6'3" 243 as of today. I hope it's ok if I join all of you. My buddies at the local watering hole think I'm trying to recruit them when I talk about my attempt at being healthier. I found this forum and everyone sounds pretty cool and supportive, so I hope you don't mind.
Too many beers in the past (probably a few in the future too). No excercise program or motivation (unless you call mowing the lawn and 12 ounce curls an exercise program). So I decided if I had to mow the lawn, it would be nice to take the shirt off and get some of the occasional sun our NW summers bring. Started November 22, 2008 cardio and some imprompto lifting. 6'3" 251 lbs. Once I saw that progress, not even really knowing what I was doing, I decided I'd reseasrch to find a program to follow and landed on the NROL. I had my 1st Break in on Tuesday and am going in for my 2nd this afternoon. Trying to change my eating habits and cutting back on the brewski's.
I look forward to getting to know you and sharing my progress and learnig about yours. That's all for now.
Welcome! I'm in Seattle, too. If your gym is anything like mine (Sound Mind and Body), you'll get a lot of weird looks doing NROL because it actually requires good, hard work! Congratulations on making this change in your life, and good luck!

Thanks Willie. I'm at the LA Fitness in Puyallup. Figured not too many people would know Puyallup, Seattle's close enough. The alternating sessions can be a bit tricky when it's busy. Anyhoo, Thanks again.
How is the LA Fitness? There is a new one opening in Ballard and I'm considering checking it out. Does it have everything you need for NROL? Squat racks? How much are the dues?

Welcome - I'm about 100 miles south, where the freeway occasionaly stops! If you have not been working out be prepared for your clothes and not your scale to mark much of your progress!
I know how to say Puyallup I live near Sumner. Some people I know use the LA Fitness in Puyallup and others in Federal Way. They seem to like it. Too far away for me though.
Welcome to the forum. I've done a bit of NROL myself (Fat Loss I, II, III and Hypertrophy I) - they're great programs but you really have to have your nutrition dialed in. Otherwise it's really easy to eat back the extra calories you burned off in trying to recover from the workout.
As for the beer, I'd say anyone who's read my log knows my relationship with beer. lol Sadly, it's not altogether consistent with a healthy lifestyle. But with moderation, it can be included.
Best of luck - will look forward to seeing your progress.

Willie, LA Fitness has EVERYTHING you need. It's a bit pricey. I pay 30 a month, but they change their rates weekly. I've seen it as low as 20. I know one of the instructers, so unfortunatly I hear all about the internal drama, that ruins it sometimes for me.
RobLL, are in you the Chehalis area? I went to High School there, wife went to Centralia. Dad in law lives in Adna.
Stingo, thanks for the advice. I'm soo sore right now and I have only done 1 week of Break in. I'm doing a bit more Cardio than what he wants, but I feel I need to because of my job in sales, sitting behind the wheel of my car most of the day. I'm really going to try to stick with his workouts at least through the fat loss one, and see what I think from there. To me it's important for me to be doing something since I've been such a lazy ass for the last 15 years. NROL seemed to be a program that would fit for many different types of goals. My Goals:
Get to 200 lbs
look better
feel better
get off my meds. (Blood Pressure/cholesterol)
kfisherx Portland rocks! I love hanging out done there! Thanks for everyones support. I look forward to sharing my experiences.

