So anyway, what's with the new avi? Is there a reason you took the old one down, like did you think it made you look fat or something?
LMAO...gee, I wonder!
Damien--you're adorable. I'm so glad we met. You're warm, sweet, funny, smart and handsome (not awkward). And I enjoyed taking your skinfolds without the caliper.
Damien,
I wanted to drop in and say what a kick it was to meet you at the Summit. And, folks, his workouts are paying off. He looks to be getting hyoooge!
John, you are awesome! I'm so glad to have met you there and I feel privileged that you've stopped by here to say hello. I certainly enjoyed hanging out with you at the summit! I'm quite proud to receive a compliment from you!

Yeah, I don't really know? Just one of those feelings I got. I mean, who really thinks the camera adds like 30, I mean... 10 lbs.
Well someonewas going to send me a new one. Paging Karen411 please, Karen.

You did WHAT without the caliper . j/k. Thanks for the kind words. I see my bribes worked!!! The "pretty handsome awkward" thing is a title from a cool song I like. I like how those words go together for some reason!
Now can I stop sucking it in!!

Hi Karla. Coming from you, that means a lot (I mean this in a good way)! I'm flattered by the compliment. I enjoyed meeting you and hanging out as well. I heard you played guitar, wish I could have seen that!

I'm so honored and flattered that you all stopped in to say hello. I had a great time this year at the Summit and really enjoyed meeting all of you and so many other great people!
Unfortunately I haven't had much time to check in here since I got back and this is the first time I checked this page. I came back with an awful cold that's kicking my ass and have been busy with some other stuff.
I've got some thoughts and some stuff to post about the summit and hope to have them up here soon!

I believe I have that on video...I just need to get some batteries since my video camera died the first night (which may have been just as well). I'll see about getting that done...soon.
Ruh roh... is this something you can post, or would I prefer you to just pm me????
Oh it was nothing bad. Just I had seen a picture of someone else somewhere that I had associated with you for all this time. And when I saw you, I didn't believe you were who you said you were! I had kinda confused myself and needed a few takes and verifications that you were really who you claimed to be. Okay, so maybe it was just funny to me!!

That's cool. I brought my camera and took a grand total of ZERO pictures.
Well, I was hoping to have this all up in one post but I'm not finished so I'll have to drag it out!
Some stuff from the summit:
FRIDAY -
My flight is scheduled to leave at noon. I think about getting up for my normal Friday workout but I'm a bit sore from earlier in the week and decide to sleep in and relax and get back at it Monday. I somehow manage to take way too long to get going and make myself pretty late getting to the airport. I show up and the economy lots are full. Since I'm running late, I don't have time to head to the shuttle parking so I have to park in the high-roller $25 per day garage!! WTF. I told myself I would just pretend I spent the money at the bar!
Check in and hop on board for the quick 1 1/2 hour flight to KC. 2:15 (15 mins before we were supposed to have been there) rolls around and the captain says the weather is horrible and we can't land. We'll circle for a bit but may have to go to Tulsa. We circle for a bit and then we're heading for Tulsa. 45 mins later, Tulsa is full so we're going to OK City. We land in OK city and I'm starving but instead of heading for food, I do what all folks heading to a fitness summit for the weekend do and hit the bar. Put back a few drinks with some nice folks I met on the plane. A few hours later we board, push out and then get pushed back in to sit in the plane. We finally take off around 6:00. We get to KC around 7:45 but there aren't any gates so we have to sit in the plane for another hour!! Finally get to the shuttle at around 9:00 and arrive at the hotel at 10:00 freaking o' clock!!! Gawd I was so bummed out.
John, Neil, Jamie, Bill, David and Rob decide they want custard and I'm starving to death so I devour a dbl. hambuger before they even taste their desserts!!
With the exception of the nice buzz I got in OK City and meeting a lot of friendly folks when I got in; Friday pretty much sucked and I was so bummed out to miss spending time with everyone.
Let me give props to Southwest here, they had no control over what happend and certainly didn't have to do anything for us passengers but I got this e-mail yesterday:
Greetings from Southwest Airlines:
I’m sorry your May 15 trip was caught in the middle of a weather-related mess that evening. I learned from our Meteorologists that a strong cold front was moving through the Midwest which led to the diversion of your flight—I certainly imagine the wait you experienced for an available gate once you arrived at Kansas City only added to the frustration with the circumstances surrounding your already exhausting day.
Even though the thunderstorms were unrelenting and we were unable to provide you with timely service, we would like to invite you back for much-better air travel memories. In this regard, I’m sending a LUV Voucher for you to apply toward your next Southwest reservation—please accept this humble gesture as our acknowledgement of your inconvenience. We truly appreciate your valued patronage, and you can be sure that we are looking forward to welcoming you back onboard real soon.
This e-mail was followed by a $150 travel voucher. I mean, how cool is that? I certainly didn't expect anything. It's awesome to see a company that cares about its customers. I'll be flying them again.
Unless it's raining next year. Then I'll be PISSED!!!!
So anyway, what's with the new avi? Is there a reason you took the old one down, like did you think it made you look fat or something?
LMAO. Nice one, Celeste. I'm sure there will be some pics from the summit to choose from, Damien. It was great meeting you, man.

