Drink more water! I know that when it's cold and dry here, I hold onto more water (and my skin gets even more dry than normal). It's super frustrating, but, like you said, it' not fat.

X2 - you know it's not fat, so just keep doing everything right and it'll all fall into place.

X3!! That damn sodium gets me every time! Extra water, give it a couple days, and you will more than likely be LOWER than you were!!!
I'm opposite on the water retention. When it's hot and humid out, I totally hold on too water. If I walk outside in that type of weather, my finger end up looking like sausages.
I agree. You know it's just water, but it can freak you out anyway. You're doing all the right things, it just takes patience. For comparison, I drink at LEAST 12 glasses of water a day, usually more. And if I eat something high in sodium, I end up drinking lots more for a few days. Maybe you already do that though...just wait a few days.

Hahaha, me, too--every summer I swell up and retain water. Not just in the fingers, but in my knees so it really hurts to bend them.
Bree, I hope you've got it somewhat straightened/figured out now.
Thanks everyone. As you all know, its just frustrating when you are doing everything right to see the scale move. Luckily it was back down yesterday. I am hoping this week is the one to bust into the 130's.
This is a quick post because I am off to make some dinner....
Saturday:
Front Squat:
10 x 75
Underhand grip lat pulldown:
10 x 85
Step Up: (bench at knee height)
10 x 20's
DB Push Press:
10 x 25's *up from last time
Giant set with no rest, 2 times through:
Back Squat
20 x 75
Wide Grip Lat Pulldown
20 x 65
Step Up:
20 x 15's
DB shoulder press:
20 x 15's
Swiss ball crunch
2 x 10 x 4# medicine ball, slow count 2 up and 2 down
I hadn't eaten much before this, and was totally beat afterwards! I felt weak.
Today:
20 minutes jog, 40 minute walk on the treadmill
I also shoveled the driveway, but its snowing now again so my efforts were fruitless.
I have been working hard on food this weekend. The weekends are my biggest challenge and so far I think I have been doing well!
I am going to make some steak pitas for dinner. All healthy stuff.
Mmm, steak pitas sound good! I know I get dehydrated in the winter really easily. When I drink water it makes me cold and I hate it! I started getting plain water out of the hot side of the water cooler at work. People thought it was weird but it kept me warm.
I'm kind of sorry I finished up the leftover steak. Pitas sound good. I think the next time I'm low on tortillas I'm going to check out the pitas in the store.

