As long as you didn't literally choke on the swim, lol. It could have gone that way too! But still that sounds like a good time to me. What were the distances? I was the last one out of the pool for our mock triathlon on Saturday for the 1/2 mile swim .. lol .. although I didn't feel like I was doing that badly. But considering I average a 13 minute mile during a 5K, I'm impressed with your total time.

400 m swim, 6 mile bike, and 3 mile run. I think next time will go much better. I think nerves just got to me in the swim. Open water is my next challenge, that one is going to take a while to get used to.

Mix of emotions. Glad I was done, but also disappointed I couldn't get it in an hour. After my terrible swim it was tough to motivate myself to really push it. it was a good learning experience and I know I'll do much better next time.

July 18. It's an open water swim, so I'm going to have to practice that a few times before I sign up. I've heard the local tri club does a couple of open water swims, so i'm going to check them out.

April 22,

Run:

Distance - 6.25 miles
Total time - 53:13
Pace - 8:31

Comments:
This is a pretty long run for me. I wasn't too concerned with speed, just tried to keep going. I kept a pace a little under 8:00 for the first couple of miles then had to slow it down a bit.

April 23,

Swim:

1.5 hour swim class

Comments:
I had a tough time in the last swim I figured I needed to start going to a class, since training alone wasn't getting it done. I got some great tips from the instructor, and it was a pretty tough work out. I imagine I'll be feeling it later. The only bad part was I had to get up at 4:55 a.m. It's going to be a long day.

Just noticed a detail that really should make you proud of your swim time even if it wasn't what you wanted.

The detail is in the first post of this training log.

Dude...You didn't know how to swim when you started this. Just sayin....

Og.

April 27,

Swimming:

600 yards focusing on form

Comments:
This was supposed to be a longer distance swim, but I felt like lead. The day before I had spent 10 hours putting up a privacy fence for my mother-in-law, so I think I was just wiped.

April 28,

Swimming:

1.75 hours of swim class

250 yard warm-up

Repeat 3 times with 2:00 break
200 swim
4 X 50 kick board
4 X 50 leg buoy
8 X 25 swim

Comments:
Felt much better in the water today than yesterday. For this class the teacher puts up what all will be done that day on a whiteboard. I was able to complete all of it, except I did less warm-up and skipped the cool-down. I stayed 15 minutes late to finish it up, but at least I got it done.

April 29,

Run:
Distance - 6.0 miles
Time - 50:35
Pace - 8:26

Comments:
Weather station said it was only 74, but it had to be 80 something when I was out there. After about 5 minutes I was steaming. I don't think I hydrated well enough before this run, so I'll play with that next time. Also, I'm going to have to figure out a time I'll be able to run. Since it gets to at least mid 90's pretty much every day in the summer, I'll have to run early morning or evening.

April 30,

Swim:

1.5 hour swim class

8 X 100 swim

6 Intervals w/fins 2:30 (time includes rest)

Comments:
I felt pretty good today. Waking up at 5:00 a.m. is getting a little easier for this. I was able to do everything set for the day, except I did 300 instead of 600 for the warm-up.

Goal for this was 8:00 pace, so I was a bit slow. I should be able to get it next time I go for 4 miles or less.

May 4,

Swim:
Distance - 2000 yards
Time - 52:01
Pace - 1:18 (50 yards)

Comments:
I took rests at 700, 1000, and 1500 yards. After a 30 second rest I can feel I'm swimming much better. Hopefully these long distance sessions help me build strength up to go further with good form. The interesting thing was the time it took to get to 450 yards was 11:46, just 40 seconds slower than my best 450 yard time. And this time I wasn't paying attention so speed at all. I thought I was going really slowly and was trying not too overdo it, since I knew I wanted to go 2000 yards. Maybe I am getting better. I'll try just 450 yards in a few weeks.

Have you checked out Beginnertriathlete.com? They've got some way cool workout logging tools and lots of support for us. I still log here, too, but the logging there tracks your time spent training on each sport as well as strength training, and creates cool graphs for you even.

May 7,

Swim:
1.5 Hour class
300 warm-up

3 intervals 1:00 rest between intervals
300 Free 0:45 rest
8 X 25 Free sprint 0:10

12 X 25 kick board and fins 0:10 rest
12 X 50 leg buoy and hand paddles (not sure the correct name) 0:15 rest
300 free with fins

50 cool down

Comments:
I skipped running yesterday. Forgot my mp3 player, and overall just didn't want to run. For today, I felt I had a good work out. I think my stroke is going pretty well, but I need to work on my kick. The instructor tells me I'm kicking to the side when I'm breathing, so I'm focusing on that. I have no problems kicking correctly with fins, so I just have to move that motion into my regular swim. Also this was the first time I used the paddles. it's going to take a while to adjust to those, but I can definitely feel it's working my arm and shoulder. My arms felt like they could fall of when I was done, which is why I only did a 50 cool down.

I love beginnertriathlete.com too. Seems I spend way more time there than here any more. But I hope you don't mind me looking at your training log. You're doing great. I'd kill for your run times! A pace of 8.00 for a training run? Wow. I'm a swimmer so I beat everyone out of the pool, but they catch me on the bike and pass me very early in the run.

Just got from a 5 day cruise. I had planned on swimming, but the pool on the boat was really small. It was an older ship, built before people would even think about working out. I was able to get in two 30 minute runs. I swam a bit in the ocean, but basically I was goofing off. Hopefully I'll be back in the pool tomorrow.

May 16,

Bike:
Distance - 6 miles
Time - 21:00

Run:
Distance - 4.2 miles
Time - 36:54
Pace - 8:47

Comments:
The first half of the bike I had to slow down and stop a good bit for traffic, so I could have gone faster. The run was pretty tough, and I my time kinda sucks. But, not too bad after being on vacation all week.

Not really sure why I wussed out and only did 300 yards on the 3rd set, but my form was really going to crap. Next Monday I'll move up to doing at least 450 yard sets.

May 19,

Swim:
45 minute class

Comments:
Today sucked. I had to drag myself out of bed to get to this 5:30 a.m. class, and then I freaking forgot to make coffee. I could never get any energy going today, then I had to leave early. On a side note I have a doctors appointment today to get my arm checked out. I've been having problems with a bit down my arm from my shoulder for about a month now. Of course today it is feeling much better.
