You're so sweet to say that, even though the past week or so has been some of the drabbest, most boring logging I've ever done There just haven't been any stories since I changed up the training. I guess it's because I'm spening 25-50% less time in the gym, and when I am in there, I'm swinging and throwing stuff. Hmmm...

I posted this elsewhere, but it deserves a second one. I just finished making up my first batch of homemade beef jerky in a LONG time. I'd forgotten how good this stuff is.

Circuit x 10, 0RI
--rope jump x 100
--burpees x 10
--push-ups x 10
--BW squats x 10
Core/Finisher
--slosh pipe carry (across shoulders) x 3 @ 40yds, 60RI
Notes:
--Uncle Pukey almost paid a visit today. Now, in no way did I plow straight through this thing, but I just wanted to get all the reps in. I'm guessing it took me around 45 minutes to do this (I was at 22-something halfway through). I did have take a couple minutes' break to deal with dogs running around in the yard, but otherwise, for the most part, I couldn't've asked for a better day outside: partly cloudy, 85ish, light breeze, low humidity.
--For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why the pipe was so damned unstable, more so than usual, until I really focused on core contraction (read about it extensively in Balance but never put it into practice). That was a nice change, and I could've kept going on the carries except that my shoulders were on fire. Good to know for next time.
--I think I'm going to go pass out now kthxbye.

Nice job on the circuit! I don't know what a slosh pipe is but from your descriptions it sounds like a fun time. And man that homemade beef jerky sounds good.

Slosh pipe instructions. Mine weight 35-40lbs, I'm guessing. Total beeotch.
Yeah, the jerky is really easy. I get a fairly cheap bulk cut of beef (top round, etc), cut it as thinly as possible with a larger butcher knife, and marinade it for 24 hours in the fridge in a one-part teriyaki sauce, one-part light beer (Bud Light usually) mixture. When time is up, put the strips in a kitchen dehumidifier, and depending on how thick the cuts were, it can take 18-36 hours to dry out (also depending on how dry/chewy you like it). I now have munchie snacks for a week.

I also found out that a fitness equipment company that Danny linked in another thread ships from Fort Mill, SC (just down the road), so I emailed them asking if they allow for local pick-up. If so, I'll be able to get KBs for under $2/lb. If not, oh well, no-go for now.

If that works for you post about it... they're probably a tank of gas away from me, so likely not worth it, but if we're going to Charlotte anyway, then it might be.

Sure thing. I haven't gotten an e-mail reply yet, but I know where their warehouse is, so I'll likely just drop by tomorrow at some point and see if I can buy out of their front office there.

Intervals
--6 x 400m, 90RI (active)
90RI
--5 x 50yd, 0RI
Time - 24:57
Core/Finisher
--slosh pipe carry across shoulders, 4 x 100yds, 60RI
Notes:
--6 x 400m sure seemed a helluva lot easier than 4 x 800m
--The sprints were... well... ugly, to say the least, but I got them done.
--I'm beginning to think that there's no point in doing other core work in this entire program if I just start carrying that damned pipe for time/distance.
--My right calf was hammered early in yet another track session, but I'm still chalking it up to a modified motor recruitment pattern (similar to the reason for the relatively limited right hip mobility) compensating for the hamstring. It's probably going to be a very long-term project to get everything back in balance.
--Otto, your avatar is f*cking awesome.

Local pickup is no problem. Just call ahead to verify hours of operation and inventory.

Sprinting is one of the most demanding things that you can put yourself through and hurts a lot of people. Since you already know that you're fucked up, maybe moving to a different exercise might be better? After all, it's the energy system that's important not the exercise you train it with.

The energy system is the important thing, yes, but I suppose I should've clarified that sprinting doesn't bother anything; it's those laps around the track that bother my calf. I'm not worried yet because it is muscular only, no ligament or cartilage pain, and I've had similar pain before when restarting running. I'll give it a month or two, and if the pain continues to pop up, I'll look into other options. FWIW, some light stretching and then dancing last night seemed to clear everything up as I'm having no issues--well, no physical issues--this morning
