I am shocked and appalled that I never thought to take a picture of myself with my own foam roller. I may have to go give it a hug of appreciation.

Aha, but this is no mere gadget! It's the super-self-myofascial-release-holy-grail-of-health-and-recovery! I am converted to preaching the gospel of foam. If foam rollers were on facebook I would be 'a fan'.
I actually checked FB earlier, and there is a plethora of groups devoted to the foam roller. The best group name was "My Foam Roller Completes Me," LOL. That'd make for a good tagline.
Deadlifts: 55kg
My deadlifts are troublesome. Two weeks ago I was hitting 62kg. One week ago I nearly sprained my back doing 62kg, this week 55kg was hard. I'm eating my protein, not losing any muscle, I religiously do warmup sets. All my other lifts are going up. The main problem is the first lift (I don't put the BB down till I'm done with my set). The 'lockout' doesn't feel right. I'm thinking maybe it's because I've been neglecting my core... I'll put in some daily planks and cobras and see if that helps.
Hmmmmm......you are supposed to set the BB down after each rep (hence the "dead" in the deadlift...you come to a dead stop ). Are you doing RDL's instead of conventional deads????

DOH!
Yes. We have been doing them wrong.

Um... yes. I quickly went to get the book (which I had to find in the dark since my appartment is filled with men sleeping off their drunken stupors), and it does indeed say: "On your heaviest sets let teh bar come to a complete stop on the floor, On higher rep sets let the weights tap the floor before the beginning of the new rep".

The most impressive thing about them is that they are relatively cheap.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Finally: whatever you do, keep writing KG, we are going to teach dem Merkans (Canadians and Usonians) to convert to kilograms & grams.. we got them converted for weighing food in grams already.. now just the weight lifted too.
I hear ya! I just realised that I was reading the weights lifted and could straight away understand what they were!
By the way Jules, I'm guilty of not setting BB on the ground after each rep on deadlifts. Oops! Let's put an end to that!
So if you don't set the barbell down between reps, are they called livelifts? (badabing)
Don't worry; I limit myself to one bad pun a week.

Felt a throat ache and oodles of tired come up yesterday. I sniffed a superdose of Vit. C and went to bed at 21. Today, I'm okay, but I'll skip the gym today.
Always hard, isn't it, to tell whether you should push yourself to go to the gym even though you feel bad, or if you should stay home and recover? How do you make the call? For me, I push myself when I feel tired, and stay home when I feel something else (dizzy, woozy, nauseous, etc.). I don't want to be part of the "puked at the gym" club.
I did foam roll, though! Now I'm off to make a tortilla with stir-fried onions and mushrooms & smoked mackerel. And buckle up for a night of studying. Rawr.
Well, if you're a fan of Princess Bride you know that there is a big difference b/w Mostly Dead and All Dead.
I've been doing DLs in sets of 15-20 for weeks now since I went from Stage 7 NROL4W to Break-In NROL. They are Mostly Dead Deadlifts as I just tap the floor. (I'm getting really sick of high rep sets.)

You're very disciplined to go all the way through the break-in program! I would just say, "gha, I'm a better man than Lou, I don't need any break in programs", and then probably herniate my spine on the first quarterlift.
...
Can you herniate a spine? Is a spine herniatable? Is that even a word?

Ahh, Princess Bride. Back in college, my friends and I used to quote the dialogue while we watched it. Same with Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail. Good times.

Language isn't static. For all that I was an English major, I'm a huge fan of making up words.
Not sure you can herniate your entire spine, but you can certainly herniate a disc. A coworker of mine had surgery for that very thing not too long ago.

Took a sick day today, still sleeping badly. I wake up about three or four times each night, usually in the middle of a Scribessque* type dream. I'm exhausted in the morning, it's been like that for two weeks now. Guess I'm a bit too stressed with exams 'n all.
On the upside, I lost some weight and two centimers in my hips. It's not quite the Amber-train*, but it's positive feedback on the few changes I've made:
- I've been making more walks.
- I've tried eating when I'm naturally hungry, and not at times when I feel I should. This means a breakfast at 12, and then usually no food until I'm home. Then I eat a big meal and am feeling full for the rest of the evening. This eliminates all of my craving moments. Two meals a day! I'm such a rebel.
- It's also really important for me not to snack between meals. If I do, I usually end up snacking all day long. When i have 100kcal left in my meal plan, it's tempting to sneak in a snack, but I'm really better off just making my dinner bigger. Like, by slathering sour cream on my pork chops. Diet's all about discipline, folks.
Off day activity: 20 minute walk, 3-hour plank (well, it felt like it), supine bridgesx30
* Yes, it's my goal to make everyone on this forum into a descriptor, be it noun or adjective.

Still a bit sick (coughing and an easily remedied headache), but went to work anyway (calvinist work ethic for the win).
Did Cressey's mobility warm up, supine thingies, a cobra. I need to go to the mobility forum at some point, some of those foam rolling exercises don't quite work on my body the way they do on Eric's
I'll try to do them every day from now on (I'll stop mentioning it a some point. Otherwise I might as well start mentioning that I flossed today.)
(It's a lie. I didn't. I lost my floss. It may be behind the washing machine.)
Now I'm off to make beef steak in wine sauce with grapes, and then to veg in front of the TV with Farscape.
Jules, So glad I got caught up with your log....I finally know the difference between a dead lift and an RDL. That one had been bugging me.
And motivated to *maybe* actually do some foam rolling tonight...trainer had me do multiple hellish sets of one legged bridge butt lifts with 15 leg lifts on the 15th rep, and my hammies are killing me - you know some day I need to learn the real names for things.
One lives in Oklahoma and the other lives in Texas. Sadly, my local friends aren't as interested in spending an hour and a half quoting movie dialogue.

I can do that. I just make a slight modification. I do them on my back.
Dawn you crack me up. I was reading quickly and just saw 3 hr plank and I can do that. My thought was HOW? then the next sentence registered in my mind and I couldn't help but laugh!