So cool about the voucher. I suppose you'll be going to Cancun or somewhere else that would make us extremely jealous? I almost took a bump on our flight to KC but REALLY didn't want to chance not getting there at all. I think Bytsi and I were the last two to get in before the storms.

Same here. Ridiculous. Good thing we have trained professionals around to pick up the slack. ; )

A number of people had this problem with Bytsi. Plus, some of us thought her real name was Bytsi and this Brynda thing is just confusing. My mental image was a nervous, hyper little person and instead we got calm, sweet Brynda.
Anyway, hi there Damien, wanted to say hey and I was only kidding about your mom.

I've so been outed here, eh? sigh... so much for anonymity - I think my name's been in 3 or 4 different threads now... That's what I get for meeting ya'll in real life!!! (it's ok - really - I already had my pic up anyway ). FWIW, I would answer to Bytsi cuz it's been my online "persona" for years and years and years...
But - while I may not be a "nervous hyper little person" I am RARELY called calm... or sweet...
Hmmm.....I think I may fly South West from now on, too. I didn't because they were much more expensive this time. That does sound like even more of a nightmare than my Thursday flight story with the 2-1/2 delay and missing my connecting flight, getting in at 11:00 p.m. instead of 4:00 p.m. At least it was only Thursday night and I still had the next three days. Sitting in a plane for an hour after it has landed sounds like hell. I'm glad SW is making ammends.
Holy smokes I have fallen so far behind this week! Came back from KC with a horrible cold that was kicking my ass (finally over it now). With work and all kinds of other crap going on it was just a tough, tough week. I thought about filling a prescription for what I thought might do the trick:
Needless to say, I did not make it to the gym all of last week. I did some stretching and foam rolling stuff a couple of times and about 35 minutes on the treadmill on Saturday. I made it back to the gym today though (report to follow)!
I had started some cool thoughts about the summit but just never finished and now it's kinda late.
In a nutshell, I had a great time and met some awesome people! I wish I could have had more time to spend visiting though! I took a lot of good information out of there and will start putting it to work!
I did get one story typed about my flight home, and I'll wrap up my summit thoughts with it: Enjoy:
After my extremely long, delayed flight into KC, while I was sitting in the KC airport guzzling water after water; I couldn't help but think just how much a repeat of my flight in would suck on the way home and I was really dreading this possibility. No rain, no tornadoes, I should be okay!!
Despite not being able to sleep, this flight wasn't all that bad. In fact, I'm pretty sure the flight attendant had a bit of a crush on me! We exchanged the usual smiles and pleasantries while I ordered my ginger ale to help settle my not so settled stomach. The flight attendant provided some more exaggerated smiles and pleasantries and then carries on.
So my ginger ale shows up along with a shooter of jack daniels! I quickly explain to the attendant that I did not order the jack daniels (as I may have had a little too much last night) and certainly didn't want to pay for it (in more ways than one). The attendant said, "oh this is on me, you look like you need it" *smile*. Then I was asked if I didn't drink or something? ha ha *smile* I said, yeah, that's a little far from the truth. So I figure, what the hell; a little hair of the dog will probably do me some good.
I drink my drink and head to the bathroom. I get back to my seat and to my surprise I find another ginger ale and shooter of jack daniels on my tray table which I'm quite sure I put up to go to the bathroom. A smile and nod follows from my new friend. I was starting to feel better, so what the heck, another one sounds pretty good by now!! My drink is consumed and my new friend shows up. I say thanks, I appreciate it and it really helped (this is true actually). "Oh, well let me get you another!" is the response I'm given. I express my gratitude but there is no way I'm drinking any more and my friend is finally assured I don't need anything else to drink, or more peanuts, or more pretzels. I'm flattered and I smile as I put my iPod back on and relax. Final thank you's are exchanged as well as inquiries about where I'm from, etc. Talk about some great service!!
I FINALLY made it back to the gym today. I was hoping I didn't forget how to get there! Have been really tired lately so I wasn't sure how good I'd do but what the heck - I needed to get back at it!

