thanks for helping me pick those jeans! I really adore them. ed says hi.
and the scale says 151! my body just seems to be stabilizing right here. I did my first "real" row on our concept2 erg yesterday, and I have to admit that I am hooked! the availability of such a cool piece of equipment in my home just might result in some downward trending of the scale, because, the competitor that I am, I already have figured out what my 2k time needs to be to qualify for masters indoor rowing, and I think I can get there!!
Rowing seems so cool. If there were a place to try it, I think I might like it. Well, except for the part where there's a chance the boat (?) could tip and I might go under water.......still haven't quite overcome all fear of water!
Jane flipping the boat can happen, but getting back in is one of the first skills they teach when you learn to row. Rowing is SO much fun. If you learn to row the 8 boat, it is also a great way to meet fit single men. There was one such specimen in my class, but I didn't know you then to introduce you! Oneof the most exciting athletic moments of my life was when our coed boat took the bronze at our local regatta. We were a boat of beginners and we beat our clubs experienced coed 8. The guy who was in stroke seat (basically sets the tone for the whole boat) is an amazing athlete. I absolutely loved the feeling of powering down the river just busting out as hard as you can, but still keeping technique and unison. You would love it. And rower bodies are just some of the finest IMHO.
and I LOVE the new avi!! yep, the doctor was totally IN on that day, we had a blast. she also has her phd in shoeology and has a nack for spotting the perfect ones amidst a sea of sale rack.
busy workout day today, lifting with frank, track tonight. and then we get to watch the team time trials in the tour de france. (TIVOed, not live....)

I would row with you guys as long as I could be the person who just sits there and yells out when to row.

oh that would be so fun. we could easily put together an 8 boat-8 rowers plus jill as the coxswain. (pronounced COX-IN). you would be perfect as the coxswain--strong leader in a lightweight body.
weights today were kinda meh. still recovering from 13 miler, methinks.
Great pics Wendy! Glad you are feeling better after being sick.
Its nice you have another option at home like rowing. I have always wanted a piece of cardio equipment at home. I have the gym, but you know, sometimes I am just not feelin' it. That and winter....shudder.
I thought of you last night during my run....I was dragging my last half mile and thought be like Wendy...drop the arms, push back the shoulders and run tall. Finish strong. It was tough!
Way to go Bree! I will carry your strong finish with me today to the track. I am really not feeling it, but I drag myself there every week because it's good for me. My reward is watching the team time trials of the tour de France. My favorite stage of the entire tour!
Am trying to get mentally prepared for track. It is so hard to run track in this heat!!! I seriously dislike it. Less and less hate every week. But still present.

Don't be a hater...

ok, so I have been intuitively eating since january. haven't tracked a morsel.
scale 151
body comp by same caliper expert since june of last year is down to 25.1 percent, but the cool thing is I have gained a pound of lean mass in two months!!! fat mass stayed the same. percentage of body fat down slightly from two months ago.
I am so thrilled to be in a place where maintaining this weight seems natural. so, in the next month, I have decided to enlist the help of rachael cosgrove, who is an expert at helping endurance athletes. she has tweaked my program a bit, my trainer is working with us, I will be taking the next 4 weeks to do a pretty strict precision nutrition style plan (we track compliance not macros..) I am shooting for 90 percent compliance. am taking bikini pics tomorrow. and pics in my "thermometer" jeans.
I ordered a very cool pair of anlo designer jeans in size 28. rachel calls these your thermometer jeans--she likes this way of measuring body comp changes. every month you try them on, take pics in them. and then you use them to maintain.
since maintaining 25% was easier than I thought it would be, I have now set a new goal for 22% by calipers. I am not in a rush to get to this goal, but I now believe that I can get there and maintain. rachel said the same things that the furman running coaches said--it will transform my running. I am totally ready to rock this month, and will post pics in my goal jeans when they fit!
getting ready to meet my running buds for a quick 5 miler. then organizing my office and doing my lessons for the week. and lots of meal prep!! will post what I do, very protein/veggie intensive this month.
5 miles was great!! I now have my macbook hooked up to a bigass screen with a real keyboard and mouse. this is so fun!
have more or less organized my office, including the mounds of paperwork that used to live here.
all in all, a very productive day so far. have grass fed short ribs marinating. going to slow roast them in my oven. also will do something with the 2 pounds of ground buffalo that I bought today.

That is so awesome, Wendy! Congrats. So this is probably a stupid question but will you keep up the workouts you have been doing during this 4 week stricter time period?

nope, dropping running to track and long run only. two weight workouts with frank. one or two of rachel's metabolic circuit workouts. two full rest days. so less running.
I start strict PN tomorrow.
yum the pepsi throwback was good! had just a few ounces out of the can though, it wasn't THAT good. have shrimp with buffalo wing sauce in microwave now. yum.

I swear, you and RealCdn are always describing these mouth-watering foods in your logs. Well, at least they've given me great ideas on how to broaden my palate.
I've started playing with the rowing machine again, now that I got a gym membership. I'll prolly pepper you with questions about technique once I really get into it. And can't wait to hear how your work w/Rachael Cosgrove goes, either.
good question espi! well, my recent body fat measurements continue to improve, maintaining this weight and level of body fat turned out to be easier than I thought it would be. I am hovering right around 25% by caliper and bioimpedence. july completes more than six months of no tracking. psychologically, I feel ready for a bit of a deficit. I am still really early in my marathon season, so I have time to focus on some fat loss right now.
most importantly, I found rachel cosgrove, who has experience in working with endurance athletes in my situation.
I like her bodyfat chart
very lean - less than 19%
lean 19-22
desirable 23-27
average 28-35
unhealthy greater than 25
I finally believe that I am capable of getting to "lean" (my goal is 22% by calipers). I am at a place where my body has rested for 6 months, has become very comfortable at maintaining 25%, so now I am ready to kick it up a notch. rachel's ideas are completely in sync with frank, she just has more experience with long distance athletes in general, and women in particular. frank is totally on board and thinks it makes sense.
this current fat loss will make it that much easier to run fast in november. the furman coaches felt exactly the same way.
I am really thrilled and very focused. precision nutrition style eating is very balanced, and offers plenty of good nutrients to help me get this done. no crazy diet shit in this log!
Good luck with it then.. have full confidence in you.
Could you offer me a hint on what to do with eggplant w/o cheese or other dairy? I'm probably not going to use the (by now too old zucchini) but if I must I could buy another one.. (will check the Flavor Bible) but wondered if you have ideas on what you love to do with it...
ETA: just opened it, and saw eggplant, peas & paneer.. peas?? but also anchovies.. hmm?
How about eggplant+basil+bellppepper+gar lic+tomatoes+anchovies?? (and then add white fish to get the protein in?) Is it too much to also add peas?
And how are you supposed to prepare that?