Reason: spelling
km - You nailed that, Chehalis it is. I suspect we can name any number of people we know in common. What year did you graduate from high school - I have kids who did from 89 to about 97 - ?
Yeah we have season tix. Were in sec 315 First row directly above the enemy's entrance. Do you tailgate before games? We are under the viaduct bright and early before every game. Man I miss football season already!
I'm about 15 yd line 20 rows up behind south end of Hawks Bench. I join a guy in our section in Diamond Parking next to viaduct. I'm a "Train Person" !
Workout 4 of Break In:
Deadlift 2 x 15 x 95 lbs
Step up 2 x 15 still at BW but moving to weight next time! Alternated with:
Dumbbell raise 2 x 15 X 30 lbs each arm
Close Grip Lat pulldown 2 x 15 x 95 lbs Alternated with:
Reverse Crunch 2 x 20
Once again felt obligated to 20 mins Treadmill.
I do want to say I had some great progress health wise. I saw the Doc yesterday and had the cholesterol checked. I decided to get healthy and started November 22, 2008. Cholesterol was at 230 with meds. Yesterday it was 174 with meds. 56 points! I couldn't believe it! I can't remember the last time I was below 200. He's cutting my blood pressure dosage in half and is going to adjust cholesterol if it checks good in another 3 months! Haven't checked weight. Waiting for February.
Dead Lift 2 X 15 @ 95lbs
Step up 2 X 15 @ 25 lbs Alternating with:
Dumbell one arm shoulder press 2 X 15 @ 30 lbs
Close Grip lat pull down 2 X 15 @ 100 lbs alternating with:
Crunch Machine 1 X 19 @ 130 lbs 1 x 13 @ 130 lbs
20 mins treadmill (had to make sure the new shoes were good)
Static Lunge 2 X 15 X 85 lbs Alternating with:
Two Point Dumbell Row 2 X 15 X 35
Push ups 2 x 15 X BW Alternating with:
Swiss Crunch 2 x 20
Well, one more work out and I'm off to FL 1. I'm excited, but it looks pretty brutal. I get to jump on the scale come Monday. I haven't weighed since I started NROL. Started at 243. We'll see.

From what I hear, FL is, indeed brutal. But your work in here has been great! And congrats on your health improvements!

Thanks for the assurance! Did you check out LA Fitness?
Nope, not yet. I still love my gym, and won't leave unless LA Fitness has all the Oly stuff. As yet, the actual building isn't done, so I don't know if they are even selling memberships yet.

Not quite what I was hoping for, but better than a poke in the eye.
I am noticing the clothes being extremely loose, so that's a good sign. People I haven't seen in a while have commented as well. So that's keeping me motivated. We'll see how FL 1 treats me. Goal is 200. Looking forward to breaking the 230 mark. I think I behaved pretty well over the Super Bowl. Did have a few beers, but most of the food was healthy. A lot of chicken breast and veges, chips and salsa too. Broke down and had a little cheese on some ritz, but I think that was probably the worst of it.

I'm sure they are, but if you're happy where you're at why change. LA fitness is the first real gym we've had out here. It's getting a lot busier now too.
Squat 1 x 15 x 95 lbs / 1 x 15 x 100 lbs / 1 x 15 x 105 lbs Had to see how my strength held up over the break.
Cable Seated Row 1 x 15 x 75 lbs / 2 x 15 x 90 lbs
Supine Hip Ext 3 x 15
Dumbell Push Press 1 x 15 x 30 lbs / 1 x 15 25 lbs / 1 x 12 x 25 lbs My left arm is so weenie!
Rotational lunge 1 x 15 x 25 lbs / 2 x 15 x 10 lbs I suck at lunges.
Substituded Standard Crunch for Swiss Crunch 2 x 15 / 1 x 11
It was good to lift again. A week seemed so long. I didn't even feel like going but I did and once I got going it was all good. Can't wait for workout B.
I thought I'd update a bit since I haven't posted for a while. I'm keeping my workouts in a log book now. I didn't feel it necessary to log it twice and everyone is always helpful when I have a question. So from now on, I'll just be posting a monthly result. I "officially" only weigh in once a month. Friday I'll be updating that. I continue to enjoy your posts and the other topics available on this site. Just didn't want anyone thinking I had quit. Actually amost finished with FL1 and working hard. Really seeing results in the mirror and in how the clothes are fitting. I try to only weigh once a month so not to get discouraged with the minor fluctuations. Thanks for your support. Ken.
