masters swim shortly, then track tonight, so today will be a bigger burn day and eat day.
am sipping my new preworkout shake--I am even running hard on it, it is called Frutein by the spirutein people, and I drink the green alkalinizing one. 13 g carbs 13 g protein, 110 calories. seems to really set me up for a good workout, whether I am doing running, swimming or weights.
so I was moved into a faster lane today! have only been back a couple of weeks, twice a week, but my fitness is returning quickly in the pool. my new lanemates are very fast, and it is a struggle to stay with them, but I know this is good for my running, even though it is horrible for the ego! the old lane I was in just wasn't working right--I couldn't get into a rhythm.
I have an incentive to get good enough to stay in my new lane, because some of you might remember my swimming nemesis, the guy who thinks that my first marathon wasn't really a marathon because I walked it. I destroy him in the pool now. he's the one who insisted a few years ago that he was just so so much faster than me. so sad. he never listens to the coach, never improves, and there he is, stuck in this lane forever, and fortunately won't likely be moving over anytime soon!!!

Thanks tracey this guy is such a d-head, I am so happy I don't have to swim with him anymore! He is a condescending smartass. I really like his wife though. She is a great runner and a really nice person. Go figure

tina, yeah, maybe. these are wicked polar opposites. and they are both physicians too. she has a great rep and he has a horrible one (as far as skills go...)

track workout was GGGREAT and CCCCCOLD. toenail is sore today but not separating. everything is a bit achy breaky. am being diligent with postworkout nutrition, so I am sure that I will feel better before my next hard run tomorrow.
scale is up from post workout fluid. tuesdays are hard with swim in am and track in PM.
Looking good in here, Wendy! I feel naked without my gadget, too! I hate to even take it off to charge it, to be honest.
Thanks for the kind words, I needed them.

I always make sure I charge it up while I'm showering, since I can't have it on then, anyway!
I love your attitude about that swimmer jerk. I think showing people they are wrong through actions is the best revenge. Usually when someone tells me I can't do something, it fuels me to do it, and do it better.
Jason (my trainer) gave me some good form advice on benching - you probably already heard this (but in case others reading haven't)... he said to try to pull the bar apart (as in pull your hands wider, like you're stretching the bar longer) as you press up. Helps keep your shoulder blades in place and reduce strain on the RTC... it helped me a lot in feeling less shoulder strain on the bench...
thanks for that, bytsi. I don't have any rotator cuff issues, but I am going to try that technique on sunday when I lift heavier with the husband spotting.
ok, supposed to be 21 tonight. I am definitely wimping out and doing my 6 miles on the treadmill in the morning!
Haven't been on a treadmill in quite a while- couple of months- been doing all of my runs outside to prepare for Arnold. Today it was in the low 20s so I opted for the treadmill. Wow. 6 miles in 57:33, the first 5 at 6.2 mph were totally easy and aerobic. The last mile I did a quarter at 6.3 another at 6.4 third at6.5 and last at 6.6 and just barely got anaerobic (hard breathing). I had the incline at 1 percent to simulate road. I just can't get over how well this training program is working for me.
I am just amazed at how you can totally overfeed your body, be sedentary. Be unhealthy. Then you gradually start doing the right things, eating well, moving more, drop enough bodyfat to start safely pushing harder, and then you start turning into this high performance machine. Unreal! The body is just so resilient and forgiving. I am so grateful that I am able to experience the difference between this level of fitness compared to where I was in the early to late 90s. One of my friends remembers when I had trouble walking with them at an easy pace on the beach. My feet hurt, I was winded. Now I can run sub 10 min miles and not even break a sweat or breathe hard? Simply a miracle.

Great progress Wendy ... I love your statement about goal weight ... mine is somewhere near 140 too, maybe 135 at the lowest. After my divorce, I hit 130, but hat was 10 years ago and before kids. I don't want to have to struggle to stay at my goal!!

Reminds me of Boudica, another kick-ass warrior woman!
Wendy - conventional weight training wisdom says that a normal pushup is essentially equivalent to bench pressing 60% of your body weight. Now that you are pressing essentially 60% of your body weight - would you agree or disagree ?
thanks tracey!
thanks jill!
julie! good you have a goal in mind. 140 would be as low as I would go.
thanks ipster! I have made some major changes. the size 8's that we bought are a little loose now
greg, will have to look her up. could be my new alterego
lisa, I would agree, but only if the pushup is perfect form like my strength coach taught me--ie touching chest to the floor. the pushups I did before were not all the way to the floor.
lisa 60 % BW is for women 40-49. older press less, younger press more percentage. I guess they just really want it to be a weighlifting competition/component versus calisthetics
scale 150.25
burned 2433
eaten 2009
deficit 424
feeling very very good. running makes me retain fluid. my clothes are huge, so I know the scale is progressing. will take a few days off running prior to arnold so I can enjoy the wooosh. meantime, business as usual, training hard.
