In addition to the cussing, I wholeheartedly recommend beating the tarnation out of a random WalMart employee. There's just nothing I've found that that won't fix.
Hee . That's an image that'll keep me going through my next workout!
This morning I was supposed to get stuff done, but I didn't. Except watching 2 hours of tv -- BUT I did it while on the treaddie, so lotsa NEAT credit there. Just strolling, but at least I wasn't 100% couch-tater for it.
Then had my Oly session. OMFG. Yikes!!! To borrow RW's phrase, it was completely VOMITASTIC. I seriously thought I'd spew for about 15 minutes in the middle, and I was shaking and sweating and huffing and puffing and...
I love it!!!
(there's something VERY wrong with me )
Jason and I talked a little more, and I showed him my workouts that I've been doing (Power Training). He said he'd write me up something for my other 2 lifting days and have it for next week, so cool! I think he wasn't sure about me during the first session... and yesterday (at the pod) he said something about what he usually has his beginners do -- and while I am an absolute Oly beginner, I don't want him to just put me on a cookie-cutter generic program - I don't think I'm a lifting beginner, ya know?
But, after today, I'm not worried that he'd do a generic beginner program for me
We started with med ball this time. Did every variation known to man (I think) with it - floor slams, wall slams (overhead, chest, hip, rotating, from between the legs, facing backwards, etc etc etc). We did crunches with a throw, all kinds of twists and rotations and around-the-worlds... It felt like an entire session (and I was drenched and breathing hard) - then I saw it was only 15 minutes and that was just the warmup!
He mentioned that he competes every weekend in strongman and they do tire flipping out back behind the gym (cool!!!) and he's been a professional strongman since 2003 .
Anyway - on to the Oly stuff after the warmup. I'm sure I'll forget half of it, but...
We started with OH squats. Squat thrusts (from behind the head) Squat thrusts from a 1/4 squat and did the press while jumping out into a deeper squat. Shrug work in a snatch grip from the top of the thigh and the knee.
Then we did hang snatches from the thigh and then the knee. I SUCK at those. Kept screwing up - either I would jump way too wide or I'd forget to shrug or I'd swing the bar out away from my body or I'd forget to squat deep or... . This stuff is HARD!!!
I was shaking and sweating and got pretty nauseous by about halfway through, but I just kept going and hoped I wouldn't pass out or puke... I think he realized I was giving him everything, because instead of moving on to cleans, we left the Oly platform with about 10 minutes left in the session... then we did:
GHR's supersetted with weighted reverse hypers.
I was grunting so loud, and could NOT complete the 3x8 on the GHR's - I kept falling and slipping, but I gave it 110%, and then also on the 3x10 reverse hypers (not as bad as the GHR's but not fun!).
At the end, I got a fist bump, so I guess he knows I worked hard
Wow! What an amazing workout! I don't even know what half of these exercises are...I'll get there, I guess. Anyhoo, you're awesome for pulling so hard. Great work!
Your workouts sound awesome! I'm glad you found something different that you love!
I'm also sorry about your bodpod results. I think that's why I haven't tried all that hard to get one done. I don't wanna see the number!
I also let myself go in December, but not officially. I thought I had done ok when I got back, but it turns out I was insanely dehydrated and I gained 5 lbs, so you're doing better than me!
AND in conclusion, I am also working out a plan to concentrate on diet and still be able to work out hard sometimes. I NEED to lose this weight. I am beyond unhealthy at this point, but I'm having a very hard time getting back into it. I'm trying to baby step it. I like the rotating plan of hard workouts vs. light eating and not all at the same time. We seem to be pretty in synch, so I'll be interested if you go that route and see how you do.
Lazy day. Almost afraid to DL the GWFit today . I did run some errands, but mostly sat on my arse.

All I know is my back HURTS today. Not low back, not "I'm injured" but - dayum!!! My mid-back and obliques are SCREAMING!

If you have questions, I can try to explain 'em (although Jill or Tina or Manuel would probably do better than me with Oly stuff). I'm not always sure what I'm doing either!

Work and pain and fun - isn't that all the same?

Hey Jes... posted in your log too, but... I'm sorry you're struggling. You're not alone! I haven't decided what I'm doing yet, so... we'll see. I might check out Maximum Strength, and I also want to see what Jason writes up for me...

and I had that same thought on tetris---hmmm, maybe I should check that out! Pathwords and Word Challenge are enough of a time drain, though I HADN'T played them in forever until Bytsi had to go and beat my high score...
I never really tried 'em before. Do you have a link to the stability ball version (not that I really plan to try it )... they were TOUGH. And I was sweaty so I was slipping and kept thinking I was gonna fall off the damn machine!
Bytsi, I looked and I can't find them. The ones I found all have links that don't work anymore. You essentially do the same movement. Anchor your feet with something and put your belly on the ball, hands under your chin, contract the glutes and abs and do the same movement you would on the machine. It isn't as hard, but by focusing on the same movement and using the same muscles, it will do the trick until I'm better able to do them with just a barball or whatever to anchor my feet.
Well, I have GOT to adjust my schedule, because karate after Oly session is NOT fun. Not sure I can change it though, but I'm going to look at it... I survived, but it wasn't pretty.
Right now I lift M/F on my own, do Oly on Weds, and karate (not my choice) is M/W evenings. I do cardio T/Sa/Su and take Thurs off... I do NOT want to lift on weekends because it's so friggin' crowded on those days... but I might have to...
3 lift, 2 Karate, 3 cardio. How come this isn't overtraining?

i actually forgot to put the gwfit back on after my shower which is a first.
is it just me, or do others feel like their activity doesn't count unless it's being recorded? i don't like to charge it unless i'm in the shower or sitting at the computer. hello - i'm still burning calories/racking up steps even if they're not being recorded!!

