Sorry I'm late to the news, I'd echo other but this quote makes the point, it's in the gym on the wall...forgive me if I've send it to you before already...I think it's by Nike:
“A woman is often measured by the things she cannot control. She is measured by the way her body curves or does not curve, by where she is flat or straight or round. She is measured by 36-24-36 and inches and ages and numbers. By all the outside things that don’t ever add up to who she is on the inside. And so if a woman is to be measured, let her be measured by the things she can control. By who she is and who she is trying to become. Because as every woman knows, measurements are only statistics, and statistics lie.”
You know all of that already...you're getting there and you have made real visible changes, it's just a matter of finding something now for you that works, and that makes you happy...you'll get there!!!
Bytsi, so sorry about the stupid Bod Pod. Everyone is right, though, which you've realized--you have made AMAZING progress in the past year, you are looking good (and better and better each month), and you are fit and athletic. I do understand why you would be upset though, being a numbers person myself, sometimes I go by #s more than I should, whether it be the scale, bf %, how much I lift, my Word Challenge score, etc. You look like you're on the right track thinking things though and making a plan. So, anyway, my .02.
Thanks Celeste... and LOL on the Word Challenge - you still have me beat at Scramble, if that's any consolation (but I just started on that game )

eh, is a thot.
Hmmmm... something to consider... still mulling everything over...

Hang in there! I know exactly how you feel. It so easy to beat yourself up. Drop a few more F-bombs (I word I say way too much), get it out of your system and move forward.
I'm sorry the number wasn't what you wanted. But to reiterate what everyone else has said... it's just a number. Your pictures are worth a thousand words... and they are a thousand times more powerful than that stupid number. We are all proud of you and your progress, you should be too.

i know it's a disappointment, but you've come so far and made such awesome progress - don't let a number take you down.
Well, AF showed up this morning (I have no idea when she was due - lost track!) so... I'm sure that didn't help my emotions yesterday... sigh... but I'm ok now... at least - MOVING ON.
Ate a little too much last night, but not awful (tell H to stop making homemade granola and leaving it on the counter, damnit!). Eating prolly related to AF's arrival this morning... Weight 141.5 again. I miss 139 - it was a much nicer number... been at least a month since I've seen it...
Oly session (or at least training session - need to discuss plans with him) today. Not sure it'll be fun with cramps, but... not gonna cancel for that pathetic excuse!

Thanks . I'm very good at beating myself up, but cursing seems to help

Thanks Kara... it's been a rough month, progress-wise (as in - no progress) but I'm still here. And the support and encouragement help more than you can imagine...

Thanks Karen... thanks EVERYONE for being so amazing!
It's been a rough month for a lot of us. I stayed out of the gym for the entire month between Thanksgiving and Christmas pretty much! Major lack of motivation at that point. But now I'm getting back in the groove and we will all make up for the lack of progress last month with some awesome progress this month. Just wait and see
Well...at least maybe AF accounts for some of it... I'd rather be bloated than actually gain a lb...! Glad you feel better about it today...and yes...DH...NO GRANOLA ON THE COUNTER!!! RARRR!! Lol...
Hey Bytsi. Sorry the bod-pod didn't go as well as you would have liked. I just wanted to second (or third) those that said the pictures tell the story. They really do! It's always disheartening to see numbers you don't like though. I also agree with Kara - the past month was pretty lame for me, too. I had so little motivation! Its been tough to get back in the swing of things already this week.

In addition to the cussing, I wholeheartedly recommend beating the tarnation out of a random WalMart employee. There's just nothing I've found that that won't fix.
This morning I was supposed to get stuff done, but I didn't. Except watching 2 hours of tv -- BUT I did it while on the treaddie, so lotsa NEAT credit there. Just strolling, but at least I wasn't 100% couch-tater for it.
Then had my Oly session. OMFG. Yikes!!! To borrow RW's phrase, it was completely VOMITASTIC. I seriously thought I'd spew for about 15 minutes in the middle, and I was shaking and sweating and huffing and puffing and...
I love it!!!
(there's something VERY wrong with me )
Jason and I talked a little more, and I showed him my workouts that I've been doing (Power Training). He said he'd write me up something for my other 2 lifting days and have it for next week, so cool! I think he wasn't sure about me during the first session... and yesterday (at the pod) he said something about what he usually has his beginners do -- and while I am an absolute Oly beginner, I don't want him to just put me on a cookie-cutter generic program - I don't think I'm a lifting beginner, ya know?
But, after today, I'm not worried that he'd do a generic beginner program for me
We started with med ball this time. Did every variation known to man (I think) with it - floor slams, wall slams (overhead, chest, hip, rotating, from between the legs, facing backwards, etc etc etc). We did crunches with a throw, all kinds of twists and rotations and around-the-worlds... It felt like an entire session (and I was drenched and breathing hard) - then I saw it was only 15 minutes and that was just the warmup!
He mentioned that he competes every weekend in strongman and they do tire flipping out back behind the gym (cool!!!) and he's been a professional strongman since 2003 .
Anyway - on to the Oly stuff after the warmup. I'm sure I'll forget half of it, but...
We started with OH squats. Squat thrusts (from behind the head) Squat thrusts from a 1/4 squat and did the press while jumping out into a deeper squat. Shrug work in a snatch grip from the top of the thigh and the knee.
Then we did hang snatches from the thigh and then the knee. I SUCK at those. Kept screwing up - either I would jump way too wide or I'd forget to shrug or I'd swing the bar out away from my body or I'd forget to squat deep or... . This stuff is HARD!!!
I was shaking and sweating and got pretty nauseous by about halfway through, but I just kept going and hoped I wouldn't pass out or puke... I think he realized I was giving him everything, because instead of moving on to cleans, we left the Oly platform with about 10 minutes left in the session... then we did:
GHR's supersetted with weighted reverse hypers.
I was grunting so loud, and could NOT complete the 3x8 on the GHR's - I kept falling and slipping, but I gave it 110%, and then also on the 3x10 reverse hypers (not as bad as the GHR's but not fun!).
At the end, I got a fist bump, so I guess he knows I worked hard