Hey everyone! We ended up making the pitas tonight instead. I just wasn't that hungry last night so figured why force it?
Basically it was some lean angus beef from TJ's, bell peppers, red onion, spinach all cooked in a lil olive oil and stuffed in the pita with some queso blanco. Then I broiled them (my bake still doesn't work - someone is coming to fix the oven on Wednesday finally!) to melt the cheese. I think I overestimated my olive oil, but it ended up being a pretty decent little meal. We got the queso blanco at Costco this past weekend and I thought it would melt nice in there. It probably would have melted better if I would have been able to bake them not broil!
I found out one of my co-workers is pregnant! So exciting. We are pretty close so it will be so fun to be with her every day during this awesome time. It made my day thats for sure.
I had a great interval session at the gym. I felt energized and like I could have done more, but didn't because that has been the case on Mondays lately since I do easy cardio on Sundays. By the time Thursdays lift rolls around I am dead!
Tonight:
5 min warm up @ 5.5 (I always do .5 incline)
1 min @ 8 mph
2 min @ 5.5
1 min @ 8.2, 2 min @ 5.5
1 min @ 8.5
8 min cool down @ 5.5
8 min walk @ 3.8
Total 40 minutes. HR monitor sez 399 calories burned.
Scale - meh. I went back down after the two pounds last week, but I think the couple beers I had yesterday during football are hangin around.
I really need to track my weight and body water percentage against my bcp's. I notice a definite trend in water retension/bloating during the middle of the pack vs. the beginning and end. I will start it tomorrow I think. Just to help me get some peace of mind and to hopefully know what to expect.
Bree--great workouts, as always! How cool about your co-worker being pregnant. It's lots of fun to have friend support.
Thanks Celeste!
I am all kinds of sore today from this:
Tuesday:
NROL Fat Loss III A4 (only two left!)
Deadlift:
10 x 115
Explosive push up: (this wasn't really all that explosive)
10 x BW
Bulgarian Split Squat:
10 x 30's - most for this stage
Two Point DB Row:
10 x 25's
Giant set with no rest, 2 times through:
Deadlift from box:
20 x 85 - got some funny looks setting up the step!
DB Bench Press:
20 x 45 - did one set regular bench since two dudes set their 100# dumbbells on the free weight benches to hold them or something
20 x 20's
Walking Lunge w/side bend:
20 x 10's - HATE!
Cable Seated Row:
20 x 45 - this seemed to easy, but the next step up is 60# and I don't think I can do that for 20 reps
And abs at the end, normal set:
Hanging Leg Raise
2 x 10 x BW
This does not get easier! I think going up in the BSS's affected my deadlifts. I miss doing big deadlifts! (big for me) I can't wait to start pushing above 135 again.
I also realized I am slacking on working on my chin-up goal. I need to figure out how to incorporate that soon.
Couple things from yesterday:
1. We watched the inauguration at work - it was pretty cool to see. I don't remember ever seeing one before live or really caring all that much.
2. I found out a girl I went to high school with who was also a neighbor growing up died yesterday. I guess it was a car accident but I don't know any more details. I hardly knew her and was better friends with her brother, but it just got to me. I felt bad for not getting to know her better. And I felt bad because she was someone who got picked on a lot in school - especially by her brother and his friends aka my classmates. I am sure she got over all that, but you never know.
3. Weight is still holding on at 140. Grrrrrr.
I am working from home this morning because we finally got someone to come fix our oven! its awesome because they gave me the "window" of time. They might be here anytime between 8-12. Nice. I really hope its nothing major. It already cost a bundle for them to even come out.
How fun! A pregnant coworker. My former coworker (aka my ex office husband) and his wife had a baby the middle of December (he was due Jan 20). They got to take the baby home not too long ago. I've been so excited for them and looking at all the baby pics online. This weekend, I finally get to meet him. I can't wait. Babies are so much fun.
I find that I'm so much like you. This was the first inauguration that I've ever watched or cared about. In fact, I got a little teary-eyed during part of it. Oh, and I hate lunges too, especially when they involve any kind of twist or bend.
We did the inauguration watching yesterday, too. I made the kids sit down for about an hour of it and, today, we're covering inauguration history. Fun stuff.
Bree--sorry to hear about your old neighbor's death. I understand how something like that can get to you. We've had a couple deaths close-but-not-too-close recently, and things like that just hit you in different ways.
Hope the oven repair isn't too costly. I just love those "windows" of time they give. Could they be a little more specific, maybe???
Thanks! To top it off - another co-worker told his his wife is also pregnant and they are due the same week!
Oh and the oven went well. It was what I expected, but there is no way we could have fixed it on our own.

I know - so many around me lately! I don't mind lunges but doing 20 a leg gets a little monotonous/stabby.

Thanks Ginger! I am still sore from that workout. Inner thigh and butt areas. Its a good sore!
Well the repair was $99 just for them to come to the house for the first 30 minutes, luckily the part wasn't too expensive and it only took him about 20 minutes. Still sucked to pay for it.

Thanks Kara! I think when people who are our age pass away suddenly its hard. I still feel too young for it to be normal.

Sorry about the not-quite classmate's death.
Cool! I hope all kids get a chance to learn about the importance of this time. When I was in high school the only time government was talked about was in civics class and that class was so boring I wanted to eat my shoe. I am sure you will have a much more entertaining way of teaching it!

Yeah it was weird. Its hard when you know the family. Its harder now because at first we heard it was a car accident, but now we are hearing its alcohol related and may have been an overdose/asphyxiation. Its unfortunate all around, but when alcohol is involved there is always a stigma and seems to be less compassion for the family, even though it was still an accident.
Anyway, on to lighter news.
I ran outside last night! WHOO HOO It was a balmy 27 degrees. I ran about a ten minute mile for 3.2 miles despite running on packed and some times loosely packed snow. I felt great and felt like I am so much more fit. If it wasn't for the snow I know my time would have been way faster. It was nice to get outside and feel like I was actually going somewhere rather then on the silly treadmill.
Also, it was so funny....I was running down a residential street towards the end of the run and this old guy was out sweeping his driveway. (I have no idea why he was sweeping) Anyway, he looked up as I came by so I smiled and he said "Looking good!!!" really loud. It was so cute. It wasn't creepy, just old guy cute. It made me smile
Also, beisdes meandering through Target for an hour (aka $70 later) I didn't get much NEAT in because of LOST!!!!! That show is insane.

I did my dreaded cardio outside yesterday also--the snow made it more challenging to keep any sort of speed going, but at least there was fresh air! It felt really good.
Also, although I don't get a chance to post in here very often, I wanted to say it looks like you are doing great as always and also sorry to hear about your neighbor...stuff like that can get very complicated very quickly, so I feel for the family.

