Still no workout and likely won't be for perhaps another week or so. Any and all spare time that doesn't involve passing out is reserved for getting the house in order, which is a workout in itself (it's a 35-year-old house, so there's a lot to do even after all the moving stuff ends). I did finally mow the yard yesterday, albeit with a gas-powered push mower, and it still took almost two hours (had to go slowly because of how high the grass was). I'll keep on top of it with the reel mower for now and see how it goes, but it may simply be too impractical in the long run. Have I mentioned (a) how quiet it is at the new place and (b) how much I <3 attic fans?
The hand is closing up well, even though I popped the main stitch on Saturday's ride (no problems riding, but shaking hands with people didn't help)--I'd still be at least a week from KB swings even if I were working out now. The Door Gym lives in a heavily-trafficked doorway now, so that'll be useful until I find a place to hang the rings and/or get a TRX (there's also a very good possibility of hanging a climbing rope sometime this summer). I haven't done any SMR or TFT for several days, and it's noticeable; hopefully, I can get a little done at work today with The Stick. I've done most all the moving in my new Vibrams, though I've spent some time in regular built-up shoes just to give my feet a bit of a break and ease them into full-time "barefooting" instead of, well, jumping in with both feet.
Speaking of work, this commute thing is will take some getting used to, especially if I continue to ride the Harley in. The biggest thing is the need for a visible clock since I have no concept of time when riding (can I stay in a traffic backup, or do I need to duck off to another route?). It'd also be nice to have an earpiece tuned to my radio station to hear traffic reports and/or a heads-up display in my helmet to see our traffic tweets. That may be asking a bit too much. I will, however, be picking up a sealable thermos for coffee tonight. I just can't down more than a cup at once (usually sip at 2-4 cups until lunchtime).

The Stick.....I looked at it at the running store. I know you love yours. $40 seemed steep, is it WORTH $40?
A climbing rope would be pretty cool.

Honestly, no, not the original Stick; however, I'd buy it again if I got the Stiff Stick--the original is too pliable for my needs. There are a lot of cheaper tools that are just as effective, too (a Thera Cane is $35), and it's not difficult to make your own Stick for a couple bucks at a home improvement store. That said, nothing wrong with trying it out. I mean, there are times when a large foam roller isn't surgical enough, yet a tennis or lacrosse ball doesn't get enough coverage.
I'm stoked for a climbing rope, maybe two (one without knots, one with so I can maybe hook up a TRX to it). Plenty of places to do it, but I'm still at least a few weeks away from getting the house in order.

Yeah, I'm starting to get a little antsy to get back to work, especially with some lower-back pain starting to crop up, but the house continues to take priority. Just so many little things to get done:
--finish hanging blinds and curtains
--tighten down water feeds for clothes washer
--install LOTS of weatherstripping
--LOTS of Round-up and Raid spraying
--fix and/or replace several storm windows
--maybe install storm doors
--build screen doors for screened-in deck (no square angles, so have to be custom-made)
--replace outside door locks so that they, ya know, lock
--install a couple doorknobs, several stoppers, and a few switch plates
--replace a window pane in the master bedroom
--repair a split-rail fence rail that, um, split (downed tree)
--replace a deck banister post
--repair some and finish install rest of screen frame on deck
--build cover for utilities hookup (cable and phone taps are open to the elements)
--replace master bedroom fan (off-balance and wobbly)
--install a tile-carpet transition piece (I <3 stepping on carpet tacks)
--repair fence gate (latch alignment is way off)
--price out or DIY replace jacuzzi heater (not my cup of tea, but might as well have it operational for others who might enjoy it)
--(eventually) swap out plumbing fixtures
And that's not counting having to finish unpacking and sorting through crap to throw away, donate, or sell, which would be nice to have done in the next week or two before going to the beach for a week. A lot of it doesn't have to get done today, but there are enough things that need to be done sooner rather than later that regular workouts just aren't in the picture right now. However, I've been toying with a very extended "week" and doing one exercise per day plus any p/rehab, SMR, etc, so a "week" would actually be a full week, and progression would be much slower, but at least I'd be doing something. My hand is healed up enough to resume upper-body work and KB swings, so I got that going for me.
I'm about halfway through a first run of the IYCA Level 1 materials. It's really good so far, especially the coaching techniques, which I really had no clue about, and this feels a little more practical than CSCS stuff, which can come later if need be as a nice next-step.
I haven't yet mentioned that the A/V cable for my Xbox 360 crapped out the other night. No red ring of death, just no video (audio is fine). I spent some time last night rigging up my old desktop computer to the TV so I can continue catching up on Futurama. In the meantime, I ordered a cheap cable off eBay to see if it really is just the cable; if not, I'll have to send in the console for repairs, which seems to take about a month in most cases. It really does seem like Fallout 3 will take me until October to complete. Nothing wrong with that.

Wow, congrats on the house! It looks like that will keep you pretty busy. As for the XBox cable, we are currently dealing with our big screen Samsung tv being a complete pain in the ass. We have seen what they call the lights of death. Total nightmare. So, I hope the ordered cable works for you.
Anyway, wanted to congratulate you on the house. Hope the hand is healing up.

