Good job on getting cleanout 2009 (mostly) completed! I stalled in mine after six rooms, as work got busier. Still have the den and schoolroom downstairs left to do, plus all bedrooms upstairs. Gak.
At this point, there are empty and half-empty boxes everywhere, so consolidation is the next step along with packing.
1-1/2" manila. Based on recommendations from Ross Enamait's forum, I ordered from this guy off of eBay since it's the least expensive yet real-deal manila people could find. I'm very happy with it, so maybe I'll start making trips to parks with lower-hanging branches I could just loop the rope around.

Ah. I was just reading about manila rope today. I'm all for the cheap stuff, lol.
Okay one more. I am really wanting to get a tire for flipping. So between our farm, Ski Denton, Ski Sawmill, and my dad, we have NONE. At least none bigger than truck tires. So I'm going to put out a request on freecycle, but I have no idea what size really I'm looking for. I don't want to end up with something I can't budge. I'm assuming some sort of tractor tire, but I know you have one that you use...any suggestions?
If you can find a large-tire processor or service shop, that'd be your best bet. It may sound like an oxymoron, but you probably want a small agriculture, roadbuilder, construction, or earthmover tire. Mine is about four feet in diameter (minus tread), and I'm guessing it weighs in around 225-250lbs (again, minus tread). This is what I'm guessing it sort of looked like brand new:
The sidewall markings on mine don't match up to anything I could find on Google or Firestone (the manufacturer), but if you go to their tire selector and choose "loader/dozer" or "motor grader," you'll get an idea of what to ask people when calling around. Based on Google Maps, it looks like the Specialty Tires of America down in Indiana PA might be a good starting place. They sell new, but if nothing else, they can probably point you to a service center or tire dump. If it's like the places I've been, they'll let you just walk around, try some out, and maybe even fork it into the bed of your pickup.

Ah cool, thanks. I put out an email on freecycle first, figuring there's lots of farmers around here that might have something that will work. I was chagrined to find out that we didn't have one lying around somewhere! So far I've done a lot of thinking but no "doing" when it comes to setting up fun stuff outside. So I"m trying to get in gear before summer's over...
Sometimes, you can find a couple hits on Craig's List (maybe Pitt has more traffic than CLT because nothing shows up here). Good luck on the search!
It's a bit of a pain to set up but ultimately worth it. As weird as it sounds, even though I've only had it for two months, it's going to be hard taking the rope down and not having somewhere new to hang it. Hopefully, I can rig up something in the garage at the next place; otherwise, it's Door Gym pull-ups for the foreseeable future (boo!).

--The "tri-move" is the thingy I described a little while ago: RDL to bent-knee DL to pistol squat, one leg straight through and then the other.
--91F (94F heat index) = drippy.
--Today, I officially finished CleanOut 2009 and will now move on to Consolidation 2009 coupled with Pack-and-Move #2 of the year. Purging was easy. Now I have to organize and re-store everything that's left. I suck at packing (and unpacking, for that matter). Gimme heavy stuff to lift, load, unload, move, arrange, whatever. Just don't ask me to wrap and unwrap each glass in newspaper
--About this time last year, I mentioned that I had a gift certificate for a NASCAR experience thingy. It ended up being rained out, so I was given a rain check good for one year. In today's final cleanout push, I found it--it has an August 1 expiration, so I called the place since they have two days left this month to do sessions. Turns out I can schedule it for whenever just so long as I make the reservation by August 1. Score.

Hey, I got one response from my freecycle post--now if I can just get her to email me back so we can plan a time to go pick it up! (and wait till
ya see what I made today! )
Oh yeah--those tri leg thingies look killer. I fall over when I SAY pistol squat!
I miss tire flips. Stoopid high school kids stole the smallest tire... next smallest one at our gym is over 600# (which is fine for my trainer, who is 6'5" and 310#, but not for me!)

Good luck on getting it. Should I be jealous of whatever it was you made? What was it? Sandbags? Slosh pipe? Pull-up bars? What? WHAT???
So, if *I* say "pistol squat," will you fall over then, too?

Unless they're using it for training, why steal it? I never understood that. I used to work in traffic control for a concert amphitheater, and the drunk college kids would still orange reflector cones because....? I guess $10 is too much for a potted and/or fake plant in the dorm room.

