experiment so far so good! received UD2 in the mail today, lots of good info for endurance athletes and athletes in general that I can use for the next 3 weeks and beyond. also got a copy of flexible dieting.
frank is shifting my workouts to heavier/strength for the next 3 weeks. am really happy to be shifting into high gear for one last shot at this prior to marathon season.
thanks jane!! you *are* my official UD2 coach. I am clearly not doing the program right now (not lean enough). but am going to use his guidelines for the carb-up. I will holler with questions. it is a fabulous read. am taking it to bed with me now!! getting extra sleep in this deficit with all of these days off! tomorrow I lift with frank.
eeek, ok so lifting went well. then I show up at track expecting to do the usual. we decide to do HILL REPEATS instead. I can't describe to you how neverending this hill is and how effin blazing the florida sun was, with no shade. horrid humidity. tired legs. oh, yeah. and a deficit! was happy to complete 6 of them, even though my track mates did 10. I knew better. immediately refueled. feel great now and so glad I backed off. gotta know when to fold 'em!
feel great this morning! am fasting for my employee wellness fair. have my protein shake plus espresso ready to go as soon as they draw my blood. last year, the only item that wasn't "ideal" was my weight!! this year, I expect ideals across the board, since I am 14 scale pounds lighter!!
That's so cool, Wendy! Have a great day! (and yeah, I hate fasting for blood tests, even if it's only a few hours. I get all shaky and sick when I'm actually physically hungry. Me=hunger wimp.)
Hey Celeste! Good cholesterol went up by 11 points!
Bree, I know you know how tough it is to stop with the pack mentality of runners! So glad I did. I think track is why my HDL good cholesterol is up. Intense aerobic exercise raises it! Guess track is part of my life from now on.
The wisdom to walk away from a workout -- especially when there's a peer group involved -- is too often hard won. You've got a good head on your shoulders
getting ready to lift with frank. I have put two of my shakes around every workout, so even in a deficit, I am really careful with periworkout nutrition.
finished up lyle's UD2 book. WOW. great read. still love the protein book best, but this was a great read.
148.75!!! new low and continuing on the downward trend. really really happy with my "get in get out" plan for just 2 more weeks!!
I am learning that I can rock the big deficit and get really good results as long as I go into the deficit with a healthy metabolism. the last time I dieted this hard was exactly a year ago, and then, only for 5-6 weeks. this time, it will only be for 3 weeks total. in the interim, I focus on maintaining and including all of the treat things that I love, so I never seem to be in the deprivation, eat-the-whole-house place anymore. I feel really confident that I can maintain the new weight once I add the glycogen and water back. we will see how low things get in two more weeks of this. my transition plan will involve strict precision nutrition 90 percent compliance-my freezer is already full of proteins that are separate from starchy carbs, so it will be easy to just use the starchy carbs in the periworkout period. after being on such a strict plan for 3 weeks, precision nutrition style eating will seem like a feast!!
I feel great, clothes are really loose, so I know some of this scale loss is fat. yeee haww!!!
woo hoo scale still 148.75! am sipping some extra carbs in my shake, because I am running 6 miles. only doing two runs a week during this 3 week deficit, and only shorter runs. really feeling great!
6 miles went well! middle 4 miles were at marathon pace. felt very strong despite the depleted state. then showered and shopped in jax with peggy at penzey's spice and lululemon! totally restocked the spice cabinet, and added some things I have been wanting to try. (galangal, a thai spice, being one.) bought the cutest running skirt! peggy and I will be stylin' at track on tuesdays.
for lunch we went to colorado ted's and I had an 8 ounce buffalo steak rare with roasted asparagus and steamed broccoli.
despite eating 1950 calories and 191 grams of protein, I can totally tell I am in a deficit. am biologically hungry right now! will be drinking some tea and going to bed early.
I don't workout again until tuesday, so I know the hungries will get better soon.
thanks ginger!
thanks jill!
not feeling hungry anymore. yay!. I seem to do best in the mornings and afternoons, and as long as I don't work out, evenings are fine. running really increases my appetite! wow.
easy day of decluttering, and preparing for a lecture I am giving wednesday. house is done- we just have some minor stuff to do in the shed.
Looks great in here, Wendy. I'm so impressed with how far you've come about food and hunger... I wish I had the motivation to take the time to prepare and cook like you do... just always seems something else gets in the way.
Hey Wendy....how long of a drive to Fort Lauderdale for you? Just got an offer to stay for free anytime I want in Lauderdale....gonna definitely take advantage of this in the future.
thanks bytsi! I think I could revise some of the mottos around here to "fat loss happens in the freezer!" at least it does for me. speaking of which, just got back from the fish market. bought 4 pounds of locally caught sushi-grade ahi tuna. plan to dust in my new penzey's seafood seasoning, pan sear briefly, slice into nice slices, and freeze. if you like sushi, this stuff defrosts overnight and while you work in the morning, and voila!! sashimi for snack and or lunch. only works if you like raw fish though. you can reheat in the micro, but then it gets cooked, which is good, but not the same. naturally, it is best when eaten right off the pan, which I will do today for lunch. but I am too busy during the week to go to the fish market, which is only open while I work. eating well is a non-negotiable item on my to-do list. even when I am in a deficit. ESPECIALLY when I am in a deficit.
jane, ft lauderdale is about 3 hours away. I could meet you there and spend the night. I wouldn't want to do it as a day trip. let me know when you are planning that. I love ft lauderdale!
thanks roland! the quality of the buffalo at this restaurant was the best I have ever had. I even preferred it to the wagyu beef that I had both in vegas at the voodoo lounge and in this 5 star restaurant in kansas city, that I can't remember the name. young 30 year old female chef at this restaurant. really amazing food.
