This is the first day where I've started training to gain some weight back since I've decided to get involved in tri's late last year. I figured I'd go with NROL, and I'm starting with a week or two of the break-in phase to start it off. It works well since these are pretty quick workouts.

On Thursday the instructor taped our swimming, and after looking at it I know I really need to know work on my form. My stroke was really poor and I was lifting my head to breath. So today I watched part of the TI video and worked on drills. Tomorrow morning I'll see if it helps. Lifting went well. I can feel the difference already that I'm eating and lifting more. My strength is already increasing, so I'm looking forward to keep going.

I think I did much better after working on form yesterday. I think I'll do at least 30 minutes of drills a week.

Sept. 23

Swim:
1.5 hour swim class

Comments:
Felt really good in the water today. I was able to complete the whole workout in under 1.5 hours, which included stopping a few times and getting a good amount of coaching. I worked on bilateral breathing a bit, but I have a long way to go on that. I really need to start focusing on that. I'm hoping to make it to the gym for lifting later today.

Comments:
I had to skip swim class yesterday because I was up a few times with one of the kids who has a fever, so I put in 30 minutes of drills today before lifting. I'm working on breathing to my right, and I just can't get it to feel comfortable. If I just turn my head I get half water/half air, so I have to pick my head up. I believe I'm getting better so it will just take more time. For lifting I think it went well. I backed off a bit near the end because I didn't want to be sore for a couple of days.

Swim:

1.5 hour class

Comments:
My upper body was definitely more tired than normal. I'm guessing it has to do with starting up lifting heavy again, so hopefully I'll adjust pretty soon.

Oct. 7,

Run:

Distance - 2.5 Miles
Time - 18:48
Pace - 7:31

Comments:
My duathlon on the 24th is a 2.5 mile run, 10 mile bike, 2.5 mile run, so I wanted to get a good baseline for my run. I thought I'd be able to do this run faster and with less effort, but since I haven't ran in a few weeks I was not. I need to add running back into my regular schedule.

This was the first cool weather run I've done this season. I could definitely feel a difference breathing the colder air. I ran an 8 second slower pace than I wanted, but it was a solid run. I forgot my log for lifting, so I had to remember the exercises and guess the weights I'd used previously. I was pretty happy with it overall and I already feel stronger, so this phase of my schedule is going well. I skipped the high pull on accident, but it was probably a good idea. I guess I didn't pay attention to my form with it on Monday and my back has been sore since.

I didn't sprint at all this run so that I could get a better idea of how fast I can on Saturday. This felt like a pace I could keep and then be able to bike, we'll see how fast I can go after that. For lifitng, I screwed up and accidentally completed did the 5X5 routine when I should have done 3X15. Aside from that it felt like a good work out.

Oct. 22,

Swim:

1.5 hour class
Total Distance - 3200 yards

Comments:
Felt good today. I watched a presentation by Terry Laughlin yesterday and he talked about stream lining, so I was working on that today. I had to be a bit more careful to turn my head enough to get air, but aside from that it felt pretty good.

Oct. 24,

Duathlon:

Run:
Distance - 2.5 miles
Time - 18:31
Pace - 7:25

Bike:
Distance - 10 miles
Time - 36:00
Speed - 16.67 mph

Run:
Distance - 2.5 miles
Time - 20:19
Pace - 8:08

Comments:
This was my first duathlon, and I think it went pretty well. I pretty much stopped run and bike training after my last tri in Sept, so these numbers aren't too bad. Next year I plan on training through this event, because I believe I have a really solid chance of placing. Main think hold me back right now is the bike.

Swim:

30 minute drills

Comments:
I was on travel this week, so I was only able to get in a few drill swims in the hotel pool.
