Hi bree....looking good in here!! You mentioned The Tudors in my log and didn't want you to miss my reply that the 2nd season is SOOOOOO good!!!!

Also, have fun at the holiday party. My company always had a "winter" party, which I really liked since not everyone celebrates Christmas or the holidays surrounding Christmas. It was also nice to have something in January to do. I'll bet you'll have a nice time! Of course, it's been a while since MY company has done anything like that for us!

Very cool that the trainer was using you as an example! (Though kind of crappy that people kept trying to take the weight off of your bars!) Nice workout as always!

Wow, Bree, another amazing workout! Don't sweat the inlaws - just try to enjoy their presence without overstressing the details. That's my mantra whenever my inlaws come. It's really hard, though.

How was the party?

Great workout! That's actually pretty cool that the trainer was using you as an example and teaching point.

Try to have fun at the holiday party tonight. You can't beat a free meal!
I know I should be grateful, even though I just looked at the menu online and it looks quite boring. Its like basic meat dishes with sides of red potatoes and veggies. I was hoping for something a bit more exotic!

That's funny that they go buy their own food! Mine usually hate my food, but FIL just found out he has high cholesterol and triglycerides, so my MIL is tryiing to cook healthier and admitted to me she has no idea how to. They are everything-cooked-in-butter, deep-fried, topped-with-some-kind-of-cream people. You know, straight from the farm kind of stick to your ribs meals. I took out my Eat Clean cookbook I got for xmas for her to look at today. She is a good cook, she just needs to learn to make the right substitutions.

I never thought of that! No, we usually do it in December but my boss was in Germany vactioning. Some people are recession proof.

Hi Jane! I saw that in you log. I am so mad at Netflix! It said it should have arrive yesterday, so I reported a problem so hopefully I will get my replacement disc soon. I can't stand waiting!

I am pretty lucky here at my job. My boss is very generous and considers us family. So I try to remind myself that when I am having a bad day.

Thanks Kara! Yeah - I am very skeptical about all the trainers there but it was kind of cool to be an example!

Thanks Pauline! I know, I feel guilty about complaining about them so much. They are wonderful people and we always have a great time when they visit. My MIL makes me nervous sometimes because she is very opinionated and likes to gossip, so I always wonder what she says about me. I wanted to be perfect and worthy of her son, so I used to tip toe around her more, but I stopped doing that and just try to by myself. If she finds a few dirty spots in my microwave she will just have to deal with it!

I forgot to share something that happened yesterday. For birthdays at work, the whole office always pitches in and gets an ice cream cake or some other rediculous dessert. So the girl that organizes asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I said "I don't know, we don't need to get anything since it falls on a weekend." She said "well you may not want it but we do!" So I said "you can pick it out then, it doesn't matter to me!" And then she started in on calling me skinny and how I can have cake because I am so small.

I just hate when people say stuff like that because in my mind I am not skinny (what is skinny? and is that what I want for that matter?) and eating a 700 calorie piece of cake (I looked it up once) is not going to help me reach my goals! So something interrupted us and it got dropped. I am hoping it doesn't come up again and she will just get the usual cake like I said to, and I can choose not to have a piece if I don't want to.

Sounds like she was just looking for an excuse to eat cake!!!

Hi Breeeeee! I am so behind in here. LOL at the skinny comments. I love the dolts out there who say this kind of crap and have no idea, the sweat and effort that we put into possibly looking like we might need cake. If you put me up against everyone (minus 1 chick) in my office, I might actually look like I need a piece of cake, LOL.

Sorry, cake rant over.
Things are looking good in here. Good for you on breaking out the cookbook for MIL. That is a good one and if anything, she can get a feel for some decent substitutions, too.
You are rocking it as usual.

Catching up...your workouts are looking great! WTF with people taking off your weights while you're standing right there? Like I said in another thread--people are dumb!

Hey, Bree! My co-workers are nice enough to provide a huge fruit salad (just fruit) for the birthdays of those of us who don't prefer cake. I love it because I can enjoy the celebration without thinking about it! I wish all co-workers were as thougtful!

What a great idea, Pauline!