--It's almost a certainty that I'll have to revert to a gas-powered push mower. The reel mower was nice in theory, but there's (a) a lot of yard (b) that's pretty bumpy and (c) of a grass variety that grows well in shade and drought. Shade part is covered, but plenty of rain so far this year, so there's no keeping up with it. I'd hoped to submit a semi-fake change-of-address request to the post office, but something about my credit card address needing to match one of the form's addresses thwarted that idea, the reason behind it being that I wanted some of those relocation coupons to help offset the cost of a mower (some friends get twenty percent off at Lowe's), so I'll have to figure out something else (maybe open a line of credit there and get whatever one-time discount I can).
--The first major post-beach project is re-screening ALL the windows. I don't think there's a single one that's fully intact. That could end up being an entire weekend.
I did manage to knock off a few things from the above list yesterday (finished dressing all the windows, fixed the deck banister, replaced the window pane, sort of fixed the master BR fan by installing a broken fan control so that it'll spin more slowly and not wobble). I was hoping to get the last of my stuff moved today (books, bookcases, a few other odds and ends), but with rain here, it looks like it'll be more of the little inside things as well as (finally) stocking the kitchen and (sadly) sending off the Xbox360 for repairs.
I was hoping that the beach would mark the BEGINNING of vacation instead of just being the vacation, but it's just not in the cards right now. At least I have plenty to do while the Xbox is away at camp.
Workouts are, of course, not happening. I've done a little mobility and stretching here and there, and having the pull-up bar in a busy doorway has been great for getting in a few sets here and there, but work and projects are probably going to keep formal workouts off the page until after the beach, but it's not like I'm sitting on the couch all day (just when I'm at work, and a lot of that time is going over IYCA stuff). It's nice to know that should my job ever go away, I have some blue-collar options to pursue

I find electric works pretty good, and even with our obnoxious lawn the cord isn't a big deal. Cheaper and no gas to worry about, nor it being a pain in the ass to start (like a cheap gas is).
I find electric works pretty good, and even with our obnoxious lawn the cord isn't a big deal. Cheaper and no gas to worry about, nor it being a pain in the ass to start (like a cheap gas is).
I'd thought about that, but there's just way too much yard here (not that I'm complaining) to mess with a power cord. As much as it pains me to do so, it looks like Wal-Mart is going to get about $500 of my money this weekend (after a few hundred already over the past couple weeks) for a gas-powered push mower, a trimmer, and a not unreasonably-priced gas grill. The yard stuff is a have-to right now; the grill isn't, but there has been, is, and will continue to be a lot of need for a good, small grill, and I am so. freaking. tired. of spending money right now that I figure I'll just get it all out of the way now and play hermit for a few months after. It's not that I can't afford it, but I just hate having to put all this investment into a rental place. Granted, the big items I'm about to get will stay with me, but stuff like the window dressings, door stops, switch plates, and so on may or may not benefit me after December, but I have to make this place livable.
Off the list yesterday and this morning, switch plates, door knobs and stops, and temporary window screens installed (the sliding adjustable ones)--in fact, those screens may negate any pressing need to fix all the frame screens I was looking at since it's not like I'm going to open every window in the house all at once. It's getting to a point, however, that I'm ending the days not feeling like I got anything done, even though the major stuff is getting done bit by bit. Hell, I got up five hours before I have to be at work today (granted, that just means 7am) to get the door stops installed just so I could feel like I finished something, and that was before I made coffee. I don't want to sound like I'm having anxiety issues or anything--I really do enjoy the stuff I've done and have yet to do--but I guess it's just the uncertainty of whether or not I'm going to be here long-term for it to be worth the money and effort.
Okay, done with rambling for now. Oh, by the way...

Lisa, you were right. It didn't work, and I have gone LONGER this time without stretching. My goal over the couple weeks or so before and at the beach is to start getting in some regeneration and prehab work while at work since I can't seem to make myself do it at home right now. Hopefully, that'll translate into putting off house projects here and there and getting back on the workout wagon. I do have to say, though, that I should totally market the "moving diet." I must've lost at least one waist size.

Holy shamokles, you're injured AGAIN?!! (yes I haven't been in here for a while) Glad you're (relatively) ok though.
So the house is a rental, correct? Does that mean you're coming to the summit? Did you get your housework done? Can you send someone to do mine? Am I confused?
See LostDog's log on his attendance plans for the summit.

Yeah, much more acute and short-lived this time (been doing pull-ups semi-regularly this past week). I think the over/under for my next injury was three weeks after full recovery from this one, so that timeframe starts this coming Monday. See RedLefty for your bookie needs.
Yes, it's a rental for now. I'm committed to it through December, at which time I decide to either stay as-is, move to a rent-to-own deal (if not outright own), or leave. Finish the housework? Have you SEEN the list, which has finally stopped growing and is just holding steady now as I finish some things and add others (note: need to add to the list a shim/extension on a fence post and replace the mailbox)?
As for your stuff, four-ish words: will work for food (and airfare)

It's such a fun image and worth going hunting for Let's just say any would-be summit monies have been diverted to household needs (like the aforementioned planet-killing mower and trimmer and grill), so if you or anyone else happens to come by the house, it'll be (a) decently presentable and (b) entirely hospitable, minus a guest bed, just a hide-a-bed couch for now.

I think we're planning a trip to Charlotte sometime soonish… but I see no reason to expose myself to someone who's "made for radio."
You can expose yourself to whomever you want. There's enough privacy as long as the next-door neighbor isn't home... and as long as there's no one happening to look in from the greenway
