last night I ran 3 easy miles with a friend, then we met ed and another friend of ours for dinner at the thai place. I had chicken satay and steamed veggies, so all good!
now getting ready for training with frank. tonight after work, 3 miles, will shoot for 9:15 pace including 2 bridges and heat!!! am feeling up to it.
You probably know it already but physical activity makes the digestive system go asleep and depending on how high your HR goes, things get worse.
Also, what I discovered too late, when you are stressed because of the heat or simply excitement of a race, HR goes waaaaay up and things you can normally digest well,.. just won't.
Had that happen to me.. double stoopidity was that I listened to someone else and ate things I normally wouldn't.. getting all stressed out of a sudden and not relying on my own past experiences where I'd done fine before. Have HR much higher than normal & bam... inability to digest anything, which is really bad news if a race lasts nonstop for up to 72 hours!
I love the TRX, franks workouts are very metabolically challenging. And they are constantly changing. I just can't say enough about how much these workouts help me in my running. I am totally pushing myself harder than ever, yet I remain uninjured. My weekly mileage is approaching 30 and I am not wasting any lean mass at all. Frank says I have the body type that can hold on to muscle pretty well. He is opening his new gym in sept, and will have several TRX for team competitions!
I'm enjoying my TRX, as well, Wendy! It's fun to go outside and get in a different sort of workout on my off days. My neighbors think I'm nuts, but that's OK!
Jane, isn't it cool how our definition of fun has changed since we all started that first challenge in jan 08? I love the stories and pics that roland posts about his social gatherings that involve the TRX. I first started thinking about this during a precision nutrition assignment that involved meeting a new fit friend. Berardi has a video of his birthday party where he and his friends are flipping tires, swinging this huge ball on a rope, doing sled pushes. Then they go eat amazing healthy gourmet food. They were my first role models for what it means to be exceptionally fit and also enjoy amazing food.
Locally my running friends were either chronic restrictors, or like I used to be, too much trying to outrun a large amount of calories. And the local bodybuilder/figure girls were all about restriction of entire food groups, like carbs in general or fruit in particular. So until I started with PN and some of the people on this board, I had no role models for the kind of life I lead now. Hearing your TRX story makes me wish we lived closer, because we could cook up some amazing food post TRX!
sipping my espresso and green drink and getting ready for my 9 mile run. last week, I debuted by hammernutrition caffe latte perpetuem. will do another scoop of that during this run too.
also the first time wearing my raceready.com run skirt that is made specifically for distance running! the mizuno waveriders that I already use for distance come in a color that matches the skirt, so I will definitely be indulging in those at some point closer to the race.
9 miles was challenging and fast but I did great! Showered quickly and have spent the day shopping with Tina! Jill is joining us for dinner and the three of us are shopping all day tomorrow! Already bought the cutest Brighton purse ever
Dinner was great! Great food and even greater company. Ed had a blast too! Am now chillaxing with a starbux. Ed is still sleeping. We are all meeting for brunch then Tina flies out and jill and I are shopping more! Our resident phd in jeanology has confirmed in person that my beloved Hudson jeans could go down a size! I am sure we will locate some today!
I recovered well from my 9 miler. Nary a pain. Must make post long run tempranillo part of the standard recovery nutrition.
I am here, just recovering from a fun fun trip with jill and tina! tina and I had a blast on saturday, finding cute sunglasses for her and a cute purse for me at brighton. we each were able to score the free gift with purchase totes, that were just adorable. we also hit up nordstrom's where we found a new style of hanky panky's among other very cute things!
jill arrived just in time for dinner at this italian fusion restaurant in the renaissance hotel, where ed and I were staying. dinner was great!! I had bouilllabase, we split this mongo dessert sampler. oh yeah, and two bottles of tempranillo--it was great!
ed used tina's camera to take some fab photos, which I am sure will find their way into someone's log soon! so much fun!!
we had breakfast at the same restaurant the next morning--tina, ed and jill had the buffet, I had to be different and ordered the lemon souffle pancakes with raspberry syrup and toasted pinenuts. they were more merengue than pancake, but wonderful. and the chicken mango sausage was superb.
we all said goodbye to tina, who caught an early flight out. then jill and I juiced up with a starbucks to prepare for round two of the JP fitness forum shopping extravaganza. nieman's was successful--amazing miu miu wood wedges with thick, beautiful black leather criss cross up the ankles. chantelle lingerie on sale. nordstrom's again for cole hahn slides with the nike air and cute silver flat sandals with stones around the ankles.
dr jill performed her jeans wizardry by locating the perfect pair of J Brand jeans--dark wash, slim fit, flare leg which were stunning with the miu miu wood wedge! I have gone down a full jean size since the last time I shopped--my hudson's used to fit perfectly, but now I have to wash them in hot water and dry on hot for them to fit.
trip to the running store earlier yielded two new pair of ascis and some compression socks for running.
jill had some awesome finds too, but will leave that part of the story for her log!
ed no longer fits into any of his clothing, so he got some great pants and jackets for work, and a couple pair of sneaks.
we just had a total blast, and I really am looking forward to posting some pics of the new finds when I get a chance. SO. MUCH. FUN!!
can't wait for the next JP fitness shopping extravaganza. it will very likely not be an annual thing. monthly maybe, if I can find another job to support it. or maybe there is grant money available???

Ok bytsi and jennifer will let you both know when I discover that grant!!!
I am happily wearing new shoooz! And my new running shoes were perfect on my 5 miler today before work.
I miss my girls and am so looking forward to seeing them again! I am one fortunate chica in the friend department. Truly grateful to JP for making it possible.
great workout with frank. Wearing my new michael kors faux gator flats in black patent. They have the coolest bottom- like joints of a spine in flat black. So comfy!
I am in awe of how much you shop. The next time my husband complains about my credit card bill I am going to refer him to your log!!! In all seriousness you deserve it. It is so fun to shop for clothes when you feel good about yourself!
LOL brandy, I know, especially on fitness related things. For so long, things just didn't fit, but now so much fits! My husband luvs when I shop. He liked everything I got last weekend.
Jane, I'm a bit scared to shop in vegas with all of you! Remember when I was there in october I had to buy a suitcase to take home everything. And that was just shopping with Katherine! I am sure some kind of JP synchronicity thing will happen.
very good TRX with frank. Mellow. Taking it easy today. Saturday is the mile time trial on Saturday, a 7:15 to 7:20 would proove once and for all that I belong in this pace group. Hoping for overcast weather and something below 80 degrees.
swim was easy. found out our coach is gone all summer coaching the little kids, and we have the Y activities director on deck. he's no kristin! oh well. recovery swim it is.
now sipping espresso. no green drink, only water and a bit of apple juice. at 7, we meet at the track for our timed mile. am going to leave it all out there.
