Usually at night for me too - I have been taking my codeine 'tussin at night and it seems to keep me quiet. Today has been better!

I hope the lb stays away. I have been doing so much better with food/temptations lately.

I decided to not drink diet coke/diet soda anymore either. I used to be addicted, then was having about one a day, and lately it was just out of boredom at work. I don't even really like it that much anymore, so why bother? I just need to divert my boredom/need for a pick me up elsewhere at work when I would otherwise turn to a soda.

Not saying I will never ever drink pop again, I am just not going to go out of my way to drink it. It seems to set off cravings for sweets for me and if that can go away, all the better.

Tuesday:

3+ mile run (really need to map this route out!), 32 minutes, followed by a 15 minute walk.

Felt great to run again. Coughed a little, hard to breathe mostly from my nose congestion, not my lungs. It was a nice night though. Sunny, 50's, leaves all around. Not many of those days left.

In other news, holy soreness! The DOMS from Monday is killing me! I tried to foam roll last night but it wasn't even a hurts so good kind of pain, it was not good in any way. I need to go to the gym two more times by Sunday for my health insurance discount and am trying to decide what to do. I am way too sore to lift today, but don't know if I am up for any treadmill intervals yet, and I think its supposed to rain. Normally I will run inthe rain, but the sickness thing is preventing me. Hmmmm.

Yay for giving up soda! It's bad on so many levels. I had a similar problem with coffee once I started cutting down, I realized I was drinking it because I was bored. If you have a microwave at work, try some hot teas. There's so many marvelous varieties, and they are very satisfying.

Thanks! I am still drinking my morning coffee. Not sure if I will ever give that up (save for pregnancy of course) but for now its comforting, and I look forward to it!

I went most of my first 20 years not drinking hardly any soda at all. It wasn't that my parents banned us from it, it just wasn't something I wanted ever. The Hi-C Ecto Cooler juice box was way more appealing.

When I started working in the restaurant biz, I started sipping on Diet Coke because it was free and it was there, and started an addiction. Lately when I have it, it just doesn't do much for me anymore. I am sure I will still have soda every now and then, but I feel good about starting to recognize why I eat/drink things I do, and realizing that its usually out of boredom and habit and not necessarily need.

I need to get back into exploring the teas. I think I need to suck it up and head to Teavana and get some good stuff.

So...back to my jury duty story. I got called in at 12:15 to be there by 1:30 so I basically had to drop everything at work and run out the door, find parking downtown etc. When I got there, one of my good friends who also got summons at the same time (WEIRD coincidence) was already there. She showed me the ropes, and then headed to her back to her case which was going through jury selection. Soon after, I got called to go up for a case. We went into the courtroom and the judge went over a bunch of legal stuff and started questioning us. The defendant was in the room and looked REALLY nervous. After a bunch of questions, we got a break and when we finally got to return, the defendant and the lawyers were gone.

Apparently the defendant decided to enter a guilty plea. Judge said sometimes once the defendants see the jury, they get nervous and realize they can't go through with it all. Sooo, I got to go home and not I don't have to call back until Monday.

What was most interesting to me, is that when all the jurors talked about their background, only one out of the 12 had a two year degree and the rest had bachelors or higher. Half had their masters in something, there was one lawyer in the group too. We were all white and I would say most were upper middle class. Interesting for a supposedly random sampling of citizens.

Long story short, my gym problem was solved because the friend who was also at jury duty and I met another friend for happy hour and I didn't work out at all! Sinner! I figure its not the end of the world since I am still sorta coughing and really sore from Monday....right? Right????

I am going tonight for sure though!

Hockey season started! Well for my brothers team anyway. They had a great weekend starting 2-0 and beat the national runner-up from last year handily. My bro also had an assist and a goal to start off the season. I love it

What I don't love is the time change. I HATE the dark nights. There was this thing invented not long ago called the LIGHT BULB...so we can now see things in the dark in the mornings! Amazing.

But seriously, it really got me down the past two days. Mostly because it means an end to my outdoor running unless I get home from work extra early. Boo.

Activity re-cap...

Sunday:

Spent 3 hours raking and bagging leaves. Good NEAT day.

Monday:

made up workout 'A'
warm up stuff

front squat:
6 x 65
6 x 75
6 x 75
6 x 85

Lunge
3 x 6 x 75
6 x 85

push up with legs on swiss ball ( I really like these)
4 x 10 x BW

cable row
4 x 6 x 75

planks
2 x 1 min

-20 minute jog

x2!

I hate the time change... Although, honestly, I do NOT CARE which time we stay on, dark, light, whatever... I'll adjust... If we would just PICK ONE and stop going back and forth. It wreaks havoc with my system and I always feel like crap - even when we "gain" an hour... can't we just pick one and stay there all year?!?!?!?

