The Communist section was the height of the hedonist tour. It was the major drug market at that time. When we hit Amsterdam, we were forbidden to go there. This made it irresistable to us.

Default Workout

Friday, 10/24/08: Full-body stretch. Enjoyed, but would have gone on longer if I didn't still have company.

Saturday, 10/25/08: Circuit. This is the 3rd time I've done this circuit and each time I've found out more information about me and the Front Squat/Push Press.
  1. Tops of shoulders sore for 2 days. Finally figured out that it was directly from where the bar was positioned & I needed some padding.
  2. Put padding over shoulders & worked like a charm. Then found that after workout my R. wrist next to the ulna was sensitive & clicky during spiral forearm movement. Thought this was a combination of weights & being on the computer too much.
  3. Found that after this workout, the L. wrist now had sensitivity the same way as the R.
Conclusion: Front Squat/Push Press with the BB needs human interactive training before I do it again. Wrists flexibility is not an issue. I believe the issue is the timing of rolling the bar into my palm for the push press such that I don't put undue strain on my wrists. Since I don't seem to do this naturally, I'm going to do the last workout with DBs because I don't wish to injure my wrists.

Circuit x3 (2-minute rest in between)
  • BB Front Squat/Push Press: 50 lbs x 5
  • Swiss-ball Rollout: BW x 5 (232)
  • Assisted Chin-up (feet on ground): BW x 4½, 3½, 5 (113)
  • Swiss-ball Side Raise (all reps R then L): BW x 5 (222)
  • Swiss-ball Jackknife (to pike w/ feet on ball): BW x 5 (222)
Still had company & did it anyway. Husband & cousin's husband came to 'visit' during cool down. I'm glad I was finished.

I can't possibly see how you could have any flexibility issues.

You know if I had lost flexibility, I would have lost my damn mind shouting that all up in here and that it needed to be fixed pronto.

With all the perimenopausal "events" I have been tracking over the past year, I can't say just what I'll "discover" day-to-day. On the plus side, I can see that I am physically strong & fast, my newfound active glutes have strengthened my dance technique, and I look fabulous. The rest of it is just "oh what do I observe today?" I feel like my own mad scientist -- tracking & plotting. I need to find a naturopathic doctor here.

Got my voter registration card today (how convenient). So I couldn't do early voting. Hope I don't have to clown over some voter shenanigan shit with my out-of-state driver's license.

Did a workout today. Ya'll are getting the short version.

Workout 3 of 4 (done at home)
Circuit x3 with 2-minute rest between circuits then finisher with 1-min rest between sets
  1. DB 1-armed Snatch: 23 lbs
  2. Lateral Swiss Ball Roll (232): BW
  3. Windmill Lunge (211): C1&2: 6 lbs (e); C3: 5 lbs (e)
  4. 2-Point DB Row (222): C1: 15 lbs; C2&3: 20 lbs
  5. Swiss-Ball Alternating Wood Chop (222): 10 lbs
Finisher: Prone Cobra: S1: 2 min S2: 45 sec (really need a good song for this. 1st set had a good song. 2nd set song TOO SLOW & I QUIT).
Found my jump rope & used it during my pre-workout warm-up. With the pre-workout dance & jump rope and post-workout dancing, this workout burned 795 cal in 1 hr 23 min.

Turning into a high-falluting hermit.

Did a low impact aerobic workout with my husband yesterday (only because he said yes). And had fun. Went to get a massage today in town (and won't be going back there). They "tore up" my upper back/shoulders (good) but just ain't worth a crap on glutes/hamstrings.

Intending to do either yoga or next circuit tomorrow so I can keep my mind off the tv/internet.

Just checking in with you Tracey - you seem to be far to vivacious a person to be a hermit.. well, for long anyhow.

