Ok, so now when I am participating in these races, I totally look at the fast chicks (as they are passing me or looping me) and I always, always think of you.
I also think of you when I feel like straying from my plan. I literally have a discussion with myself and remind myself of my running mentor. Next thing you know, I am grounded, again and I am finishing these races feeling so damn good, as is the ankle.

hey greg, my etonics look like they should be worn by a 90 year old woman. they are VERY white and dorky. but they worked!
(((((((G))))))))))(((((THANKS! !!!)))))we might just have to do pump and run for fun! not sure I could even get one rep of bench press at 60 percent of my weight at this point, though!!!! I don't want to race it like I was planning on doing last year, because I would be too focused on nutrition, sleep, etc. and I just want to PLAY!!!! I think I could work myself up to one rep of 90 by then....

I'm totally down with that! My strength with the bench is waay down too, so it would be good for me to focus on it a little more and I am hoping to shed a couple more pounds which would help in the amount, too. Of course, I'll have to get my bootay registered right when it opens this time.

ok!!! I think I could do this if we promise to do it for fun and not for time. last year, I had myself all psyched out about where I could place if I pushed it, etx. I get too caught up in that shite!! frank will have fun getting me ready for the bench.

Sounds like a plan to me! I promise it will be for fun. As Makenna says, "I pinky promise".....

Thanks Tracey! If I hadn't put them side by side, I'm not sure I would have noticed the changes. Only 10 or so scale pounds lost in a year, but it seems like more!

hotter n hell 92 with high humidity was the high today.
track was somehow tolerable!! did two sets of 800/600/600/400 and kept a tough steady pace the entire time. this new chick was showing off on the first 600 and did the lance look as she passed me. then died off and couldn't stay within 200 yards of me for every repeat after that. she will learn pacing in time!!
I'm gonna sound so mean for saying this... but, I can't help but feel a bit smug when I see someone sputter at the track workouts (I've been that idiot, too, so I can be all smug. *L*) after trying to show off. I prefer being the slowpoke who takes off flying in the last 100-200 meters or so.
I also ran today in the hot, hot Florida heat. So seeing you write about it makes it feel a lot more tolerable.
oh, joyce, no question, I have gone too hard and burnt out many a day at track. it wasn't that. it was the attitude of turning around and glaring at me as she passed me-like I was in her way by running in the inner lane. it was just funny that for the next 6 repeats, she was nohwere in my vinicity.

Thanks for clarifying that. I haven't encountered the "lane glare" in a long time, though there is no shortage of irritating folks at the speedwork sessions I go to on Wednesdays. There's this very annoying 13 year old kid who I'm convinced half of our running club now wants to punch, hahaha. He just says a lot of stupid things that you don't want to say to a bunch of people who are already jacked up on adrenaline, but are tired and overheated.
Joyce the only 13 year old we have at our track is the son of one of my running friends. He is such a great kid! He is getting in shape for football season. We ran the cooldown laps together last week, and were totally silly. I'm sure we annoyed people.
rest day today!! am changing things up a bit. after a month of precision nutrition style eating and rachel cosgrove's metabolic workouts, I am exactly the same.
I have exactly 3 weeks until my next long run of 20 miles. between now and then, am putting fitness in maintenance mode--one track workout and one saturday run per week, and two weighlifting sessions with frank. track and one of the weights actually fall on tuesdays, so essentially, I will have 4 rest days per week. am going to really focus on recording my food, upping my protein, and getting some fat gone. the day before my 20 miler, am going to do a "carb-up" ala UD2. this is my last shot at fat loss, because once september is here, mileage really cranks up rapidly in the 12 weeks leading up to my target marathon. wish me luck!!!
Wendy, keep in mind that if you are going to carbload ala UD2, you need to really be low-carb/low cal during the week and do glycogen-depleting activity in the days prior to your carb load. Then, for the carb load, you need carbs and as little fat as possible. It's pretty strict and specific (calorie/carb/fat levels, workouts, and carb levels during the load) so that the calorie partitioning works for you during the carb load.
janiegunz, I am counting on you to be my carb load coach!! I purchased UD2, and it should be here in a week or so. I have done a carb load that was similar--but for endurance athletes specifically. I will have to dig up the original paper--the depletion we did was some HIIT the morning of the carb load and they gave a prescription per kilogram of lean body weight. very low fat. I remember it being very similar to what you do.
and OMG. the run was a 23 mile training run, and I did sooooo well. there was this college soccer player who decided to run with us. I think the most he had ever run was 10 miles, but he was running with us middle aged, mid packers, so much slower than he could run. he had a pretty hard time once we got to 15 miles or so. the last 2 miles back to our cars is a straightaway, and he looked at us and challenged us to a sprint back to the cars. he took off, but then soon had to slow his pace. the song "holy ghost" by the barkays was playing on my ipod, and I sprinted all the way in. the best runners high ever!! I still use that song for all of my hard running efforts, like when I have to do those mile time trials.
6 x 1 mile repeats. Totally too fast on the first two, perfect on the next two, sucky pace on the last two but effort was hard cuz it got hot and I ran too fast at the start.
oh, I am not doing UD2. just a 1500 cal per day protein, veggie focus with a carb up prior to my longer runs. cutting exercise waaay down. only track and saturday run. and two weight workouts with frank. so all good! I couldn't comply with UD2, but I ordered the book so I can use the algorythms for the carb load prior to my 20 mile run in 3 weeks.

Ahh, gotcha! Sorry, I wasn't paying attention.

experiment indeed! this is really the last shot at this until the new year, because I will need a few weeks post marathon to recover before any dieting. so far I feel great!