Hang in there with the dolts at the gym and the in-laws LOL!

Wow, lots going on here since I last stopped by. First - yay on getting the oven fixed. I notice that I tend to use the toaster/convection oven a lot, but I couldn't survive without my big oven. And how nice to be used as an example of a good squat. The dolts and the in-laws... well, good luck with that.

The party was alright. Nothing too crazy. Yeah I am sure the cake thing will come up again today. Her "healthy" suggestion was a fruit torte...now I suppose that's better, but still missing the point.

Thanks Ginger! I had no idea people think I need cake. I really think I do not need cake at this point. All I need to do is look down at my thighs to be reminded of that, lol. The whole thing is just another obstacle we all face on this journey. Doing the right thing without "peer pressure" is hard enough!

I hope my MIL finds some good things to make. She did act like it was armageddon that they had to start eating differently. They are not overweight, but it just goes to show that you can be normal sized and unhealthy.

That's a great idea! I wish mine were more supportive and/or understanding.

Thanks Lori and Anne. Yes the oven is great! Even though my cooking skillz are limited, I definitely missed it.

The in-laws were tolerable. They stayed at our house Friday night too, but were gone early Saturday before I even got up. They are at my BIL now for the rest of the time.

Wow - I have so much to log....

Friday the work party was meh. It started at 5:30 and I didn't leave there until 10 after the comedians. It just got long - and I hate the dinner thing because you only talk to the people you sit next to. Anyway, the dinner was acutally pretty good. I had a side salad and my entree was glazed pork chops with steamed veggies. There were a ton of veggies! I ate them all and 1.5 of the two pork chops. I didn't have any of the appetizers or bread. I had two glasses of wine and a ton of water - I felt bad for our server she was constantly filling my glass! I am pretty confident I stayed right around maintenance calories. After the dinner we saw 3 comdedians. It was pretty funny. The headliner was a guy from the show Last Comic Standing. I have never watched it but he was pretty good.

First Saturdays killer workout:

NROL Fat Loss III A4
Deadlift:
10 x 115

Explosive push up: (this wasn't really all that explosive)
10 x BW

Bulgarian Split Squat:
10 x 25's - what color do you use for going back down I forgot I had done 30's the previous time

Two Point DB Row:
10 x 25's

Giant set with no rest, 2 times through:

Deadlift from box:
20 x 85

DB Bench Press:
20 x 20's
20 x 22's (added wrist weights for one set)

Walking Lunge w/side bend:
20 x 10's - STILL HATE!

Cable Seated Row: (subbed BO DB row at home)
20 x 15's

And abs at the end, normal set subbed prone jackknife)
Hanging Leg Raise
2 x 10 x BW

Wow - this totally killed me. I was dreading it when I woke up and even considered skipping it. Gasp! But I did it anyway, even though it was a struggle. I was so beat the entire time. After the first set of deadlifts I knew I was in trouble!

After this we went to Mall of America and did some shopping. Always adds in some nice NEAT since once aroudn the thing is a half mile.

Also randomly on Saturday, some of my DH's friends called us at NOON to tell us they were at a bar near our house drinking. There was some kind of charity raffle/snow golf event. So we stopped by there on our way home from shopping for a beer. Well this turned into all of them coming to OUR house! Luckily they all left by 10 since their not so happy wives came to pick them up! So I had a few more calories then planned, but I think still around maintenance.

Sunday:

Did an hour on the treadmill - running for 32 minutes, walking for 28.
Went home and cleaned the house and did laundry - lots of NEAT. Then we went to Costco and made some delicious BBQ chicken pizza. I bought pre-made dough from Trader Joes, chicken breast tossed in BBQ sauce, red onion, green onion, and cheese. All around fairly healthy - but I was starving and may have eaten more then I should have. I hadn't eaten much previous to this so I think it was okay.

I know its only Monday but I am looking forward to next weekend! Friday its either my brothers game or DH's game, Saturday another game of my brothers, then we are meeting friends for drinks for my birthday, then Sunday we are going to whoop it up for Super Bowl and my actual birthday. I want to keep it in moderation, but we are already planning some delicious food and drinks. I am trying to convince myself to let it be a fun day and not worry. Usually I don't do as bad as I think. And hey, you only turn 27 once, right? Ha ha

I am going to step it up this week in preparation for the weekend. And I will mostly likely be taking pics and stats BEFORE Monday!

