thanks J! I truly truly love running distance. it made me so happy today to run along the ocean, watch the birds, the people etc. this pace has become comfortable for me, so I can really just zone and enjoy the ride. had my maltodextrin with me in my fave form, hammer nutrition perpetuem, caffe latte flavor. YUM!
I love this feeling and I miss it!!! Your enthusiasm and motivation is awesome and inspiring!!
Hey wookie I just think of heat training as speedwork in disguise. Once the cold weather comes, I'll be flyin!
This statement of yours came into my head as I was sweating like a whore in church during my run tonight.
And I have a question, am I allowed to call my intervals "runs"? Or is that not cool? I would never refer to myself as a "runner" but I think it's just easier to say "I'm going for a run" rather than "I am going to go do my 1:1 intervals".... know what I mean? LOL! (I am being serious with the question, though!)

thanks my girls!! I am definitely feeling really good about the changes that I made this year. I am really committed to doing pictures periodically, even if I never post them or participate in a challenge, because it really shows you how deceptive scale weight can be, particularly for us bulky girls, lol~
and G, ha!! heat is good for ya! and YESSSSSS you are a RUNNER!! anytime part of your workout involves both feet being airborne at the same time, it is running. don't listen to the running purist douchebags who say that walk breaks mean you are not a runner. or the same douchebags who say that until you are running 8 min pace or faster, you are a JOGGER instead of a RUNNER. I just want to say to them, hmmm. let's talk in 20 years, when I am still RUNNING and kicking YOUR wounded ass at the races because you insisted on doing marathons your way, and now you are plagued with overuse injuries. who's running NOW, asshole???
happy day of rest for me.
track last night was, of course, HARD.
3 sets of 400/800/400. am running track now with no gadgets so I focus on the effort and not the suckass pace I do in this heat. worked like a charm!! pushed it on the 400's and got closer to some of the faster runners in my group. I love my running group!! I am such a pack animal.
wow, I think I might make it a regular practice to compare pictures from year to year! from day to day, it is tough to see the changes, but what a difference a year makes!! more importantly, the physical changes are visual evidence of the performance improvements that have happened this year too. I am more motivated than ever to drop a bit more fat over the next 8 weeks before the serious final 12 weeks of training start prior to my goal marathon. SO. HAPPY!!
goal jeans slipped on easier today, so I am thinking I have made some progress during this first week of precision nutrition style eating.
WOW. I missed your pics. Rear view lookin' especially good lady!
Thanks T!!! Am really happy about operation build-a-butt. I think the growth started when I learned to squat ATG...those quarter squats with twice as much weight never seemed to help.

You reminded me... I saw a "trainer" at the rec center gym yesterday training a client. He had him doing some 1/4 squats, followed by leg press and then 20+ reps lying leg curls. Yeah - burning those legs out... Of course he also spent most of the time ignoring the guy and talking to a cute girl instead... Maybe if he spent more time studying and actually training instead of flirting his clients would get better results!

Quarter squats definitely have a place in specific training plans, but when I see people ONLY doing quarter squats, I gotta wonder.
Bytsi why would someone continue to pay a trainer who would use their time to pick up chicks? I would fire them in a heartbeat.
Bree, there is this doctor in town who once told me that I haven't really done a marathon until I have run the whole thing. He is in his midfifties and no longer can run at all because of hip/ pelvis stress fractures. So 8 years after his ahole comment, not only am I a faster runner, even compared to what he used to run, but I destroy him in the pool. Karma is a real beotch.

Ok, good to know! No one has said anything to me, but I wanted to be cautious. Even in my log it was concerning me, LOL.
Thanks, Darling!

Just wanted to add that I sometimes get irked with news clips that identify runners as "joggers," LOL. Here in south Palm Beach County a few months ago, a bunch of people came to the aid of a runner who'd collapsed (it turns out he'd suffered a heart attack), and the reporter kept on calling him a jogger in the TV segment. And all I could think of at the time is that must be so inaccurate, because he returned to his workout of pounding the pavement (not running, but doing the walking transition back to his routine). He also mentioned that he couldn't wait to start running again once he got the full go-ahead from his doctors to do so. So even if he's still walkin', he is most certainly a "runner" to me!
There's an ongoing series in the NY Times called "Running Voices," and there's a particular story that struck me, about a British vet who walked the London Marathon because he was paralyzed from a rocket attack. This proves the point that it's commitment and grit that defines you as a "runner," not always speed. Article here.

Fantastico TRX workout today. Metabolic workout tomorrow, 17 mile run on Saturday. I have cute shorts and top for breast cancer awareness run on sat. Grey and pink shirts with breast ca ribbon logo and a light pink underarmor top. Yay!!!
17 glorious miles in the florida heat. this is my best run yet, felt completely awesome, even in this heat, which is unusual for me. perhaps the 15 miler that sucked so much was still remnants of being so sick with that GI bug. I am completely back, and I feel fab!!
my new etonic shoes did just great. overall, a good, fast 17 miler in the bank. yay!!!