Bree, you made me feel like such a wimp! Anything under 37 degrees and I won't do my cardio outside (except, of course, for snowboarding). It makes my lungs hurt just thinking about it.
"As far as (healthy) eating, either do it, or don't. Same issues repeated over and over is just insanity. We either commit to the endeavor or pay lip-service to it. This is the hardest part of the whole process, and it needs to be practiced more than the actual physical training. It's mind training." ~ Matt Thorne
"The reason that most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want most for what they want at the moment."
I guess I'm in the minority in that I actually prefer running on the treadmill LOL... glad getting outside made you happy though!
Which is still better than being in the minority like me who prefer not to run outside or on the treadmill unless something scary is chasing me :P. No problems with cardio/exercise in general, but I need something softer than pavement to run on.

Thanks! I probably would have run outside last night too if it wasn't a lifting day. Yeah the friend is tough. My parents are going to the funeral tomorrow. Our families have known each other for a long time through hockey and then we became neighbors in middle school. I have been praying for the family.

Aww you aren't a wimp! My threshold for running outdoors in high school was the teens. My parents thought I was crazy - I was though.

I don't mind the treadmill, but I grew up doing a lot of running so I prefer the outdoors. It felt good to be in the sunshine for once!

You guys are not alone! I know lots of people who don't like to run. And a lot that its hard on them. What is interesting is if I hadn't run in a while my knees would get a little sore when I weighed more....the other night that didn't happen at all. Its amazing what a few pounds can do.
Surprise! Guess who is at my house as we speak? My in-laws! Yep nothing like a one day notice. Thanks for calling! They originally planned at staying at my BIL who lives here also (the one that just ahd a baby) but my BIL had that nasty stomach flu that is going around so they choose to stay at our house. I don't blame them and I told them I hope they stay with us rather then going there to a house of sick people and spreading it around even more! (I am kind of a germophobe if you hadn't picked up on that yet)
I was kind of looking forward to a weekend with nothing much planned except my work holiday party tonight (bleh) and just chillin with DH tomorrow. Just kidding! Now I get to entertain! Oh and the best part is they don't know how long they are staying. I know its my own problem for being such a planner, but one day notice didn't leave me much time to get the house ready i.e. sheets, towels, food, cleaning etc. And not knowing how long they are staying I have no idea what meals I will be in charge of. Grrrrr.
Oh workout, at least you always make me happy:
NROL Fat Loss III, B3
Front Squat:
10 x 75 - Okay this is now a PR. I reported it wrong last time - I only did 70 last time. Wish I could go back and fix it.
Underhand grip lat pulldown:
10 x 85
Step Up: (bench at knee height)
10 x 20's
DB Push Press:
10 x 20's (did extra set waiting for my squat rack one of the rounds)
Giant set with no rest, 2 times through:
Back Squat
20 x 75 (went up from last workout)
Wide Grip Lat Pulldown
20 x 65
Step Up:
20 x 15's
DB shoulder press:
20 x 15's
Swiss ball crunch
2 x 10 x 4# medicine ball, slow count 2 up and 2 down
A few notes:
1. I was a sweaty mess at the end of this.
2. While doing my front squats I came back to the rack and a trainer was taking my weight off to show a woman how to squat. I asked politily if we could work together. And he was all "oh were you using this?" Umm yeah, since I was standing right here I was jerk. So anyway they take forreeeeevvvvver to do one set. (I was thrilled to see a trainer using the actual squat rack instead of the smith machine though) So I hopped in and did my front squat and he started teaching her about it from me, saying things about the front squat vs. the back squat. It was weird having them stare at me, but I guess I was doing it right!
3. As they pretty much had taken over that squat rack, I saw a different one open so I hopped on that one to finish out the workout. And again, some dude comes over and starts taking my weight off - I was right there! Do they just not think that me, being a girl, would be using the squat rack? Well the guy ended up being nice from talking to him a bit and he just need the bar to do lunges....so he found a different bar from an incline bench that wasn't being used and hoisted it up over his head and onto his back with ease. I kind of wondered if maybe he shouldn't have been using more weight then 45#'s the way he threw that thing around. Oh well. None of my biznass.
4. I haven't felt a burn in my quads like I did last night in a long time!
We have our work "holiday" party tonight. I am not excited one bit to go. My DH can never come to them because he always has basketball games so I am always playing the single gal. The other thing that sucks is I have to miss my bro's hockey game. My parents are coming for it and I love going to them. The one good thing is that since I have to drive myself I won't be tempted to drink much. And since the boss pays for our meal I can choose something healthy even if it is expensive
So, I have to just laugh about your in laws. My parents are the same way. I usually have a day or two notice when they're coming and never know when they're leaving. Luckily I don't have to worry about food for them though because the first thing they do is go to the store to get stuff they like (as opposed to my healthy crap).
Great workout! That's actually pretty cool that the trainer was using you as an example and teaching point.
Try to have fun at the holiday party tonight. You can't beat a free meal!
