Hi there!

Good to see someone who loves to lift. Front squats are supposed to (almost) feel as if you're choking yourself..

She lives out in the middle of no where. It is pretty common to have a building that is about the size of a 2 car garage without the garage doors to pull a car in. She stores stuff she wants to hang on to. I did talk her out of a pickup load (gave to Goodwill), and we threw away a pickup load, and she is going to have a garage sale with some of the other stuff (she just can't give it away --- too valuable) . It was her Mother's Day present.

I had a fun day today. I went to a 4 hour krav maga gun and knife seminar. Tonight I am watching the UFC. A whole day of martial arts

Yeah, I do love lifting. I have often wondered if I was in the situation where I had to give up martial arts or lifting what would I do. It would be a horrible position to be in, but ultimately I think that i would give up martial arts. I think that I would be a wreck without lifting.

If it is suppose to feel like you are choking then I must be doing them right. The bar actually sits on my collar bone and delts (I think that is its name) and if it rolls back a little and I have to harden my throat for protection.

Hi Peaches, I too just found your blog. It's funny how you just don't notice some, and all of a sudden it's there.

I'm of a similar age, 46, and I love reading about other women in their 40's and over.

I've had some of the hormonal issues lately myself, 2 weeks between periods...ugh what's up with that?

Did NROL4W for a couple months, but had to stop due to a medical reason, gained a crapload of weight as I healed (ate and drank to dull pain) but now I'm back, just not to NROL.

But I look forward to trying some of the exercises again when I'm fit enough.

Take care.

So did you watch UFC 100 last night? (I thought about ordering the PPV, but I just can't bring myself to do that, even for UFC ones, LOL.) I was able to review the post-game results, and am pleased St. Pierre won, though I honestly thought Alves would really tear into him.

One of the things that I'd love to do, once I complete my half-marathon in December, is to take martial-arts classes. I haven't really pinpointed which form yet, so this is something I'll have to explore once I get there... Wish I could've been at that seminar yesterday, too!

I can relate. When I am injured, I use it as a great reason to drink. It does help with the pain and helps me to sleep.

Lately, I have just been feeling 'not right' with my hormones and it has been a great excuse to eat and drink poorly. I decided yesterday that I was turning over a new leaf today. So, no more. I am going to have to deal with my issues in other ways.

Working on getting my hormones checked. If I can make it to Monday without starting my period, I will have my second blood work done. If not, I don't know what the doc will decide to do next. Monday will be day 17 --- the first blood work was done on day 3. Fingers crossed --- I can feel it coming.

Where does the 6311 stand for actually? I thought it was your year & month of birth but when you say to be 43 that isn't correct... a ZIP code would be 5 numbers right? (I'm 6307 but turning 46 soon.. )
Curious minds want to know

And holy smokes.. looked at your pushpress.. 10 reps at 80# or rather 36.3 kg .. not bad at all. You're a strong grrrl!

We get together with 2 other "families" and split the cost. That way it isn't too much. We use to go to a sports bar and watch it but that was a big hassle. Figured that if we split it we spend less than eating out.

GSP dominated, but I have to give Alves credit --- he put up a good fight. GSP got a groin injury in the 3rd round, but he didn't let it slow him down. Any time Alves tried to kick, GSP just took him to the ground. Great fight.

But even better was the Henderson - Bisping. Henderson knocked him out and then landed on him with an elbow just for good measure. Ouch!

Mir was surprisingly confident going up against the Lesnar (the human tank) but was easily beaten. The crowd booed Lesnar after the win. Which he loved of course.

Sorry you didn't get to see all the action in person. But of course, it will be on spike for free later.

I tried out a few classes before I settled on the one I take now. I have taken as much as 3 different martial arts at a time. But now I am only taking a self defense martial arts. Though I really enjoyed BJJ and Muay Thai. I could no longer justify taking them after my son quit because the idea of me taking those was to spend time with him. After my kids are grown, I might take them up again.

I wished I liked to run. A half-marathon is a really big accomplishment.

When I first set up my yahoo mail there was a peaches --- so I added my house address to my email address. I have since moved a few times but I just keep it and go by it.

