Hey Roland! Yep I am rotating between the frees and vibrams during the week, and using my mizuno waveriders for my long runs. Am too cautious to consider going to the frees for long runs. Certainly not the vibrams for long runs. My plan is to use the vibrams for the first time Tuesday at track. So my ultimate goal would be track on tues in vibrams. Tempo on Thursday in frees. Long run on sat in mizunos, marathon paced run on Sunday in my other pair of mizunos. The waverider is a lightweight performance neutral shoe, so not super clunky. Will likely do my November marathon in mizunos unless tempo runs start going so well thar i try the frees for distance. But with a year of foot strengthening, I would like to do Boston in my frees, and eventually do a marathon in my vibrams. Taking this minimalist running thing slowly.
Thanks bree! the Galloway program director has her heart in the right place. She doesn't want me to get injured. She's doing her job, and I look forward to showing her that I am making smart decisions.
Wendy, I replaced my Free 3.0's with 5.0's and love them! Since I've incorporated sprinting/running this month into my workouts, I have noticed, however, my one knee is a bit tweaky sometimes. I am wondering if it's getting used to the Free's. Previously, I always ran in Asics.
Right jane, And they are so fashion forward! Love the black and white ones with my black lulu groove pant with the white print around the waist. Tried to buy the green ones in jax last weekend to match my green skirtsports run dress but they didn't have my size. Sprinting itself can tweak the knee, especially if you haven't been doing it. And sprinting in minimalist shoes can tweak. That is why I am cautious about my first track session in vibrams next tuesday. I will have my frees trackside just in case I feel tweaky in any way
oh yum. we just finished dinner. they had wild salmon at noah's market, so I bought 3 pounds of it. made 6 servings of my lemon maple rosemary salmon, but I used maple agave syrup for the vermont maple and subbed farro pasta for whole wheat. it was delish! the other 3 servings I made into my own version of something I loved when I was in north carolina--they would make BBQ rice--kind of like a hash. I did this with the salmon, spicy organic barbecue sauce and a brown/wild rice blend. I tasted it before it went to the freezer. YUM!!! am now sipping my aztec fire tea from teavana. palate is happy happy happy.

Mine are the dark gray with the hot pink trim. I actually got them on eBay.....barely used.....for $18!!! I was a bit worried that they wouldn't be nice when I got them, but they were like brand new...just like they appeared in the pictures. What a steal deal!
oh, I have a hot pink underarmor running shirt and grey lulu shorts--hmm. might need to score me some of those! I was eyeing those this weekend too. the green were fresh in my mind because of the green running dress. will have to see how I like running in a dress. the first run in it will be tomorrow after work. jeff galloway is in town, and we are running before we meet with him.
great workout with frank. He is changing up the program a bit. On Tuesdays we are going to lift heavy with Thursdays being more running specific. He is really happy with how I am handling intensity. He feels that a day a week of heavy will assist me in my fat loss goals. Gradual body recomp not a serious deficit. Learned my lesson already on that one.
Just wanted to say I read your journal every time it's updated, but usually don't have much to add since I know little to nothing about running. I can however cheer you on - keep up the good work!

Tom thanks for posting! I feel very supported by you and the members of this forum. I would not be in the condition I am without these challenges, and you have always supported me during them. I should start posting franks workouts. They are tough, and I think I try to block them out of my mind!
hey tcoy, thanks for stopping by. next race isnt until nov 1, a half marathon. my marathon is nov 29. the next big day for me will be june 13. I will attempt my 715 mile for the first time and proove once and for all that I belong in this pace group!!
bytsi, that is so hilarious!
getting ready to swim, yay~ missed it so much. was in SC and then the rains blew out the pump, so I have missed two weeks in a row.
am wearing my lime green tatoo print swimsuit that I plan to wear in my triathlon, which got rescheduled to june 21. oh, tcoy, technically that is my next race, but I don't race triathlons anymore. I just do them to get a good workout and have fun with my friends.
so swimming was great in that suit. Am ready to use it in the tri next month. Running in the run dress and vibrams was a blast! I liked it so much that I went to raceready.com and ordered the run skirt. I did my last two marathons in race ready shorts- they are the ones with mesh pockets on the back for your gels and stuff.