That's the right attitude - we're gonna ROCK this new challenge, right???

AF doesn't account for being fat, but I know she added to my bummed-outed-ness afterwards... Stupid AF. And stupid H for making granola and not hiding it away.

Thanks Bree... I guess lots of us had crappy Decembers. I'm not one who usually falls into the holiday weight-trap, but I guess no one is immune.

OMG Diane... I love you. What would I do without you??? Thank you
Gonna finish my PWO shake and try to stop shaking...
Ah, Facebook. The total time suck. Just don't get started playing that stupid Pet Society game. I'm on there too with pictures of bad 80s hair and fashion! My poor sister was getting tagged from all walks of her life in pictures! LOL
That sounds like a totally awesome, kick-serious-ass workout!! Glad you enjoyed it (you sicko - LOL - j/k - sounds like something I would enjoy, too!)

GHR = Glute Ham Raise. http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/...eHamRaise.html
Basically, you lie facedown on a back extension machine, but instead of just raising your upper body to parallel, you continue to raise up by bending your knees so that you're totally upright (except lower legs) at the end. OMFG they are SOOOO hard to do!!!!
bytsi, you're an inspiration to me because I see all of the changes and hard work you have put into your body over the past year. You work hard and you get results.

They are really hard to do! Since I don't go to the gym, I tried doing them just anchoring my feet and that was a no go. I have to do the version that Lisa~ posted last year using the stability ball. I'm working on it, but it's a ways off. Way to go being able to do them--that's great!

I admit, I pretty much ignore the applications requests..... I just don't have enough time in the day.

Bytsi, that is an AMAZING workout! I am in awe! Now why can't I find a coach like that?!?
I actually emailed the USA Weightlifting Association to try to find a coach like yours or Jane's. I few emails have been sent back and forth so now I'm waiting to hear from someone in-state. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Then had my Oly session. OMFG. Yikes!!! To borrow RW's phrase, it was completely VOMITASTIC. I seriously thought I'd spew for about 15 minutes in the middle, and I was shaking and sweating and huffing and puffing and...
Well, I have GOT to adjust my schedule, because karate after Oly session is NOT fun. Not sure I can change it though, but I'm going to look at it... I survived, but it wasn't pretty.
Right now I lift M/F on my own, do Oly on Weds, and karate (not my choice) is M/W evenings. I do cardio T/Sa/Su and take Thurs off... I do NOT want to lift on weekends because it's so friggin' crowded on those days... but I might have to...
So... I'm sore. REALLY sore. My back... wow... those GHR's and reverse hypers did me in. Not in a "I hurt my spine" way or anything - but my thoracic back and posterior part of my obliques are KILLING me. Shoulders/traps are feeling it too. Wow. DOMS

I never really tried 'em before. Do you have a link to the stability ball version (not that I really plan to try it )... they were TOUGH. And I was sweaty so I was slipping and kept thinking I was gonna fall off the damn machine!

I hope you find someone. I never knew any coaches in the area (and I don't belong to Jane's gym), but then when this one expanded (and it's literally not even 2 miles from my home!!! ) and put in an Oly area, I was hooked! I'd never even walked in the doors before, but that got me. I'm pretty fussy - I've watched tons of trainers, working at gyms (and I've kept my CPT myself so I still train people occasionally) but I'd never really met anyone I thought was worth spending $ on to train me - til now!
Honestly, I think it was mostly luck that I found out about this place and this trainer!
Holy AWESOME workout!!! Sounds KILLER but definitely like fun! Also...LOVE that he tire flips...would he let you come try once??? GHR's are something that would probably be really good for me with my knees...but there is no machine I can do it on at our gym... Keep it up!!!