Hey, it also means that I was driving into the sun this morning... and it's 5:30 and pretty close to dark out. I'm not going to love this on Thursday night. Oh well, can't really do much about it, but love complaining about it.

I hear ya on the running outdoors dilemma brought on by the time change. What also sucks is that when I get out there to do my early morning run on Sunday, it gets light more quickly, which means it's fiercely hot at 7 AM. The time change is one of the worst things, ever.

Hot? I don't know what that is I was going to run outside last night since I got home in time, but it was raining and windy. I am going to try again tonight.

Hooray! My first spam. All growned up! I have actualyl only eaten Spam twice in my life...both times were at Costco on sample day. I am not sure why they sample Spam, but hey, it gave me a reason to say I have tried it.

Welp, my attempt to run outside was foiled by driving rain and wind. I will suck it up in the snow, but the soaking rain is a bit much to handle just yet. I lugged it to the gym instead, and hope to get home in time to beat the sunset for a dryer run this evening.

Tuesday:
intervals on dreadmill

5 min warm up @ 5.5mph
7x 1 min @ 8.6, 2 min @ 5.5
8 min cool down
8 minute walk

Okay this pretty much killed me. I was dead! Haven't done it in almost a month, so I was expecting it to be hard.

I have been toying around with the idea to bring my running clothes with me to work, and run here before driving home. If I start running here around 3:30-4, I will have daylight until 5 and should be able to get a decent run in. Problem is, that means my commute will be hell...but then I would be done with my workout. Dilemmas!

Speaking of running clothes, it might be time to invest in actual winter running gear. I have tights from high school - they might fit? Otheriwse I have been wearing cotton pants and shirts and an old stocking cap. I heard they have all this fancy winter gear these days at the sportin' goods stores. Might have to get down there and check it out

Bring your pocketbook with ya!!! Actually, it's not tooooo bad (if it works!) - I found some winter running stuff on sale at Dick's Sporting Goods from Reebok - they were like $30 for the pants, and $20 for the shirts......

And I HATE this "dark at 5pm crap" too!

I have been such a bad jp-er lately. I feel so behind with everyone's logs! I keep adding more and more internet stuff I do each day and well, I need more hours, or no job...either one. I started dabbling in learning Adobe Illustrator again, I have been checking out the body by eats forum, and my google reader is always full of new blog posts that I keep adding too. Too much interwebz...so little time!

Activity time.

Monday
4 mile run, 36:20 (2 mile split 18:12)

200 swings challenge
3 x 50 x 20# two handed
1 x 25ea x 10# one handed

I am going to look into buying an actual kettlebell tonight - I am thinking something around 20#'s. I need to go up on my one handed swings because 10 is way too easy.

Going to try to run outside again tonight. Trying to get out as long as the weather cooperates and I get home from work early enough for daylight, so my lifting might be more sporatic while I milk as much of this fall as I can.

Hi Bree! I only have one KB and it is a 20#. I had asked for a 25#, but they were sold out - gift from Hubby. Anyways, I love the 20. That is all.

So I started reading your blog on a "tiny" little break early this afternoon, then started following links and more links and gah! It's now 9:20 p.m. I so got sucked into food blogs and it's all your fault. Hrmph.

(Okay, so I did take a few breaks to run around the house to pee, clean, and cook when necessary but, other than that, I have been worthless.)

Hi! I think I want a 20#, too. Right now 20 is what I am doing for the two handed swings.

Linky McLink! Well, I am glad you found it worth your time. I have been totally sucked into food blog world. I just keep adding more and more and more to my reader! Last week I found a local one that posts links to other local foodie blogs about twice a day. HALP.

Tuesday:
3.1 mile run, 26:56

so, I went to the lake thinking the loop around it was 3.2. I went home and measured it on map my run and got 3.1. I was all excited that I did a 5k in under 27 minutes. Almost. The run felt great though.

I kind of got the urge to want to do an actual race sometime. Too bad the season is winding down around here. Orginally I thought about doing one in DH's hometown since we were going to be there for Thanksgiving, but now we aren't and will probably be in the car during the local Turkey Trot.

200 swings challenge
4 x 50 x 20#, two handed

I have a Target gift card that I was going to use to buy a kettlebell, but it was $50! Hmmph. I can't justify spending that much on one piece of equipment right now. I know I can find them cheaper elsewhere but that defeats the purpose of using the gift card towards something I want. Oh wells.

Good job on the run. And if you're itching for races, why don't you come down and run the Palm Beach Half with me in Dec.?

I wouldn't bother getting kb's from Target anyway. I don't like the brand they sell there. You're much better off ordering through PerformBetter.com - they even have the competition-grade kettlebells. I forgot what site Tom/Stingo had recommended to me, but I bet they also have better quality/better pricing, too.