Wow, Bree, you have been busy! I'm glad the in-laws' visit went ok, and sounds like you did okay with the rest of the weekend even though there were lots of social opportunities. Killer workout, again!

Me too! My dh has a cold, so I am doubly glad he got to get some sleep and avoid drinking too much! I am sure I mentioned before how our friends still like to party like they are in college.

Hi Celeste - thanks! Yeah for not having kids and my job not being super demanding right now, I still have a hard time finding a free moment! I am in for it when I actually have those things!

Scale is playing strange tricks on me. Saturday after my work dinner I was at 141 which is fine. I have been bouncing between 140-141.5 or so for the past week. Frustrating, but at least not going up? Tonight my tanita gave me an all time body fat low reading at 54% water, but at 141.5. Sooo I am retaining water? I am losing fat? I have no idea how to read it. I was hoping to break into the 130's before the next check in. The timing of this thing sucks because I retian lots of water the week before t.t.o.m. which is this week, so its hard to make sense of it all. Bleh.

Oh yeah my workout tonight:

My treadmill interval workout
warm up 5 minutes @ 5.5 mph
1 min @ 8.2, 2 min @ 5.5 repeat 7 times
cool down 8 minutes @ 5.5
walk 8 minutes
total 40 minutes

My heart rate monitor wasn't positioned right so it was acting funny so for the first 6 minutes I was dead according to it.

Tonight I made a random dinner, too. I took a La Tortilla factory tortilla and filled it with cooked spinach, chicken breast, and queso blanco, then baked it to melt the cheese. Then I dipped it in some walden farms honey mustard. I really like the La Tortilla Factory tortillas! I am glad I bought them.

I have also been writing down some goals and affirmations based on what I have been reading in Tom Venuto's book "Body Fat Solution"

Its weird to write those things down since I would hate for someone to find them....just personal I guess. Anyway, I am hoping the mental aspect of all this will continue to progress for me.

That dinner sounds great.

I understand how you feel about writing affirmations. I don't want people to read them either since they are so personal. That book is sounding more and more like I need to buy it.

Oh, and sorry your husband is sick and hope he recovers quickly.

Nice workout, and glad you weren't REALLY dead for those first 6 minutes!

I remember the days of getting to the bar around noon--just in time for the early happy hour! Too funny that they all ended up at your house.

The work party doesn't sound horrible. Which guy from Last Comic Standing? The guy that won a few years back, Josh Blue (the one with Cerebral Palsy), was my ex-boyfriend's neighbor. I think I miss seeing him daily more than my ex...he's so much fun!

Bree! I must have hit the same part in the book last night! I am feeling a new sense of mental game, so to speak and it is all things I needed to hear right now. It is good stuff. I haven't officially started writing anything down yet, but just finished the chapter talking about goals and how to word them. If I had a highlighter with me - there would have been some serious color added to those pages. I see me referencing that in the future. I am so glad I saw that you were reading it and went ahead and ordered it.

I am also going to eat on Sunday and am revving up for it.

Looking good, girlfriend.

I forgot to comment on a couple of things. One, that tortilla description made my mouth water. If I only had some damn spinach in the house! I am making one of my famous dips on Sunday that has it in there, but that is the only healthy part of it. It is so good! What are you making?
And I am also planning on getting my pictures in before Monday morning bloat, that I am sure I will be dealing with.
That's it. Carry on.

Oh, and sorry your husband is sick and hope he recovers quickly.
Thanks Karen! I am trying to cook more. It really comes down to if I have thawed meat on hand. We have a freezer full, but the planning ahead to take it out in the morning is what I forget most!

Oh and the husband is fine. He is kind of a baby about being sick. I think most men are

Hi Pauline! I always learn better when I write stuff down. Even in college I would copy down text just to learn it better. For some reason just highlighting didn't stick with me.

