I only have time for a brief update. My weight has been holding steady at 234/235. Down would be nice but considering I was sick for a week and am gravitating towards higher carbs holding that weight isn't so bad. Or so I keep telling myself.

I had an interesting day of low blood sugars last Tuesday. I hate those days where you keep heading low for hours on end. I think I ended up eating about 2300 calories and about 230 grams of carb and my blood sugar was only briefly over 80. I really don't know why though. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I'm still blaming it on the gremlins. Alan did say if it persists though he'll increase my carbs. So far it's been an isolated event.

Oh, my dad had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot travelled to the lungs) about 10 days ago. He was building something or other involving heavy lifting so at first they thought he was just injured. He still hasn't told the dr about that episode hiking in August. A blood clot would explain those symptoms too so I suppose as long as he keeps taking his blood thinners and goes in regularly for the INR he'll be ok. Hopefully. I still wish he'd mention it though as they didn't find any clots in his legs. He's very aggressive about getting medical attention for Mom or my sister when needed and will call the dr for them but won't do the same for himself. Men. It's aggravating.

I really have to give him kudos for setting up an excellent plan. He did an awesome job of taking the information and making an assessment and came up with something that suits me and my personality and my likes and dislikes. That's not always easy when talking with someone in person let alone being able to do it long range and through email communication. I'm finding the daily accountability to be helpful also. A little external control is great since I tend to be so moderate.

Also today's weight means I am down approximately 15 lbs since January 2009 and have lost a total of about 27 lbs from last August. So the whole year has brought about a very slow but steady progress.
YAY on all fronts!!! So glad to hear of the instant results. That is always nice when it happens. Glad you enjoy the daily reporting 'cause you can't get out of it. I've tried on a number of occasions. LOL!

Diane - sounds like you have had a lot going on. Sorry your dad is not more attentive to his own health. Those lows that don't want to stop can be puzzling. I get a more minor version from time to time. Suspecting that I really don't produce much insulin, I am left with guessing that at certain times my insulin resistance just drops a whole lot, and muscles are uptaking glucose, they do seem associated with exercise.

Sorry that you're struggling with the blood sugar. That's got to just make everything more complicated. Oh, and yes, men can be particularly pig-headed about seeking treatment when they're sick. My father was definitely that way.

I've been meaning to check out your log for ages as your posts in other folks logs are always thoughtful and realistic. It sounds like you have been making steady progress despite the complications life throws your way. Hope things are still going well for you.

Diana really is the voice of reason.. it's good to see you post your thoughtful responses . Had to laugh so hard at the thought of Etana running down a 'mental'rabbit trail.. could just imagine it. Her & me & so many others..
Hopefully things are going OK for you?