Well I survived the workout today despite not having a whole lot of energy! The gym was PACKED today; I've never seen that many people in there before. It was hard to get around to do anything and rest periods pretty much fell by the wayside (they probably would have anyway). I'm not very happy with the decline press today. I tried for 215 but couldn't even unrack it and I really started to break down in the later sets.
I am happy about the deadlifts though and they were really, really hard today! After about 15, I was ready to call it a day but I got myself through until I reached my rep goal. 355 was qutie a bit harder than 345 was a couple of weeks ago!
I tore a scab off my shin (an injury from deadlifting last time) and my leg started bleeding pretty good. I didn't even notice at first until I looked down and saw blood running down my leg! (oops) After that my nose started bleeding, so needless to say it was and "interesting" day! Calf raises were lame. There really wasn't a way to get over to the heavy dumbbells which were keeping pretty busy so I just grabbed a plate and just blasted through some reps.
Just glad I got it done today!

A "challenge" here at JP is coming up at a good time and I've decided to take part in it. I was thinking about "dialing" in the diet a little bit anyway so this will be some extra motivation to keep on track!
Weird thing is that I lost 6.5 lbs. last week! I'm not very thrilled about that as it's mainly a product of not eating which usually is not a problem at all. I did come back up a little bit today when I "weighed-in" to have my starting weight for the challenge. I'm starting at 203 lbs.
Gotta get some measurements and pictures done before Friday!

ROFLMAO! Okay, I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. I had ginger ale on my two flights home, too, but apparently nobody had a crush on me, because mine didn't come with anything extra. Did you make that story up? That is too funny. Did you get a number? LOL. I know that hair of the dog thing really does work, but I can't usually bring myself to do it.

Ahahahahahaaaaa! Hilarious story! I'm with Kathy, did you get a number? LOL!
Nice workout, it's always hardest getting back in there after being out for so long, especially when you're sick. That is a heck of a lot of reps and sets anyway, holy cow! Maybe I should rethink my decision to do HIAH next? Deadlifts looking good too.
...and, CHALLENGE? What challenge? Gotta go check it out! No more time online though atm, I'll have to wait...

Nah, that story is true, true. I probably missed a few *smiles* in there but otherwise it was right on! No I didn't get a number

Thanks. It sucked and I wasn't excited about getting back but I did! It's a lot of volume doing 25 reps of heavy deadlifts for sure but it's good for ya!
The challenge is the "extreme elimination" or something like that. Nick started it.
That story was hilarious, and very nice deadlifts, especially for your first workout in a while.
Good luck with the challenge.
Thanks Paul! I'm feeling it today a little bit.
TUESDAY MAY 26, 2009
Hey 2 days in a row since my "off" week! woo hoo.
- stretching and mobility stuff
- 2 sets of "Turkish Get-Ups" 10 reps. per side w/ 25 lb. kettlebell
- 2 sets of kettlebell cleans 10 reps. per side w/ 45 lb. kettlebell
- 30 mins incline walking at 4.0 mph up to 25% incline
GAWD, a few of the "big ass" fans aren't working at the gym today and it was hot as hell! I "plan" to be getting in for at least 2 days of good cardio workouts and will probably do a 3rd day per week at home on the treadmill.
Didn't have any major issues like I usually get in my shoulder from time to time but the "extreme stress soreness" had really built up and it was a perfect evening to get in for some deep tissue work. An hour of what feels like getting the tar kicked out of me really helped!
I've got to get some pictures and measurements taken before Friday for this challenge!