Nice workout, and glad you weren't REALLY dead for those first 6 minutes!
Me too! I know Bytsi, Its frustrating. I am starting to understand more and more each day how difficult this process is. Especially when I think I mess up and see no change or a loss!

Hi Christina! Them ending up at my house was pretty typical of the randomness that they can be sometimes.

The headliner's name was Pete Lee. The only reason I remember is because he made a lot of jokes about his name. There was a guest appearance by Arj Barker from Flight of the Concords, too. He was pretty good.

Thanks Ginger! I am happy that you are finding the material as helpful as I am. The goals chapter may be one I need to read a couple times. I have been reading alot of the book on the treadmill, but don't feel like I am able to focus on what is being said, so I need to take some quiet time to really get into it. That is what I started doing with writing the goals down.

I am so excited for the weekend! I think I am getting to a place where I am going to relax about everything for a day and just have fun. I might take pictures tomorrow actually. Cutting myself short but that might be the only time I will get to with all the stuff I have going on this weekend!

So far I am planning on making chili since I have been craving it lately. I use this recipe with some modifications - basically making it hotter and I use ground chicken intead. Mostly because I need a break from ground turkey since I overdid it a few months ago.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/r...ipe/index.html

Then since its my husbands favorite, hot wing buffalo dip. And he makes a mean spinach dip that I am going to try to talk him into making. We also bought some snack type things at costco over the weekend. Its gonna be fun!

So I have to get on my soapbox here for something not fitness related. I have been seeing previews and ads for a new movie coming out called "New in Town". It stars lead squinter Renee Zellweger and is about her character coming to New Ulm, MN for work.

Okay just so you all know, not all of us talk like that! Its a horrible imitation of our accent. I will admit, there are some dontchaknow type talkers around, but not that bad. Also we are not all small backwoods people who are scared of "big city folk." I am the first one to make fun of myself, but it doesn't even seem remotely close to accurate. Nice try hollywood.

That is all.

Oh yeah - my workout!

Tuesday
NROL Fat Loss III, B5

Giant Set with no rest, 4 times

Front Squat:
3 sets of 10 x 75
1 set of 10 x 85

Underhand grip lat pulldown:
10 x 85

Step Up: (bench at knee height)
10 x 20's

DB Push Press:
10 x 25's - most for this stage, not an overall PR

Giant set with no rest, 2 times through:

Back Squat
20 x 75

Wide Grip Lat Pulldown
20 x 65

Step Up:
20 x 15's

DB shoulder press:
20 x 15's

Swiss ball crunch
2 x 10 x 4# medicine ball, slow count 2 up and 2 down

As predicted I was spent. I walked on the treadmill for a little while afterwards. Heart rate monitor said I burned 567 calories for 52 minutes. My average was 151 and my high was 180.

I almost threw a dumbbell at this guy, too. I was standing not in the way of anyone doing the DB push presses. Okay as I was in the middle of hoisting the heavy weight above my head - dude says "can you move over a little?" So he could get to his bench which he could have easily without me moving. Who does that when someone is in the middle of a lift? He then proceeded to sit on the bench for another minute before actually doing anything. Oh did I give him a dirty look. I almost said something about how what I was doing was difficult and asking someone to move while in the middle of a lift is rude and un-safe. Next time I will throw my 25's at him.

Last night I made another taco salad with lean beef. They had 95% lean at the fancy grocery store I stopped at. (Byerly's for those who know)I was a little dissapointed with myself thoug because I measured in too much beef and was about 200 cals over my goal. Still under maintenance, but still. I was mad at myself. I also have had the strongest thirst! I had 5 liters of water yesterday. Not to mention whatever I drank overnight.

And I finally got to watch the Tudors!!!!! I did a lot of foam rolling and stretching during it.

Oh my goodness, that's really rude! I think I'd have said something--I sometimes have a hard time keeping my mouth shut.

I'm making chili too for Sunday. I thought I'd use a mix of ground turkey and lean beef. And, of course, make it hotter. I can't decide if I should make cornbread too or not. I know my sister will eat it with me if I make it.

What is up with rude people at your gym? I swear, people have such air of entitlement to them these days and it's pissing me off!
