So... day 3 with no workout (yet?). I COULDA done something today, it's not like I don't have a treadmill... but I didn't. I did go out to look at new cameras (didn't get one) and managed to hit a sharp curb hidden in some snow and put a HUGE bubble in my sidewall - so tomorrow I get to go buy new tires instead. Wheeee . Bleh. Dang it!
I also have my session with the Oly trainer tomorrow, so maybe it's best to go in well-rested? I'm a little bummed about the reschedule, cuz Wednesday fit much better into my regular workout plans, but - oh well! Assuming I can get the stoopid car dealt with, shouldn't be an issue getting there tomorrow afternoon, and I'm feeling much more recovered and back to "normal" (whatever that is) today.

Your daughter sounds like my husband. I have about 30 Christmas pics of him from various years, either hiding under a blanket or with an arm thrown over his head. Grrr.
Yeah, I was about ready to throttle her after she kept hiding!

Thanks! If you ever have a few spare weeks, you can read my old log - I don't seem to lose pounds easily, but it is possible that I actually did some culking instead of straight fat-loss...

LOL Karen! Planning and thought out? I just typed 'em in without any of that... although, I guess I ponder them often enough that in some way they are quite overly thought-out .

Well, you did a really good job making them sound like they were planned and well thought out .
That was SOOOOO fun!!!!! OMFG, I have SO much respect for the ladies who do this - it's HARD - so much harder than I could've realized without actually trying to do it!!!
I did 30 min stairmaster this morning, then had my session with Jason at 2. We started with kettlebells to warm-up -- 2-arm swings, figure 8's, 1-arm swings, push-press, 1-arm snatch, and maybe a few other things?
Then we went over to the platforms. I have NO idea what most of the things we did were, but I'll try to describe what I can remember...
I started with a body-bar (from the aerobics room) at the beginning cuz they don't have any 25# Oly bars (yet?), then I "graduated" to an Oly bar. We did snatch progressions (not in this order necessarily) snatch-grip hang shrugs from the thigh and then the knee, some OH squats, hang shrug to clean, hang shrug to snatch... I practiced jumping out into a squat with the bar overhead (catching?), we did some front squats (at least he liked my form on those, but we were only using the 45# bar)... I think we did some snatches from the hang at the end of that part...
Then we did clean progressions. Started with hang shrugs with a claw (?) grip (what do you call the kind where you put your fingers over your thumb?). Then on to hang cleans, then hang cleans with a jump out into a squat. Then we did cleans from the floor with 2x10kg bumper plates, and worked up to cleaning them from the floor.
My biggest problems: shoulder girdle. I have a lot of trouble keeping the bar back over my head instead of out in front of me. I also forget to shrug when we add more movements into a sequence. The other thing I did was jump my feet WAY too wide, over and over. I knew I did it each time, but I kept doing it!!!
And I'm sure I made a million more mistakes too . At least he said I was good at keeping my back flat and he never had to correct that like he usually does with beginners (must be all the DL's I do that strengthened it?). I was shaking and sweating and dead tired, but it was SOOOOO fun!!! I got to use chalk too
So... I signed up for a package of sessions and I go again Wednesday . We're also going to review what I've been doing and see if he wants to add in other things to my regular M/F lifts, and I bit the bullet and will get my free bodpod on Tuesday morning.
I'm TIRED. And a little afraid to see how sore I'm gonna be tomorrow morning

Sounds like a lot of fun. After reading power lifting and seeing you and jane try out oly lifting, it sounds fun (but hard). Perhaps someday I will give it a whirl.
That's pretty amazing for your first session, Bytsi. Seems like he progressed you really quickly. My first session we did the following:
1. High chest position. We practiced this a lot and still do over and over and over.
2. Then moved on to a jump with a shrug from that high chest position
3. Then moved on to a jump into a clean from the high chest position
4. Then started in the clean position and jumped into a low squat
All this was done with a very light bar. I'm still only using the light bar with the lightest big bumper plates. She won't let me move onto higher weights yet.
I still haven't moved onto the snatch yet. We practice form over and over ad nauseum. Especially keeping my weight on my heels and that dang high chest position and transitioning it.
Wow!!! That sounds like so much fun!!! I'm so jealous (but in a good way for sure)!
Glad you had such a great workout!
Thanks Celeste - it was fun! And now I am SORE and TIRED...
oh - and Leigh is right - intense workouts are major APPETITE STIMULANTS!!!
(guess I'm not going to aim for deficit on Oly day )

I was really surprised how much we covered. I think he was just trying to give me a taste of as much as I could handle, and once I paid for a package of sessions, I suspect we'll slow down and focus in more next time. But who knows? It's fun though, isn't it?!?

