Default Jodi's OPT Journal and Log.

I decided to restart a log here and begin Leigh's OPT program tomorrow. I am committing to the full 10 weeks of OPT and am going to try my best to keep the log and journal going. My track record for beginning a program, but failing to finish is a long one. So, we'll see how it goes!

I'm going to keep my stats basic. Here goes:

Beginning weight: 185
Chest: 43
Waist: 38
Hips: 45

In figuring out what my BMR, etc., should be I am going to start the program at 1500 calories a day. If weighloss is slow, I will drop to 1400. I'm also going to make an effort to give up the diet pop. I really don't drink a great deal of diet pop, but it's something I'd really like to kick the habit of.

I invested in the Crosstrainer software for tracking food and workouts and I have to say I love that software. I'm hoping it will help me to keep my food logging on track. So, for now.....this is the beginning of OPT for me!

Jodi

I do have some pics posted in my first log here that really haven't changed. When I get so motivated, I will repost them here. I may wait until I've made some progress then post the old with newer ones.

Ok, day one of OPT. I took a 50 minute brisk power walk this morning for my cardio workout. I will start with the weight workouts tomorrow.

Ok, I finished day one of Opt yesterday. My calories were too low, I logged them in and it came to about 1100. But, I never felt hungry so I'm not going to worry about it too much. Plus, my protein/fat/carb breakdown was right on the money to where it was supposed to be.

Today I did the first Opt weight workout. Also did 20 minutes on the eliptical.

I ordered some Syntrax Nectar protein powder in Fuzzy Navel. I had a sample of it and it was pretty good. Mixes easy with water and I'm hoping it will be an easy way to boost my protein while I"m at work.

Later!

Day 3 of OPT for me. I did 50 minutes on the treadmill at the gym. Combination of fast walking, hill climbing, etc. I do workouts on my Ipod from Itrain.com. They make my time on the treadmill so less boring. It was raining outside this morning so couldn't do my outside powerwalk.

I did better on my eating yesterday and my calories were at 1300. Still lower then what I'm supposed to be having, but I'm still not hungry. My macros were right on the money.

Day 4, week 1.

Today I did the second weight workout in OPT. I must say I am enjoying the slightly less strenuous weight workouts. After doing NROLFW it is a nice change.

I started today's workouts with 20 minutes on the eliptical, then did the weight workout. All in all, took me about an hour.

Yesterday's eating was pretty good, though too heavy in the fat. Total calories was 1500. My fat intake is supposed to be 25 percent, I was around 32 percent yesterday. Oops. Protein was around 35 and Carbs were 30.

More later.....

OPT-Day 5 Week 1.

No morning workout today, will get a one hour power walk in this evening. My diet yesterday was pretty good, though a tad high in fat again. Really have to work on that. Total calories yesterday was 1434.

Hi Paula...I've been hanging around, though not posting much. I read here everyday and finally got myself motivated to begin OPT. So far so good!

Now, for my lesson learned for the day:

The importance of weighing your food and also checking the caloric/fat values of what that food is before you eat it. I made some hamburgers last night on my Foreman grill. The beef was thawed and needed to be cooked. I made 3 regular sized burgers. Today I ate one. Weighted it on my scale. 3.8 ounces or 110 grams. Ate it and then plugged it into my Crosstrainer software. Oops....that darned burger was 15 grams of fat and 300 calories. That burned through a big chunk of my fat intake for the day.

I think I'm going to venture to the store and pick up some turkey and chicken.

Hi Jodi,

I just started OPT myself. My first day was Monday, Sept 1, so we'll be going through it together. I'm liking the weight workouts too. They looked so easy on paper, but when you actually try the exercises out, there's some definite challenge! And I like that I'm not so worn out afterward that I crash on the couch all night!

Yes, Isabel, I am loving the weight workouts as well. I workout early in the morning and some days when I was doing NROL4W I found myself so wiped out for most of the day. This is a refreshing change and so far, the guidelines for the eating have been going fairly well.

Ya, know, I'm not really sure. It was a package I found in the freezer bought earlier in the summer. Wanted to use it up since it had been in there a couple of months. I guessed it to be about 85% lean. It was grass-fed beef bought from a local farmer's market. Perhaps it wasn't as bad as I calculated it to be since I really don't know it's fat percentage.

Ok, now for today's log. I did start OPT on Tuesday last week with the holiday, but to make things easier I'm going to call this the beginning of Week 2 for me. I am so happy I've stuck with the program for a week! Yeah, me! Anyway I ventured to the gym this morning for my second time doing Workout A1. Today must have been "weird guys at the gym day". I go to a small 24 hour gym here in town and the two guys there today were just classic weird. One guy had on long black shorts, a long-sleeved button up black shirt and a black baseball cap. The long sleeve shirt was just odd to me. The other guy is just a weird guy you see around town. (live in a small town so you notice the odd people)

Workout went well, despite weird guy number 2 constantly hanging around me. I ventured to the back of the room where balance balls are and took some dumbbells with me. He had to come back there periodically...once bring some dumbbells and doing pushups with them.

On another note...I"m just loving Leigh's OPT program! Even though you can't get too excited about weightloss in the first week, I have dropped 4 pounds this week and it really motivates me to keep on going.

Later!

Ok, Week 2/Day2.

Today is my rest day. Not much else to report. Yesterday with my eating my calories were 1200. I'm still a tad high on the carbs. Should be 35%, but I was 40%. I was actually lower on fat and protein was right where it's supposed to be.

We did go see a movie, and I did not eat pop corn. I did take a Special K bar with me. While not the best choice for a snack, I figured it was better then movie popcorn and candy!

Week 2/Day 3.

This morning was weights at the gym. Did Workout A2. Before that I warmed up with 20 minutes on the Eliptical. My plan today is to try and get a 50 minute walk in this evening.

Diet yesterday was pretty good. Still a tad fat heavy, I think I'm going to have to eliminate having a bit of the natural peanut butter in my morning oatmeal. I do have some PB2 and am going to switch to that. I just love the taste of PB in my oatmeal.

Calories yesterday: 1396. I'm supposed to be at 25 percent fat, but yesterday I took in about 33.

Week 2/Day 4

Today at the gym was Workout A1. Prior to that I did 20 minutes on the eliptical to warm up.

Nutrition yesterday:

Calories: 1200
I exceeded my alloted carb intake, but was way low on fat. Fell short a bit on protein.

Also, I'm down to 180 pounds, so total lost so far...5 pounds.

Week 2/Day 5

This morning I did just cardio. Went for a 2 1/2 mile walk, took about 45 minutes.

Yesterday's nutrition was pretty good as well.

Total calories: 1210. I'm still way low on where my calories should be, but I'm not feeling hungry. Not sure if I should up them, or leave them as is.

Tad heavy on carbs yesterday, tad low on protein, but good on fat. I'm getting better at getting the protein/fat/carb balance in line with what I'm suppose to be havng at thsi stage of OPT.

Week2/Day 6.

Hey, have almost made it two weeks on OPT. Today was weights day. Did workout A2 today, also did 25 minutes on the elitptical.

Nutrition yesterday was pretty good. 1200 calories and was right on the money with protein/fat/carbs. I'm having one protein shake a day now and that is helping get my protein requirements up to where they should be.

Well, I did make it three weeks on OPT before life got in the way and I kind of fell away from the program. It's a great program so I'm going to give it another go and resume my log here. I lost almost 10 pounds those 3 weeks and really want to renew my goal of finishing the program. So, here I go again! Will get back to logging here tomorrow and get things restarted.