I will be experimenting with a new fuel for this season. For the 2007 season, I fueled with hammer strength apple cinammon mixed with my own soy protein. Hammer has a new flavor of their famous perpetuem powder- cafe latte! You mix with water to a batter consistency and put it in gel flasks. It has caffeine in it which is good for me when I run long. The taste is spectacular, and I think it will taste good warm too, which is a factor in the Florida heat. I. Adore. Coffee. And it makes me happy to think about spending my calories on a race fuel that I enjoy.
am so psyched. Kristia has a baby seat for her bike. So her baby daughter and I will get to bike and run the three of us! Her daddy will watchbher during the swim. Will be sure to post pics. Some of you might remember the preggo triathlon from last year!
almost 8 mile run with the group today! great times. then we reorganized our pantry. we found some cool ingredients, and we are going to go to the store in a bit to find some suitable proteins to match with the awesome sauces and grains that we rediscovered.
4 miles at marathon pace, 9:39 average. felt nice and easy. now getting ready to grade standardized patient interviews, then off to organize and cook for 2 weeks, because next weekend I get to SHOP with jill and tina!!!!!!
man did this day get away! spent a lot of it grading standardized patient videos over the net. and cooked up a storm.
ground maverick ranch lean beef, eggplant red sauce over farro pasta. stuffed yellow squash (prepared with a mix of grated asiago and parmesan and the yummiest balsamic, fresh spices). buffalo andouille sausage in cajun red beans and rice.
did a mexican variant of red beans and rice, and had it over spinach and broccoli slaw with a roasted paquillo pepper vinaigrette. and a bit of super sharp cheddar. mmmm.
speaking of which, today is an off day, and I go in late on mondays, so I walked for an hour in my vibrams on the beach. just finished 2 poached eggs. I ate them with leftover stuffed squash, a diced nectarine, and a piece of whole wheat toast with earth balance spread. yummmmmmy. I love being able to cook a fresh breakfast on the weekends and on mondays.
lots of errands to do this morning before work, so off I go!
Great workout with frank today. Am happy with the progress I am making. We did some heavier sets today.
Scale is exactly the same 150.5. Eating intuitively. Even my smaller size 8s are a bit big today, so I think recomping is happening naturally. Am being a total freak about periworkout protein. Runners are notorious restrictors, and they were joking about my greens plus protein bars looking like baby poop. I never see any of them eat post workout. Tempting as it is to think they know best (they are all leaner) I know restricting isn't right for me with the amount of training I do. I know if I were to copy them, I could suffer serious consequences like one of the women who is currently posting in FLTS. She is in complete shut down related to restriction plus heavy running.
At running camp, I was shocked to learn how fast I could be if I dropped to 140. I contemplated a small calorie deficit, because I know it could help my Boston pursuit immensely, but at what price? How much of a deficit is too much?
As tempting as it is to restrict, I am going to continue with this intuitive eating. Daily scale visits keep me in check, as well as monthly calipers. In it's own wise way, my body is slowly and deliberately returning to a leaner version.
Oh and my running skirt from raceready.com arrived. It is so comfy and cute! It has mesh pockets in the back for gels and stuff. Blue insets on the sides, since we are the blue pace group! Ordered a new helium fuel belt in blue. Can't wait to run 9 miles in it on sunday. Fun!
Stick with what works for you... you already know it's working and there's no need to give in to temptation to restrict just because you see others doing it... I can only hope to eat like you do (smart, healthy) one day!
Thanks bytsi! I know I am doing it the right way, I just get triggered by these teeny tiny ectomorphic runner girls in my pace group. I am, by far, the heaviest one in the group. Combine this with the data I got from furman about how flippin fast I could be in a smaller body just has me wishing. In Ginger's sig is a statement of mine about women who try to beat their bodies into an idealized shape. I guess part of me wants every edge I can get to run my fast marathon. I need to take my own advice and continue to run my best in the body I have today. I seriously don't want my muscle to go away- I don't want to restrict myself down to an ectomorph. But I would like to drop the excess body fat. I just need to be patient and hit the deficit hard in the off season.
Having said all that, it truly feels wonderful to maintain 150 without weighing, measuring, tracking. I never thought it would be possible!
greg, maybe they have a special scottish division!
track sucked major big time. cut off my eating at noon, but mistakenly had one of my freezer meals--panfried chicken breast in whole wheat panko breading with melted danish cheese on it. barfarrific. wanted to hurl the entire workout. MUST. EAT. BLAND. ON. TUES.
but my best quarter was 1:50 in the rip roaring florida heat!! I would love for people to try to run track with us and do the times we do in this heat. it is brutal!! so happy that I finished the workout without hurling. we did 4 sets of 800's alternating with 400's.
tonight is a fun run with friends, and then thai food after! we are celebrating brandi's half ironman finish, her first.
