I bet you burned way more calories then you think!
I would rather do the hauling and hiking up the mountain then the computer work any day. I make a point to be on my feet almost the entire time after work until I go to bed, and its so hard to even hit 2400 cals burned with an intense workout. NEAT, FTW
I agree! What the GWF has really driven home to me is that my 1-hr workouts really don't matter in the grand scheme of things. It's what I do during the rest of the day that truly counts.
And sadly, what I do during the rest of the day is primarily sit at a computer. Wish I could get my company to invest in treadmill desks.

*I worked out at home this morning--we have a home gym type contraption that my brother-in-law is storing in the shop, which has a low cable attachment. BUT I couldn't make the cable stay on the pulleys, so had to sub a Barbell Bent-Over Row.
Pushups: (total 50 reps, sets of 20-22)
20
20
10
*First set was hands immediately under shoulders, elbows tight. I actually started slowing down at 18, but forgot that I should stop then (oops), so the next two sets were a slightly wider "stance", since I couldn't lower the weight, elbows still in.
Squat: (total 50 reps, sets of 20-22)
22x65#
20x65#
8x65#
*Staying at 65# was more about form than the fact that it was too heavy. I was having a hard time staying upright at the bottom for some reason...
So even though I complained about the high reps, 90 seconds of rest was plenty, so it wasn't really bad. I just like whining! However, on a serious note, I seem to have done something to my back right under my left shoulderblade. I thought it was a cramp at first, but it's just really painful, makes it difficult to breathe...I'm going to try to ice it while I drive into town to pick up my daughter and get groceries. But owie, I am extremely uncomfortable.
In other news, my nephew flew in from Colorado last night, got here about 1:00 am. He's staying for a few weeks to work for us and go to a wilderness camp with my older kids. Everyone is really excited! (Especially Luke, who keeps wanting to go in and wake him up...)
Sorry about the shoulder. I'm not much of a fan of higher reps. I always think that I should pile on the weight, but then can't follow through with enough decent form reps.

Thanks to both of you. It's more along my lats than shoulder--a friend said it sounds like I have a rib out. Although I doubt it b/c after the initial couple hours of sharp pain and difficulty taking a deep breath, it has improved so I can pretty much do whatever I need to. It is still very sore, so I'll label it a "tweak!"
Okay, so we'll call today Coudersport's epiphany regarding Vibrams. It was a funny, funny morning! The lady at the grocery store actually stopped running my groceries through in order to lean waaay over the counter and ask me 20 questions about them! Then in the hardware store, the manager, who was measuring out some rope for me, noticed them and we had a conversation. On checkout, a group of three guys waiting in line just about had a cow exclaiming over them! One of them even made me go out to his car to show his wife, lol! She was so excited she had to write down the name and everything. Made me laugh!
So I spent all of $22 today on my (hmm, what shall I call it?) "outdoor gym supplies?" I bought 2 50# bags of sand for sandbags, and a bunch of rope. Here's my makeshift dragging sled plans till I can get something better (if I even need an improvement, we'll see I've got an old truck tire, drilled a hole through it for an eyebolt with washers and nuts on each side. Threaded a rope through the eyebolt, and tied knots in both ends of the rope. Found some old scrap boards to put in the tire for a platform, throw on some rocks, weight plates, or the sandbags, and drag it around the yard!
Taylor, Robin, and I were having a lot of fun dragging it around tonight (that's what I mean by saying my rib isn't out, lol!) I'm planning a trip to the army surplus store maybe tomorrow to get some duffelbags to put the sandbags in, but for now they're double bagged and duct taped.
I have some extra rope left over that I want to hang up somewhere to try out before I invest in the good, expensive stuff, but it's not hung yet. And I may have a tire coming, a farmer from about 1/2 hr away emailed me last night after my freecycle posting, but I haven't heard from him since then. I promise pics tomorrow--right now it's kind of dusky and I have no more energy. Someone stole it! (And it's time to go fold laundry anyway. )

I've thrown a rib before. It's not much fun. If you can find a good sports chiro, they'll be able to pop it back in place.

Great idea for a sled!
I think it's just a pulled or tweaked muscle, b/c like I said, I was dragging that sled around last night, so it obviously didn't hurt too bad.
As far as the idea, I saw one similar on a youtube video, and figured that would be easy to make. I actually have an old, rickety wheelbarrow that my husband said we could take apart, but it will be more of a production to attach ropes or something to, and this seems to work fine. Only thing is, I can't push it.

Hope you are feeling better.
Yeah, in Stage 7 of NROL4W, I only did 15 whenever it called for 15-20! But really, 90 seconds of rest made it much more bearable.
Today the back is ok. More of an annoyance than anything. Weird.

I was going to take pics this morning when I worked out but it's RAINING!!! Supposedly it'll stop this afternoon, maybe I'll get a chance then.