Thanks on the push press. I really wished that i could do 95 so I wouldn't have to spend my rest time changing the weights on the bar --- is that lazy??? I want to rest on my rest time

OK.. forgot how long American addresses can get with starting anew after every block and streets going on like 4ever..

I'm always supersetting but never spend a lot of time searching/changing plates, I mean yes I do use new wts for nearly every set, but always round them up in advance so they are close: do a set, add more wt (or remove wt) , go to the other exercise , add wt there and then go back for the next set ... but I do take my time.
If I've got nothing left to do, I'm looking around if I can already set up the next 2 supersets and when I've started on those, will sometimes leave the area as it is , to return during a rest period of that 3rd & 4th exercise to clean up behind me.
That's how I used to manage 40 sets within 1 hr in an ORGANIZED gym!

Well, I managed to not start my period (19 days), so I was able to get my blood work done (YEA!!!). The lady who took my blood said that my doctor was very through. I guess that is a good thing. Now, I just have to wait until the end of the month to find out what is going on.

Started doing WW on my own yesterday. I would join WW, but I like to weigh more than they allow for lifetime.

Got to do some NEAT

I'll keep my fingers crossed about the blood work.

And it's funny that you mention how you wished you liked running. Sometimes, I wish I didn't like it so much, LOL. What I'm trying to say is that there are all these other activities that I'd love to get more into (such as belly dancing, which I'm putting on temporary hold, or martial arts), but the running took over all of that.

I'll be sure to catch the UFC 100 rerun on Spike, but what cracked me up was Lesnar's apology at the post-PPV press conference for his match behavior. He definitely took a page from his wrasslin' entertainment experience and played it to the hilt on Saturday night.

NROL Fatloss 2A

Warm UP -- 10 jumping Jacks, 10 pushups, 10 squats, 10 bounces, inchworm, deadlift with bar(45#), Bulgarian Split Squat one each leg body weight.

Alternating Sets with 30 sec rest a few times it was 45+ sec rest due to waiting on machine or one time a guy came over to tell me how impressed he was with my form on my lifts. He said he was a personal trainer and not only did I lift heavy for a woman (plus first woman he saw do deadlifts) but I had great form when I did them. That made me feel really proud.

Alternating sets
Snatch-Grip Deaedlift 8@ 135#, 6 @ 135#, 7 @ 135#
T-Pushup 3 sets of 8 using 15# dumbbells

Alternating Sets
BSS/Overhead Press 3 sets of 8 using 15# each hand
Underhand-Grip Lat Pulldown 6 @ 100#, 7@ 90#, 8 @ 90#

Alternatin Sets
Romainian Deadlift/Bent-Over Row 8 @ 40#, 8@45#, 8@ 45#
Lower Body Russian Twist 3 sets of 8 BW

Cool Down on treadmill 30 sec. @ 5 rested 1 min. 30 sec. @ 7 rested 1 min., 30 sec. @ 8 rested 1 min., and then walked till heart rate was about 130.

Max heart rate 188
Average heart rate 157 --- this includes cool down and stretch

Calories burned 562

Nice compliment from the trainer! That's cool that he was impressed with the weights you were using, even though you're doing a fat loss program (since you probably use lower weights during those workouts anyway.)

Nice deadlifts too!

When they were interviewing him at the end of the fight he said that he was going home to drink Coors (I think) because Bud would pay him. Bud sponsored the fight, and at the post-PPV he was drinking a Bud. Closest he'll come to eating crow.

It was nice. Plus, I had always worried a little if I was doing them right. I have heard how badly you can hurt yourself by doing them wrong. So, it brought me a little comfort plus a little bit of pride.

Not sure that I am good at the lower weight idea. I think that is why I dislike high reps --- I want to lift heavy weights. I like the way it feels, but I don't like the way lifting light with lots of reps feel. So even when I am suppose to lift more reps I tend to load up too high.

Thanks. I almost went with a lower weight that I knew I could do 8 times. But the risers were in the other room, and I didn't want to go get them. I was encouraged to see that I did almost do 3 sets of 8 at that weight.

