Espi - tough stuff this all is, no doubt. Just curious, how do you know that I haven't experienced a serious illness? I just read that bit that i probably had never experienced a severe illness and was puzzled by it. The Internet isn't the place where I post those kinds of details about myself.
Jill thanks! I know finally the tummy is leaner!
Jane!My size 8 awakes no longer result in the dreaded muffin top. Searched mall today for joes jeans-no go. Looking forward to jeansfest 2009!
Thanks tracey! So glad my words help and I have confidence that you will reach whatever goal you set your mind on!
Well I certainly would hope you've never been critically ill, so was assuming this hasn't happened for you. If it did, how did it affect your outlook on losing wt vs. risk of sickness?
Without sounding flowery or mushy, I always look at four logs on this site because they inspire me to do something every day to improve myself. Those three logs are: Mahler's log, Lost Dog's log, Stingo's log and your log.
Well espi like I said, the Internet isn't the place that I discuss my medical history. Suffice it to say, when one is battling a serious illness, weight loss really isn't high on the priority list-sometimes weight gain is on the priority list. Your trusted inner circle of medical professionals are your best source for advice and information regarding whether your illness is at a point where it makes sense to stress your body with calorie deficits, hard training or both at the same time. Life is full of risks. I am blessed to have my own self assembled team of licensed professionals, including a couple of traditional MDs who help me make decisions about my training.
ok, I totally adore the gowearfit people. they responded to my email within a couple of hours on a sunday (!), and told me what jill said--they were doing an update.
scale 150
burned 2778
eaten 2236
deficit 542
today was a lifting day. did a one rep max test, but we kinda goofed it up. I got one rep of 90 no prob but then instead of stopping, I strained to do a second rep of 90. I should have stopped after one rep. so when I attempted 95, I failed. my one rep max is no doubt between 90 and 95 right now. so that is good enough to get me into the pump and run right now at the weight I am. hopefully, I can get low enough to do my reps with 85 instead. I will continue to get stronger between now and march 8, so I got that going for me. I can do endless reps of 60. can get quite a few at 70 and 75. I should be able to do more on a one rep max by the prediction tables, but my coach says I do not have the neural pathways yet for explosive strength. I have just never done this kind of lifting before. at least now, I feel like I have a clue on how to properly squat, dead and bench. which will serve me well in my running!
my coach is still available to me by email. he is the best! and my husband is a great spotter and cheerdude. we are enjoying having our sunday lifting sessions together again.
and benching properly is way harder the proper way then the way I used to do it. you gotta touch that bar to your chest in competition!!!
thanks ginger!!!! yeah, I haven't posted any bikini pics since the final challenge pics, and I actually did a good job on fat loss over the holidays--2 pounds in december and another 2 so far in january. I suspect that calipers aren't really even showing what happened body comp wise, because when I compare the final challenge pics to these pics, I look significantly leaner-more than 4 pounds leaner.
I think it is a combination of the new love of my life, my gowearfit, and very careful attention to nutrition. oh, and I am sure the intense running has something to do with it.

LOL!!! When I think about how far you have come it makes me laugh with joy! And I bet the intense running is going to make you lean and mean in no time! Soon you be faced with the bulk!

thanks karla! yep, I have found something that really motivates me. training for high performance means eating for high performance. still drinking wine and eating sugar though, just measuring it better! and NO WAY on the bulk anytime soon. I run too much for that. from now until april 2010 when I run boston, I will be running way too much to bulk. I will be happy to maintain! luckily, I build muscle really well, and have plenty right now for my purposes, both athletically and aesthetically. in 2010, I suspect it won't be difficult to put on some muscle if I want to scale the running way back. we will see what the future holds!
so
scale 148.75 !!!!!!!!!!!!! told y'all it was coming. I could feel it. first time in the 140's in forever, and these 140's have way more muscle than the 140's of the early 90's. very very very worth it.
burned 2160
eaten 1856
deficit 304
I seriously suspect that the gowearfit underestimates my burn somewhat. I am losing a bit faster than my deficit predicts. as long as performance is good, I am staying with what I am doing. looks like 142 on my scale by the arnold is defininitely within reach!!! will be so much better to bench 85 for me instead of 90. YAY!!!!!!

Holy Cow Wendy - you are kicking some serious butt!!
No way on the 130's tom. I would have to lose way too much lean mass to get there. I like the range of 140-150. I am 5 6 1/2 so this is really ideal for me. I will likely settle in the middle of this range. I want to be in a place that I can maintain easily given my culinary hobbies. If I were younger and not formerly obese with the excess skin weight etc, perhaps the mid 130's would be reasonable. But I am already running very well where I am.