I've thought about that since I wrote it yesterday. Voted this morning and still kept thinking about it. Went out this afternoon and stopped by the Urban League on the way home for a volunteer application. I also found an advertisement for from industry to teaching for in need schools. I'm considering looking into it. I seriously believe it is my purpose meter that has me doing what I've been doing. I haven't found too much that I find worth going out for.

Good for you, Tracey!!! Hopefully, you weren't second-guessing your vote and are still thinking about it because of its importance.

You got it Jane. Voting was very important to me. Had me thinking about me needing to do something meaningful too.

I've always been really passionate about voting, ever since my parents used to drag me out to vote with them. My mom was always a poll worker, and they taught me all about voting at a young age. So, it's always been an important day to me. But, this year, I felt the pull even more so. And volunteering to campaign seemed the right thing to do. I am going to be so HAPPY tonight to ring in CHANGE. I can't wait.

Just dropping in to say hi! I get hit with these moments when I feel like nothing I do in my daily life reflects my true values. I requested info about volunteering at the animal shelter, but didn't do anything with it yet.

Thank you Julie. After reading what you wrote, I went and re-read my signature. Those quotes still really resonate with me.

Default Update: Physical

I have gained about 5 lbs since I've been in the south, not working, and working out here & there.

Externally, this seems to agree with me. I look a bit "softer." My breasts, hips and butt have gotten just enough pop to make me look like I'm more curvy. It's very strange that I look like I did a purposeful body recomposition.

The last period I just had finally seems to have gotten last year's whack up my system progesterone flushed. Just a couple of "normal" girl got a period pain days but no outrageous bleeding. Hope that continues but have not logged enough months to indicate that is what's occurring.

Default Update: Workouts

Week of Nov 2 - 8, 2008:
That whole week ended up being a low-impact movement week. Every day but the last one and the massage day, I did a workout in the morning with my husband before he went to work. We had a fun time. If we go back to this, I'm going to have to plan other workouts around it. Ended up doing low impact aerobics, yoga, pilates, full body stretching. Just an easy fun week.

Week of Nov 9 - 15, 2008:
Did the 3rd Circuit on Wednesday (with a headache). The headache did not get better during workout. Afterward took some tylenol that worked immediately and I should have taken it before I started. Thursday did a day laborer workout moving stuff to storage. This was more intense (wore HRM) than I thought it would be. Friday: continued day laborer stuff for about an hour. All this moving stuff was because I had company.

Misc: It seems really strange not to have a goal or fixed program to work out to. I still don't want to go to the gym. My husband's cousin gave him a treadmill see got but never used. I haven't tried it out. Ramp seems kind of short to me. If I get a 20-lb & 25-lb DB set, I think I'd me satisfied with just continuing to workout at home.

Default Update: Mental

In a good place -- still very reflective.

The reason why I had company this past weekend (3 SIL, 1 niece) is because my husbands 1st cousin once removed had a 90th surprise birthday party. My company was fabulous. And the cousin (who I did not know), come to find out, he has been a civil rights activist, knew MLK and is very famous here. A judge, the mayor, and one of our congressmen came to the event. It was very touching to hear and be apart of. Then the next day, his cousin & his wife insisted we come visit and go to dinner with them. I'm thinking about asking the cousin if I can do a verbal history Q&A of him.

Wow, Tracey, that is so cool! What a treat, to sit and chat with living history.

I'm glad you're in a good place.

A living history would be a great thing to do. That generation is disappearing and cataloging their memories would be very valuable and satisfying.

Default Workout: Deja Vu

Did a workout this evening and did NROL4W Stage 1 Workout B. My husband called early in the day yesterday and asked me to get a strength routine together for us to do in the evening after he got off work. So I chose this one because I knew it could be modified for home use and felt that I wouldn't have to give a lot of instruction. When he got home, he decided to chill out.

This evening, I decided I wanted to do a workout this week and debated about doing this one or a yoga routine. Did this one since my log was already prepared.