I had always thought that preteens were clumsy because their bodies were changing so quickly. I have a new theory. I think it is because of hormones.

Lately, I have been very clumsy. Today I was doing dynamic lunges in the squat rack --- which is probably boarderline rude -- but no one seemed interested in it. I was on my last set and was really focused on form and next thing I knew I was falling. No one laughed at me except me.

NROL Fatloss 2A

Alternating Sets 30 sec. rest
Front Squat 3 sets of 8 @ 100#
Wide Grip Cable Seated Rows 8 @ 85#, 7 @ 85#, 8 @ 80#

Alternating Sets 30 sec. rest (except where noted)
Supine Hip Xtn/ Leg Curl 8 BW, 8 single legs, 8 BW
Barbell Push Press 7@ 95#, 6 @ 95#, 4 @95# (rested 45 sec. before last set and it was still too heavy for me)

Alternating Sets 30 sec. rest
Dynamic Lunge 3 sets of 8 @ 50# (fell on #7 of last set got up and finished it off)
Upper Body Russian Twist 3 sets of 8 with 25# dumbbell

Then I added Alternating sets with no rest
incline setups 10 with 10# dumbbell, 2 sets of 8 with 25# dumbbell
Roman Chair Straight Leg Lifts 3 sets of 10

Warm up:
3 min on treadmill, 2 sets of 10 jumpping jacks, 10 squats, 10 pushups, 10 toe bounces

Cool Down --- was the ab work at the end.

Peaches, I forgot to say that you're a strong gal. Doing T-pushups w/15-lb db's? That's actually pretty good. I still struggle w/renegade rows even though push-ups wise, I'm solid at them. And your push presses are nothing to sneeze at, either.

I like the way both of these feel. Not particularly fond of the way front squats feel with being strangled by the bar and all.

You know I need to have my hubby video tape me doing these. I have asked him if I am going parallel and he says yes. I try to really focus on doing that, but I am not positive.

To continue my saga of how clumsy I am. Last night at the rec center where I take my martial arts class, I tripped over the scale in the bathroom (same place it has been for months) and then after leaving the bathroom slipped on some water by the water fountain. But once I got into class, I felt more coordinated than I have in a long time. Maybe the clumsies are finally leaving me alone for awhile.

From time to time I also have bouts with clumsiness. I haven't tracked it in relation to my cycle, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if hormones (or nutrition) have something to do with it.

Almost seems that clumsy folks find solace in lifting heavy weights

Here's another klutz!

I use to blame everything on being over 40 --- now I toss it into the hormone bucket

Well I did NROL Fatloss 2B today, sort of. I felt really weak and tired. I don't know if I was tired from the yard work I did this morning or if the fact that my martial arts class (last night) has been doing more physical training. Either way I had a hard time getting through thte workout and I rested as long as I wanted --- which was long between exercises.

Warm Up:
5 min. Treadmill, 30 jumping jacks, 10 squats ATG with 10# dumbbell, 10 pushups, 10 toe bounces.

Alternating Set
Sncatch Grip Deadlift --- When I pulled the 45# off the rack it seemed heavy. That should have been a clue that I was going to have trouble lifting it.
8@135, 5@135, 8 @ 45

T-Push-up
8 With 15#, 8 with 10#, 8 with 15#

Alternating Set
BSS/ Overhead Press 8@5s#, 8@10s#, 8@5s# --- could have used the 10# dumbbells on all of these but someone else was using them when I needed them. I couldn't do the 15s# today

Underhand-Grip Lat Pulldown
8@70#, 8 @ 85#, 8@85#

Alternating Set
Romanian Deadlift/Bent-Over Row
3 sets of 8 @ 40#
Lower Body Russian Twist 3 sets of 8

It was a victory today to just get through the workout. I wanted to quit as soon as I got started. I am helping someone paint tonight. So I will get alot of physical activity today. We are rebuilding our fence tomorrow --- lots of NEAT.

I have one more of each workout in fatloss 2. I really want to finish on a high note. I hope I don't have another day like today.