Well I managed to almost workout tonight with my new setup, but after I got everything set up and pulled the "sled" across the yard one time, it started POURING rain, after raining basically the entire day. I let the one clear 30 minute period go to waste, I guess! But here's a pic (yup, my cheap camera shows its worth--all of a sudden there's lines across everything, so it needs to go back to the store. )
The large sandbags are 63-65#, the smaller ones are both 32#. I don't know how much the sledgehammer weighs.
As usual, this log is flying by so it takes me a while to catch up!
Anyway, thanks for the details on the Archery festival. Sound cool and badass (bows and arrows and hauling heavy fake animals!!!)
Sorry about your back. It sounds like my back tweak from June (right at the bra line on my right side). EC told me that if you have an injury, this is a good place to have one due to the high amount of blood flow and thereofore improved recovery. In my case, he was right but it took about 3 weeks to totally work itself out. Hope you aren't feeling it that long.
And lastly, I hear ya on 20 rep workouts.....they just suck!!!
We had rain pretty much all day as well. That's annoying about the camera though. Doesn't matter how cheap it is, it should work.
Exactly. and $100 isn't pocket change, just cheap for a digital camera. Argh. And we got it in Williamsport, which means a 1.5 hr drive each way.

Yeah, just those two little sandbags are enough to have me winded when pulling 100' across the back yard. The rain didn't even seem to make it easier like I expected, lol!

Hi Rebecca! I'm just glad to see you in here, doesn't matter if you catch everything. I really hope I'm not still feeling this for three weeks too! I'm still in the mindset that I'll be better when I wake up tomorrow.

I've got to do me some research and get some ideas for different "routines" though. So far my plan for tonight was to pull the sled across the yard, do sledgehammer stuff (both sides) for however long seemed reasonable, carry one heavy sandbag back across (walking lunges), some pushups, etc etc etc. Just gotta play around with it, I guess. Who knows, I may get twice across and think that's a good workout, lol!
One time I put weighted jacket into a canvas bag and did body slams with it. It was fun and a great workout --- probably similar to sledge hammers.
Have Fun
Ooh, that sounds like fun, too! Getting all sorts of cool ideas!
Huge in a Hurry, by Chad Waterbury
Get Ready: Week 2, Workout A
Heavy Load (Weight: ???) "Forgot" to weigh myself, lol. (Actually I did forget, but it wouldn't have been pretty. I have not been tracking, which means I have not been eating very well either. Healthy, but not in moderation.)
*Okay this is sort of ridiculous. As a refresher, for those not familiar with HIAH, you are supposed to choose a weight that you can lift with good speed and form for 4-6 reps, you should continue to 7 reps if the load you choose ends up being too easy and you don't slow down at all by six. So I obviously had trouble figuring this one out--last week I started at 70#! 150 ended up being the right weight, I'm thinking I should just do inverted rows next time, if this exercise shows up again.
*I didn't want to have one more set of ONE rep, so yeah, I did 7 reps for the last set!
Heavy Bag Work: 10 minutes, high intensity, with a little breather here and there. Very sweaty!
Static Stretching: Wowee, it's becoming a habit! (Which reminds me, I did a whole long foam rolling and stretching session yesterday that I never logged. Whoopie.)
*No interesting gym stories, considering I was the ONLY person in the gym. No staff, even. So this was very fun, again, and I'm getting the hang of paying attention to the speed of my lifts in addition to the quality. My back/rib/whatever was okay, still tweaked a bit, so whatever. I'll just keep an eye on it.
Other items of note:
We are now 1/3 of the way through our SECOND 20# box of cherries! Between my immediate family, dd's friend that has practically been living here, and my nephew that IS currently living here, the first box lasted about 24 hrs. I picked up a second one yesterday at dinnertime and it's disappearing quickly also.
We had two campers on Thursday night show up at Denton. Crazy! People show up a WEEK ahead of time for this festival--there aren't even any showers open until Tuesday!
Cool gym! Makes me wish I had a yard to put a tire and sandbags in.

Did this with no rest, except a breather here or there (<10 sec).
Circuit 1, twice through:
A1: Tire "high" pull (65# sandbags) 100'
*Walking backwards, pulling ropes at upward angle over shoulders
A2: Tire "low" pull (65# sandbags) 100'
*Pulling ropes straight back, around waist height
A3: Sandbag Shoulder/Reverse Lunge 65# (8/side, 6/side)
*Stole this from Roland , shoulder sb left, rev lunge each leg, shoulder sb right, rev lunge each leg (Could NOT get that sb up after 6 in the second round!)
Cool back yard workouts! It reminds me of when my brother and I made a renegade gym in my parents basement over Christmas...old hockey stick in the rafters as a pull up bar
Those split squats are insane! Lookin' good in here
