Wow. That's a lame store. Mine told me not to bother with new shoes until I got my PF under control, showed me some stretches, and sold me a pair of $24 insoles.
Yeah, they're one of two games in town, and the other is just as bad. Lots of Kool-Aid being ingested at those places.

--Improvements across the board today, for the most part, especially the plyo push-ups. Not sure where that extra burst came from today considering I've been caffeine-free today. Maybe there's something to be said for glucose/glycogen stores (had a mountain of French--er, freedom toast this morning).
--Thus concludes mesocycle #3, at least the formal lifting part. Now for two weeks of back-off work, partly just because it's fun, partly so I can line up the next mesocycle to work around a week-long vacation/writing workshop in Charleston coming up in just over a month. This will also help me decide if I can figure out how to execute my main lifting days without a gym (more FUBAR billing issues this morning).
--Finally re-took all three CSCS practice exams and easily passed all three, though I did bomb the nutrition part of the last one--I just can't seem to completely let go of myself and give the answer they want rather than what's right, though I managed it on the other two. Oh well, there's hope now. One or two more cram sessions on the BS parts, and maybe another re-take, and I'll be ready to roll. Maybe.

--A nice full-body conditioning routine per WotW #30. I added the medicine ball slams to get an explosive anterior chain movement involved since everything else mostly hit the back side.
--Found out today that my work schedule during the next formal mesocycle is gonna be a little FUBAR with the fall NASCAR race here, but I'll get it all done somehow.

Notes:
--Another five weeks passed (sort of, more later). More overall improvement during that time. I moved the snatches from the floor to the hang to try to get a little more pop in them (worked well, should've matched the last effort, but getting through the C&Ps with no modifications beat me down a bit), lower-body superset dropped the rollbacks, and upper-body superset held steady. I was dragging from crappy sleep, but three cups of rocket fuel (aka free radio station coffee) pulled me through.
--I went ahead and decided to start this mesocycle today rather than next weekend due to some work schedule conflicts in a couple weeks, at which point I'll take a mid-cycle back-off week, then finish it out before a couple more weeks "off" while at the beach. As you can see, this past back-off week was more of an off-week, but that allowed me to rest my left leg and get in some dedicated SMR work (rolled the bejeezus out of my left TFL/ITB the other day with a medicine ball after other implements didn't make much difference; this one did, so hopefully it's a start to a fix). Plus, I was having a little trouble recovering from workouts, so the down time couldn't've hurt too much--the dogs kept me active enough.
--Boobies.

Sounds like it's time for a road trip to Cali. You get the beer and I'll bring the hookers.
That's hardly cost-effective on your part to take on that kind of transport job. What are the odds there's already a professional female or ten in Cali?

A: Binge drinking is pretty serious business. It won't be cheap.
B: I never said the hookers would have teeth. You get a couple of 50yo's missing their front 4 on a weekly rate. Quite reasonable really. Plus they're greatfull for the work so you get a little extra *bang* for the buck.
C: You want in? We can swing by Houston. The girls will probably need a shower by that time anyway.
Notes:
--Another cherry popper from WotW #34. I made the run distance 400m instead of the prescribed 300m for simplicity's sake. I know it says 0RI, but trust me, there were plenty of RIs in there.
--It seems that with school back in session around here, the track is busier (and more scenic) on weeknights, especially when there's no game or meet of some kind. And no, I'm not talking about the Pedobear fodder. Well, not exclusively. Hey, look, a monkey!

What the heck was your comment on Lyle's blog supposed to say?? That wasn't English.
I don't think I've directly commented on Lyle's blog before, but he does allow pingback comments, so it was probably a snippet from my blog where I put a link to that particular post on Lyle's blog. Was the title "No Magic Pill"? If so, there's your answer.

Notes:
--A day late posting this as I was rebuilding a computer with Ubuntu and therefore having to learn a few new tricks, but it's up and running beautifully now.
--Some minor improvements, which was surprising since it was a struggle just getting to the gym in the first place.
--Wall squats were especially tough this time considering how they'd gotten easier the past couple rounds. The 1-arm bench presses were surprisingly difficult as well, to the point where I was really unsure of getting through that last set, namely on the left side (major lat contraction to stabilize the load).

--Not much to report other than that time keeps getting harder to beat. It was nice and cool when I did this last night (late posting this due to more computer setup work--nuked Ubuntu and am now trying to install Mandriva).

--More improvements from last time overall; upper-body superset held steady.
--So, here's something interesting (to me) I found out today: when doing pistol squats, I'm much more stable on my right leg; however, when doing those bench step-back/downs (I hope that description makes sense--I'm standing on a bench and stepping back, basically starting with the eccentric part of a step-up and only using a partial ROM to where my back foot barely touches the ground), my left leg is a lot more stable, but just like pistols, I want to keep at these to improve stability before going for a larger, and ultimately full, ROM. I assume it's a motor recruitment pattern thingy. Thoughts?

--Another long-ago repeat, something relatively light given some sleep issues last night and some residual fatigue from yesterday ("working" 6a-9a, 10-6p, read: sitting all day today didn't help).
--To piggyback off the noted imbalances yesterday, I noticed today that holding a load to my left side is, well, just holding a load; however, holding a load to my right side causes a little tug on my left lateral collateral ligament, which makes sense considering the left-side lower-body issues I've been having for awhile. I've been rolling the hell out of everything (getting in 3-5 days per week) with acute improvements in mobility and (lack of) pain, but it all goes away within a few hours. When oh when will I make it to Indianapolis?
--As mentioned before, I'm taking next week "off" due to a crappy work schedule. My goal in that time, along with continued conditioning work, is to test my 1RMs on the big lifts one day. I know my leg/knee/hip issues are there, but I'll be extra diligent in warming up. I just haven't come close to a max lift, and I'd really like to see if/how my squat (and other) numbers have improved over the last four months.

Notes:
--Decent progress from last time. I still can't get through the swings in one set, but the "pop" in the concentric is getting better, so perhaps I can move to two sets in the next iteration or two.
--The lower-body superset absolutely killed me today, but then, there was also more intensity today for some reason, maybe because the pump was primed from the track session yesterday. I dunno, but I'll take it (minus the life-flashing-in-front-of-your-eyes feeling).
--I absolutely blew through Ender's Game today. Excellent read, and of course, as I feared, I want to continue the series now (I think Speaker for the Dead is next). However, I finally got hold of my first NSCA journals in the mail late last week, so as it stands, I need to read: two NSCA journals (one lighter, one heavier), all the AARRs (only scanned through them but haven't really read), and a half-dozen other PDF documents, not to mention re-readings of Dilemma and Zebras. That sugar mama can come along any day now... call me...

If it takes the pressure off, I thought the Ender series got weaker as it went. Not that it was bad -- it just couldn't hold up to that incredible opening.

Good to know some things don't change in literature, for the most part (My Ishmael comes to mind as another *blah*, though The Story of B was bitchin'--I liked all three of the His Dark Materials trilogy for more than just the underlying themes). I may pick up the series at some point, but I still have to get into the Eastern philosophy pile I have (Five Rings, Art of War, Tao Te Ching again, probably others) at some point. I swear, I'm never going to get to everything I want to read. I don't think it's humanly possible, though I'm still taking sugar mama applications, so ya never know.

The first Ender novel is certainly the pinnacle of Card's work. The others are different in tone, but they really had to be.
In my opinion, an "average" Card novel is usually far better than the typical SF author's work.
