on a not-too-shabby-but-not-too-high setting.