Don't know if this helps, but it looks like a killer variation. The website I found it on said it's an easier variation but...
For those of you with access to a stability ball and a bench, you can make a very good glute ham raise. First load up three to four hundred pounds of plates on the bench to keep it from flipping over. Then take the stability ball and put it in front of your knees, out to the side of the bench. Lay down on the ball, so that your knees are roughly in the middle of the ball, (you can adjust knee placement to compensate for hamstring strength) and hook your heels underneath the weighted bench. Then lower your body over the ball, and raise yourself back up using your hamstrings and glutes to raise your body up. As you go down your thighs should be making contact with the ball, and at the top of the movement only your knees should be on the ball.

Now I'm getting addicted to tetris. Damnit!!!!

Ok, thanks for looking... hmmmm... I doubt that Jason would let me do an easier version though

I guess it could be, but it's working for me for now. I'm still taking a full recovery day, some of the cardio is LISS (depending on how hard my other workouts were), and the karate can be very strenuous but some days I don't even break a sweat at all - very hit-or-miss with it. When it's really tough, I skip the next cardio and rest...
I will keep a watch on it though. As I've mentioned, I really LOVE hard workouts and just plain enjoy 'em. So mostly I have to be sure I get that rest day and I'm trying to do more SMR stuff...

LOL! I hate taking it off if I'm gonna be doing anything too! But I forgot it the day I did the bod pod (cuz I didn't wear it to the gym). I kept thinking about it during the day, as if it were on though. LOL! I notice I think things like "oh man, I shoulda put it on before I dried my hair - I bet that was some NEAT"

Interesting options... like I said - Jason put me on the regular GHR and I doubt he'll let me get away with anything less. He had to push up on my shoulders quite a few times to get me to the top of the rep, but... sigh... it's good for me?????
Quickie workout post - hopefully be back later to catch up with everyone's logs... Improvised workout today - no real plan other than continue push/pull type of program... Didn't push super hard today, no PR's or anything... still a bit sore from Wednesday!

LOL on the DL comment!!! Very funny!
Also, YES DO MAXIMUM STRENGTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Yup, I'm yelling...)

Hey Celeste - nope, not a chinup PR - it'd be a pullup PR, I think - gotta recheck my logs... not sure... but it was chinups!
So... wow... we're back! Looks like about 26 hours from last post til new posts started up again - yikes!!!! I hate server crashes (or whatever it was)!!!!!!!!!!!
Today: cardio - stairmaster 60 minutes. Machine said 4 1/4 miles, HR around 75% most of the time...
Went sledding with DS and DH. Fun, but I didn't dress well. Actually over-dressed - got sweaty walking up the hill, and wasn't able to de-layer well... bleh. DS wants to go tubing tomorrow... we'll see. Sure is a workout though, climbing back up that steep hill!
We were all set to hit Sbux afterwards, and they had a sign up that they closed at 1:00 (due to the weather) - huh?!?!? The worst of the snow was over, and the roads were getting better, and they locked up for the day? WTF!!??!?? Stupid Sbux!!!! As if I wasn't in withdrawal from this forum's crash, they took away my coffee too? How rude!
Then... food tonight, not so good... went out, had dessert (shouldn't have, but I did). Was on track this week until then... back at it, right? Might've skipped dessert if I'd had my Sbux fix earlier (I can rationalize anything!)

OK... call me stupid. It took me awhile to catch on to the fact that you have a new log.. duh. Subscribing now... and I'm going to pm you with Facebook info. I'm totally addicted to word challenge.
Your workouts put mine to shame.... freakin' incredible. Don't you get down on yourself for ONE SECOND about that bodpod number. You ROCK.

I was going into forum withdrawl!!
Sledding sounds like fun! We have yet to get any snow this year. My thoughts are - if it's going to be this cold, it might as well snow it's ass off - otherwise, I'm just ready for spring!
Haven't weighed in yet, but it's not gonna be pretty... sigh... damn cheesecake!
Must get to gym, but DH snored ALL night and I tried to sleep in, but mostly I'm just tired. Bleh. Stoopid snoring. Stoopid DH.

MAJOR withdrawal. I didn't know they'd gone down, as we went to see "Rent" Friday night (OMG SOOOOOO good - original Mark and Roger - AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!) and I was gone for part of it... but Saturday... yeah... had the shakes... it was awful!
Ok, thanks for looking... hmmmm... I doubt that Jason would let me do an easier version though
Well, yeah, I imagine if you can do them the hard way it wouldn't necessarily do much good to do easier, right ? I have had some success doing them from the floor and having hubby anchor my feet/legs, but I don't want to rely on him to get them done all the time.

Back from the gym:
Treadmill: 88 minutes (2 DVD episodes of BSG ). First 30 min: walk 1, run 4 at 5.2. Haven't done 4 min runs for a long time (just been doing the 1 min intervals) so this was challenging but good. Kept the pace slow, but HR still hit over 80% by the end. Next 30 min: walk 3.2 at 7-8 incline. Last 28 min: stroll around 3.0 with 4 incline, HR below 100. Tired but good.
Going TUBING in a few - wheeeeeeee!
Karen - I HATE GHR's, so I don't think I'll do 'em a lot without being forced by the trainer... maybe I will... who knows? I'm weird. . I don't think my H would wanna hold my legs for them, but I've never asked

Hey Bytsi! I hear ya on the forum withdrawls! Bri was making fun of me cuz I kept checking to see if it was back all day, lol. Glad it's up and running, but now I am so behind in logs I think I'm ahead!
