Sorry I have missed all of your adventures as of late. I am so glad your husband is getting better. I know your feelings about helping your family members that battle obesity. My mother is obese and hurts seeing her in such pain. She has battled the weight all her life. She at one time was on weight watchers and lost a ton of weight. She was actually a instructor at one time. Now she gained it all back and is in need of help. There really is nothing I can say, she knows what has to happen, and what she has to do. Its all up to her to do it. I can just support her in anyway I can I guess.

Thanks again for the insight in my log. Here is good food and good long runs!!!

Hudson's look awesome. I have some that are dark with tight on top then really flared legs... very reminiscient to me of 70s blacksploitation movie secret agents. All I need is a big afro. Oh wait..... got that covered. LOL.

I tried on some Hudson's and a few other brands, but unless I'm willing to pay for hemming, I'm just WAY too short! Maybe someday, when the budget loosens up, I'll spring for it... they were very assariffic...

Are the Hudson's good when you've got a big ass or when it's tiny?
Friend of mine loves Lucky Jeans but I'm not sure if hers is tiny or not.. I think tiny. Mine is BIG

Anyway, wanted to ask you something else... have you ever heard about the 'Flavor Bible'? I've just ordered it from Amazon and have rarely been so excited about getting a cookbook. It's not a cookbook but a book full with suggestions for combinations, just what I've always been looking for.. (don't like to cook from recipes anymore).

I thought it would be just up your alley!

Flavor Bible, the essential guide to culinary creativity, based on the wisdom of America's most imaginary chiefs.

Maybe I am in a silly mood but I really really like the idea of a book based on imaginary chefs! (The real book sounds interesting too.)

oh gosh, espi, I am such a fashion newb. I am blessed to have friends who advise me on this stuff. the best advice I got was to go to a nice department store like nordstroms and try on lots of different styles. my particular hudsons are here:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3012127/...bo=6004797&P=1

any ass I have, I have built with lots of weight lifting. it looks great in these jeans. some of my more endowed friends tell me that pockets like this do not help them, particularly if they are shorter. these tapered legs accentuate my long legs, and with my DKNY stillettos, they are absolutely perfect. I wear a size 30 in these, which equates to a size 10. I couldn't be happier! my first pair of designer jeans!

and thank you so much for the book reference, I will be buying it as soon as I finish on the forum. I have already told ed about it and he is thrilled. this book comes to us at a perfect time, as ed is just now discovering his inner chef. I helped him create an amazing healthy chicken parmesan tonight served with sauteed diced baby portabellas and diced green peppers in a balsamic glaze. we made a cool variation on garlic bread by using whole wheat lavash, real unsalted butter, garlic and fresh italian herbs.

OMG, raw cacao powder is in another universe from cocoa powder if you like the taste of dark chocolate. it is amazing in sweet preparations like I have talked about, but you may have also seen my post about it in chili, as well as mole sauce. raw cacao powder makes the best mole sauce ever. do try it.

oh, see my post to espi above. I definitely have my fashion moments. I love creative pursuits, particularly writing and cooking. so I think with some experience, I will get better at the fashion thing. but it has been such a long time since I have treated my body well with clothing. I wish I had the courage to branch out fashion wise during my overweight years, but honestly, it is all so much easier in this body. still, I wished I hadn't waited until now to treat myself this way. I would encourage you to not wait until goal. you can buy a few nice pieces now. I can't wait to wear mine to a surprise birthday party in a few weeks!

Would I need to look for it at a cooking specialty place? Or? I haven't had mole sauce in many years (since I was last in Mexico) but I do like it and I love dark chocolate.

Now you are making me curious. I'm assuming you are talking about unsweetened cocoa powder or are you distinguishing between one kind of unsweetened cocoa powder versus another type, viz. RAW cocoa powder?
I'm only buying unsweetened cocoa powder and religiously add it to coffee along with 2 minisquares (2x4g) dark chocolate.. heavenly.

Funny, everyone who discovers about the Flavor Bible loves the idea of it. It just takes quite a bit of time to look up recipes and cook from them.. one of the reasons I got fat earlier was taking the recipes literally & cook for 4 persons but then eating all of it myself in 1 meal! Now I just make from scratch but that tends to get boring too.. have vowed to start making at least 1 interesting meal from a cookbook every week. Project is the Mediterranean kitchen but will be including Persian meals too.

Far better than starting to indulge on candy

The Flavor Bible would be perfect as an in-between = not really a recipe book but also not making you flounder and only do uninspirational stuff.

jennifer and espi, here is the raw cacao powder I use

http://www.amazon.com/Sunfood-Nutrit.../dp/B000CPJM6Q

it is VERY different from cocoa powder, which is processed and cooked. nothing wrong with it. but this product is pulverized raw cacao beans. I really like the intensity of the flavor.

off to run, 6 miles or so.

thanks bree!! so my galloway group is starting up again this season with the "getting started" group!!! tomorrow, the veterans are running 10 miles, the last 15 minutes or so will be with the newbie runners!

I coached this group last year, had about 20 new runners who had never run a single step. we started with a 15 minute run/walk consisting of 15 sec run, 45 sec walk intervals. we built them up to an hour of this pattern over about 12 weeks, and then they ran their first 5k! I had a team photo made into postcards with the date and the race. I was such a proud mama duck to see the confidence of those men and women as they crossed the finish line. including teacher's pet, kaitlyn, whose mom trained with me for the chicago marathon. kaitlyn and her dad were both part of this group. she is 14 years old, and struggles with weight. she and her dad were my fastest runners! they finished strong for the 5k. I am proud to report than in november, kaitlyn finished her first half marathon and her dad finished his first full. the confidence in this young woman is amazing!! there is a pic of us on my blog.

ed and I have had a few new challenges, which we have successfully navigated recently. and he is encouraging me to get out with my friends and run tomorrow. I had built confidence being away from him, went back to work tuesday, and then have been home the last two days with another different problem that is, thankfully, now resolved.

for all you sunworshippers, get your moles checked. a 4th year medical student who I taught last year, was rotating on cardiology during ed's most recent hospitalization. she went to examine his lungs and spotted a mole she didn't like. none of the other docs, including his primary care were particularly suspicious of it. I had asked ed to get it looked at, and it was on his list for march, his birthday annual physical. but I worry we might have just been told to watch it longer.

fortunately, I called my dermatology ARNP friend, who fit him in last friday for a biopsy, and it came back thursday morning as malignant melanoma in situ. it is 99% curable, ed had more excision done today.

we are both doing well, and after the excision, we went out to a wonderful cafe and successfully negotiated the menu and ordered very healthy things.

tonight we made an amazing ahi tuna dish. the tuna was marinated in fresh local lime juice and cajun spice, seared briefly on the george foreman, and left rare and pink inside. brown rice was simple, with just a fresh meier lemon juice. ed chose the leftover ratatouille as his veggie, and I made roasted local okra and tomatoes with a balsamic lemon glaze. we were feeling really happy to be given yet more good news after yet another potential disaster, so we celebrated our florida heritage with local fish and citrus. oh, and we made a trip to the local outdoors outfitters and bought spf hats and clothing.

please wear your sunscreen and get a professional to do a head to toe check of your skin. you will be super glad you did. malignant melanoma if left untreated is deadly, and unfortunately I have treated patients who were diagnosed late. it is an awful disease.

girl, before you were the queen of spray tan, were you the queen of tanning beds???

I actually cop to using them at one time. but I have had a full body check last year. nada for me. I have always been a freak about sunscreen as a grown up. as a teenager, I was one of the tin foil and baby oil crowd, unfortunately.