Nah, not jealous. A "sort-of" drag sled using a tire, and yeah, some sandbags. I need duffelbags or something for them though. Nothing amazing, but I'm way happy.

Sweet. I've been dragging my feet on that project for years. I have the wheelbarrow shell, some rope, and sandbags. Just haven't put them all together, so until then, I'll pine wistfully for my own while you play with yours--wait wut?

I have a wheelbarrow too, that is so rickety it falls over all the time, so I was going to take that apart. But I got stuck at drilling holes in the metal part, and figured Shawn wasn't about to have any free time for at least a month to help me out. So the tire thing seems to be working pretty well.
That was actually going to be a follow-up question, the hole drilling in the barrow. I have a drill bit designed for punching metal, but I haven't figured out a way to flange the hole so that the rope doesn't fray. The eye-bolt thing, though, solves a lot of problems except that I need to go buy a smaller drill bit, but I like that idea for the barrow as well.
Pics and vids, pics and vids!

Mine already had holes from the bolts that held the handles on. I put the eyebolts through with a large flat washer on each side.
In this picture, it's just rope through the holes, but the rope broke in a dramatic fashion, so I put eyebolts and washers in.
Yeah, I suppose the size of the hole doesn't matter as long as the holes in the washers on either side are smaller. After three years, this thing may actually get made

--That very last set of double-unders probably had about fifteen reps in it, but I wasn't going to call it done until I got five straight good ones, and things were getting sloppy at that point.
--Each of these phases (rope and core) could individually be a little more challenging, more reps per set of DUs or shorter rest intervals for each. If I pair these two up again, I'll adjust one before adjusting both. That's not to say this didn't challenge me as I'm still pretty drippy and tired, but I'm not absolutely demolished like the last workout. Of course, it took me two days of rest and random prehab to feel up to working out again. Oops

--Yeah, yeah, I know, dynamic overhead movement, shame on me. I had to scratch an itch. It was simply a 1-arm KB snatch, lower KB to the shoulder, then do a 1-arm overhead jerk.
--The lunge combo just meant that whichever leg led the movement, the KB was overhead in the opposite hand (see? I got some shoulder stability work in there ). Obviously, all reps for one leg were done before the other leg.
--I may've declared "mission accomplished" a little prematurely in CleanOut 2009, but it can't be by much. I started Consolidation 2009 this morning and found more stuff to throw away. Oh well.
--Per my status as of this writing, Facebook has officially REALLY creeped me out, suggesting I "friend" someone I knew for all of three days back in November 2005 and 700 miles away. Big Brother isn't coming. Big Brother is here.

This is the "more later," a re-post from another forum where I tend to vent a little more than I do here, so there's your forewarning. I'm in the middle of packing up all my books--yes, packing has officially begun, even though I don't know where I'm moving to (see below)--so I just copied and pasted and edited, profanity excluded
[vent]
It's been one big shit sandwich right after another, I tell ya. I mentioned elsewhere that I'd found, applied for, and (a few days later) was told, "oh, we're sorry, we tried to call, but another application went in before yours and got approved." Yeah, thanks, fuckers. I've never understood how you "try to call." Either you do or you don't (they did, in fact, call with only a "call us back" message, yet my regular emails only garnered this single response after the fact, not before). That was almost a week I could've kept looking instead of, ya know, NOT looking. Anyway, a mad scramble ensued a couple days ago with a couple more places on the radar, so I applied, was told another application was in but would be processed and presented along with mine for the homeowner to choose (not optimistic), and oh by the way, since the people on the application aren't married, that'll be an additional $55 application fee. WTFever. If this one doesn't work, the same company is offering another place I'm interested in, and if THAT one doesn't work, or if they want ANOTHER $110 just to fill out ANOTHER application, it'll be "fuck it" time and just suck up living in an apartment for six months.
On the job front, the big job I've been holding out for still hasn't posted. I got a call this morning from my friend who's keeping me apprised of the situation and was told that the job wouldn't post for another two weeks, possibly a month, but that they're going to try to fill the position temporarily for similar pay, no benefits, and oh yeah, you have to pay for parking (about $20/week). That, by the way, is no guarantee that (a) I'll get the temp position since she also suggested another guy (a good friend, by the way) as a candidate or (b) whoever gets the temp position will become the permanent hire, though they have a decided advantage in that situation. I know I don't have the savings to hold out until October (the estimated hire time after applications, interviews, etc), so if I don't get the temp position, it'll be time to haul out the youth fitness stuff full-blast, and if need be, go sling burgers at Five Guys just to bring in some income for the time being (I'd definitely have to alter my training to "bulk" mode ).
Radio is pretty much over. Not that I'd be opposed to doing more than four shifts a month, but the industry as a whole is taking a nosedive, and this market especially is saturated (lots of media types out of work), so even though there are a couple things out there, it'd mean moving to, ya know, Mobile or Boise. Pretty sure I can scrape together something better here.
It's going to suck big hairy sweaty ones, but I may have to go on the offensive and be extra sweet and nice to my contact with the football coach friends. I also need to bitch-slap some people into following through on their promises to get me some contact info for a couple potential clients. It's been a month, and you can't send me their email addresses? Awesome.
I know I may seem bitchy, but I'm not. I just want some decisions to get made so I can make my own. It's annoying waiting on other people who don't give a flip when it's your general livelihood is at stake. I know that no matter what happens, everything will be fine. It's just that some courses are much more (in)convenient, time-consuming, and/or (in)secure than others, but at least I could get started.