That makes one of us... I am really afraid of a bad number in the pod and I don't want to let it take the focus off all the progress I know I've made. OTOH, I know what my caliper readings have been and if the pod is just way off, I will go back to my calipers and ignore it (I hope)... I'm also a little weirded out cuz Jason (trainer) will be the one doing it, so he gets to see me in a swimsuit
Ok... back to food. Went out with DH for sushi (YUM!!!!) and it barely touched my appetite tonight. Wow. I am SO hungry.
Add me to the jealous list. It really sounds like you had a blast although it does sound really hard. BTW, if you hadn't thought of it yet, it's called a hook grip. Don't let the BodPod get you down. I'm jealous you get that free! I have to drive 50 or 60 miles and still pay $50.
Bytsi that is so exciting!!! I totally agree that something like that would make me starving for about three days.
And I'm with Kathy, if the bodpod is free and convenient, just go with it. You could always wear something like spandex shorts and a sports bra if you didn't want him to see the bikini. But, you are looking great. Don't be self-conscious, be proud because you have worked very hard to get where you are at.
bytsi, congrats on your first olympic lifting session! nice job!

Yah, I thought of HOOK grip after I posted - I was just so tired and... yeah... LOL!
I am glad that the bodpod ends up being so convenient. It's not free after the first time, but that's ok... I won't do it that often, but I might as well try it!

Bikini! HELLZ NOOOOO!!! I'll wear a 1-piece. I just hate being in anything tight/skimpy, especially around a guy who I have to face afterwards
So... lotsa sodium in that soy sauce from the sushi, or else I just plain pigged out plus I'm swole -- scale not kind this morning.
Went and did my tmill interval thingy - 20 min of walk/run going up from 5.2 to 7.0 for one minute runs. Then 10 min of 30-sec sprints from 7.5 to 9.5 mph. Then did 30 min at walk with 7 incline (HR around 70%-ish for the walk).
Pretty active for much of today...
AND ...
... although I already posted this a few other places...

BOUGHT my plane tix for the summit!!!!!!!!!!
DH is coming too, and I am so happy! We managed nonstop tix (wow - can't remember the last time we got nonstop flights anywhere!) for under $500 for BOTH of us roundtrip!
I am SOOOOO excited - can't wait to meet everyone IRL
And H gets SUPER extra brownie points, cuz his annual convention is in San Diego the same week, but he said he'd skip it this time and come to the summit with me instead. I have a GREAT hubby
Bytsi...I'm looking at flights right now. How late are you departing on Sunday evening? I'm looking at coming in on Thursday and leaving Sunday. No non-stops for me, but I'm looking at $247, which doesn't seem too bad. I just paid $211 to visit my girls in Eugene next month.
Hi Kathy - we don't leave til 6:40 Sunday evening, cuz the lower fare would be lost if we left earlier. I just pm'd Nick about it, hoping there will be somewhere to hang out besides the airport! We're arriving early afternoon Friday...
I'm looking at a flight that departs at 7:30 p.m. I'll probably go with that. Other than that my choices are 6:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. I thought I understood there would be others who weren't leaving until Monday so wasn't worried about nothing to do. But now that you brought it up... I am just a little nervous because I'm a little bit shy and flying solo and not used to flying much at all. Even the idea of changing planes freaks me out a little.
Msmogren: I was terrified of changing planes my first airport trip on my own, and I realized that no matter where you are in an airport, someone can point you on your way. I'm sure you'll do great!
You can do it Kathy - you've stretched and grown SO much in so many ways, right??? Consider this one more big one. I'll be honest - I've never flown anywhere new on my own (just between college and my parents, and once with my daughter when she was an infant, but again - to my parents). Consider it a chance for even more personal growth, right?
I would be more nervous without my H coming, but I think I'd be going anyway - it's gonna be too much fun and I would HATE sitting at home reading about it!!!!! I don't know that we can/will come every year, but if you can...
Also - I'm with you on hoping to get CEU's for it - it'd make it a LOT more convenient for me to maintain my CPT if I can combine business with fun... but not getting 'em won't stop me!
Thanks, you guys! LOL. The anticipation for me is usually worse than the reality. I've flown just a few times, always alone, but always nonstop. My flight to visit the girls in Eugene is nonstop. My one daughter has made that flight a few times, with stops, and she thinks I'm silly. To her it is no big deal. You're right, Bytsi, personal growth and I will feel all that more confident for having done it. Anyway, can't wait to meet you in person...This is going to be a blast!

I'm jealous! I'd like to go but just can't justify the cost right now. We really want to save up for a trip to Europe this year. So probebly not likely that we'll do many other kinds of trips. Have fun!
I see you already got the answer: what you aptly called claw grip is officially a hook grip. Didn't know that one either nor was it explained to me that I had to use that grip. I was just told to use overhand grip for my deadlifts from now on and that grip where you tuck and then squash your thumb underneath the fingers to keep gripping (w/o straps) is a given.
Seems like how every trainer is different. Mine barely touches the intermediate steps and just got me started on the complete lift almost straight away, except that with the snatch I didn't need to go into a squat until several weeks later and didn't really get a whole lot of cues. That's why I've been searching on the Internet so much and it finally clicked when finding the NSCA videos.. watch these closely, they are invaluable for understanding what you need to do!
Sofar it seems that most others here have trainers that do a bit better when it comes to technique. However, i shouldn't grumble as it's already wonderful I get my sessions for free, viz. don't need to pay extra apart from just paying my membership fee (30euro (~45USD)/month for once a week).
But now I'm jealous twice.. not just of your new & awesome gym but also that you're going to the Summit.. I don't think I'll be coming.. it's just too much money to fly. Yet.. who knows since Galya flew in from Bulgaria last time? How much is it to participate, when does it happen?
