Default OPTing in on the program

2008- the year of frustration.

I stared 2008 off on a roll, then my weightloss got totally derailed. Why? A torn labrum in my left shoulder left me with months of pain and strength loss. After jumping through numerous diagnosis hoops, I finally had surgery on 9/17- the beginning of four very long months of recovery. My doc has now released me, and my shoulder ROM is "within normal limits". I managed not to gain while I was recovering, but I didn't loose either.

I have, however, learned a few things. Mostly that whatever program I do has to fit in a 5 day period. Weekends are my own, and as I travel nearly every weekend and am active while on the road, formal workouts (strength or cardio) aren't going to happen. I also know that I don't want to spend the better part of my free time during the week in the gym.

I've decided to give Leigh's OPT program a try. I'm committed to the first round of it- starting today. I've not been good about logging in the past, but we are going to try and make up for that this go round.

2009- the year I get it done.

Weekend was good. Dove Eagles Nest Sat and Sun, 3 hour runtime each day. Managed to control the caloric intake. It was just me and B. though, will be harder this coming weekend when the whole crew is there and things get social.

Did A1 yesterday. Man I do not like this workout- specifically the bridges, supermans and planks. I always hate those. A little concerned over the fly and shoulder press- man have I lost a ton of strength on the left especially (not suprising).

Will do A2 this afternoon.

Thanks!

Yesterday was good- I like the "B" workout a lot better than the "A".

I am having a lot of trouble with the side plank though- my left shouldr just can't handle it....

Already did my cardio for the day this morning .

Well... 1 week in and I managed to hit all the workouts and stay on track with the diet. This morning the scale shows me down an even 1lb, which is 1.4lbs more than yesterday. I think this might be attributable to a couple of factors, namely that I am approaching "that" time and that I slept like crap last night. My diet has been in my caloric goal all week (and yes, I weigh my food, in grams). Hopefully next Friday will see a larger drop in the scale as I "catch up".

Good job with compliance and the scale (even with a little bump today)!

Weel 2, down another 1.4 lbs. As with last week, yesterday was a lower weight (by about a pound) than today. I think it's water. I think I'm a little heavier on Fridays because my lifting days are M,T,TH,F and my cardio days are M,W,F.

I was pretty good again this week. I missed both cardio and lifting on Monday. I was wiped out from the weekend, as we didn't get home until about 9:30 Sunday night.

I am a horrible journaler .

So.. at the end of week 4 I am down a total of 5lbs- so I am steadily loosing 1.25 lbs per week. It isn't speedy, but it's consistent, so I'll take it!

LOL- I have been around. I rarely post cause I figure no one is really all that interested in what I have to say!

I've talked to Leigh in the past about some of the difficulties for me with dieting- namely that I travel nearly every weekend, and while I *could* bring my own food, that would introduce a whole level of hassle that I am not willing to deal with. OPT is working out remarkably well for me. I keep waiting for the week when I don't loose- but so far things are going very well. I think I have finally found a strategy that works for me (after trying many others that didn't).