Sorry life in general stinks at the moment. Boy I do know how you feel. I got laid off (read fired) last month, after 5 years and not even being late one freakin' time.
And all those 'friends' that are hooking me up, is not panning out the way I planned.
I know what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, but it sure doesn't lower the stress level while it is happening.
Look at it this way . .. at least if you have to go out and apply for something that you don't want, you are 'in shape and healthy!' That is a big plus in today's job market!
Okay, I'll shut up being the 'cheer up' person, it gets on my nerves when people do it too

To play the practically non-existent optimist, no matter what happens, everything is more or less going to be resolved by the end of next week. I will know one way or another if I got the job I want, even if it's on an interim basis. If I do, great, bring on the pain (based on the interview, there is a LOT--I mean a LOT--more involved with this position than I was led to believe, as in overseeing a building-and-a-half instead of just two departments, which is fine. If I don't, Soundsmith Fitness (well, that's the name being kicked around the office since I'm toying with Kids First Fitness and a couple others) is going to consume my life for the next few months at least.
I will know one way or another where I'll be living for the next 6-12 months and won't have to be scrambling on that anymore--in fact, I did get an email back saying everything was a go for August 1 on one of my less-preferred houses, so at least that's an option now. I'm not going to respond until late Monday as a couple better options are still pending.
Also, I got asked today if I was ex-military or a firefighter. Why? Bald head, black UnderArmor shirt, "you just look like it." Hell, things are so chaotic right now that I'm even thanking people for compliments rather than giving them shit for them

I don't know. On the one hand, I hope so. I love the food, it's pretty doggone fresh, and if I hooked it up just right, I could easily rock out a keto diet again. On the other hand, I hope not, or I could also end up on an unintentional, massive bulk. Either way, my skin would never dry out from all the peanut oil floating around there

--I'm technically on my second pass-through of the Infinite Intensity model, with modifications along the way, of course. I realized halfway through last time that I was shorting my interval training--somehow, I equated 800m to two minutes of rope skipping when, if I was actually running, it'd be closer to four minutes; therefore, I split the difference and decided to make them three minutes to approximate a round of combative competition. At the same time, I halved the rest interval, again to mimic competition. HO-LEE-SHEE-ITE. This is a good progression for me, but damn, my endurance blows. I miss sprinting.
--I also have decided to focus on corrective movements in any direct core work I do, which means almost no dynamic trunk flexion in the sagittal, just static. Most dynamic work will continue to be done in the front and transverse planes.

--Wow, my O-lift form needs some work. It's been awhile since I've done them at even semi-high intensity, and I'm so paranoid about tweaking my shoulder that it's keeping me from fully relaxing. That said, I want to continue working on them and just keep a very close eye on the shoulder health.
--I was supposed to end with 100 sledgehammer swings, but (a) it had gotten dark outside while doing this workout inside, and (b) I'd eaten a bit too much Chinese food before the workout anyway, so Uncle Pukie was knocking at the gullet.
--In other news, my second-choice house is a go pending an application (no others in line for this one). I'm not sure how much longer I can wait on my first choice, maybe through tomorrow, but after that, I'm just going to have to suck it up and leave it behind, despite how awesome the place is. Of course, I say that now and would give it until Wednesday, I'm sure