Workout Length: 1 hour 12 mins. Warm-up: 13 min. Workout: 36 min. Cool down: 23 min

WARM-UP: Jump rope (60 revs x 2) then misc exercise-related movement (squats, side lunges, football runs, front kicks, etc)

WORKOUT
A: BB Deadlift
1 x 70 lbs x 6 reps (warm-up)
3 x 90 lbs x 8 reps

Shoulder Pre-Hab: Drawing the sword
1 x 5 lbs x 10 reps each arm

Alternating Sets
B1: DB Shoulder Press
(tempo 113)
1 x 15 lbs (e) x 8 reps
2 x 16 lbs (e) x 8 reps

B2: Resistance Band Wide-Grip Lat Pulldown
3 x RB x 8 reps (resistance band wrapped twice, still too easy)

Alternating Sets
C1: Alternating Leg Lunges /w DBs

3 x 15 lbs (e) x 8 reps (alternating)

C2: Swiss Ball Crunch /w Arms Overhead
1 x 8 lbs x 12 reps
1 x 5 lbs x 12 reps
1 x 5 lbs x 12 reps

COOL DOWN: Freedancing outside. This was so much fun. Temp is approx 34 degrees. I did my workout in the other house and when I was going back into the main house, I still had my music on. Got good to me, and after I put my other stuff in the too warm house, I went back outside and continued dancing.

The cold house and weather suited me. This is the first workout where my HR was high but I did not sweat.

I'm okay. Still a hermit. Still no plan. And trying to stay okay with saying I can't fix everything to "something is always wrong" family. Some days are better than others.

Your hubby is a lucky man. He has a personal trainer/best friend with benefits. I really like the idea of coming home to an already set up workout I could do with my spouse.

I think you will find yourself. You just have to kind of watch and listen. You will find what you want to do, or at least temporarily what you can do until what you want comes along.

You are right, you can't fix everything for your family. You can listen until it becomes toxic and then you just have to say enough.

Thank you all for checking on me. You make me think, and it really helps. Just sucks that I don't have anything interesting to add to hold up my end of the conversation.

Greg: love my mate because we definitely keep it real. I've been surprised how much I've enjoyed working out with him when I'm the one picking something for us to do. He chooses the type (aerobic, stretch, strength), then I choose a workout. He's not too much into the dancy stuff so I try to pick something more athletic. In application, it's been fun because things I think will be suitable have had some funny reactions (but he still is game enough to do it).

Default Posterior Chain: Tired

Was intending to do a weight-lifting workout yesterday or today. Not going to happen.

Yesterday Afternoon: went outside & saw the previous day's rainy weather had leaves all over back step. Decided to rake backyard. Did about 1/3 of backyard, side of house, and swept off front porch & back steps. This was about 2 hrs. Nice sunshine but cool. Enjoyed being outside but didn't wear HRM. No major aches/pains, but I feel my butt when I sit down.

Yesterday Evening: Was asked by husband to get a stretch together. I chose yoga. 50 minutes & my HR did not go up. This routine had some chair & half-moon posing. Again no major aches/pains, but now I feel my butt when I walk.

Today: Decide to continue raking backyard. Sunshine is beautiful, and temp is moderate. After 1st 10/15 min, put on HRM. Recorded 50 min of activity as 467 cal. Only stopped raking because I ran out of yard bags and didn't want to go get more. Only raked the playground area => I don't think the people who put this in have ever raked that area. I filled 3 yard bags and a yard trashcan and that area still has half the pile of leaves I made sitting there. When I stopped was feeling my right hip, right glute, right forearm, and right quad.

Came into the house and had a snack and 1 hour later, I'm sleepy. Decided to take a nap. Ended up sleeping 2 hours. Now back to feeling my butt when I walk.

I say rest OR upper body workout next. And I loved husband's reaction when he came home yesterday because he asked me who I paid to rake the leaves. Then told me how good a job I'd done and was amazed at how much I got to.
