Hey, there!

Just popping into your log. Man, big changes for you, huh?

In re: food rut. Run, do not walk. Get out! I'm having an ongoing one night stand with my foreman grill, and have been for years now. Every night, I think it's for the last time.... until I'm starving the following day and have no energy or time to be creative.

I eat a looooooooot of lean ground beef.

LOL.

So I suppose the low volume week is in lieu of a real full on rest week? To give your muscles/joints a little break for a heavier load?

Nice job on the squats!! And totally cute stuff...I always get that catalog in the mail and whimper...they don't carry my size...but..I have to look...cause it's all so cute! I'd take that tummy too....

I know! Its not like I am some magic mind that I know what to do in the weight room. I read some books and follow a plan that someone else came up with! I thought about this when I was on the treadmill yesterday watching the nautilus area. I saw so many women doing the calf raise machine and tricep exercises...not that there is anything wrong with those things, but I always wonder if they know why they are doing those. Just because they saw someone else do them?
That's the cool thing--that we don't have to be amazing with all kinds of knowledge sprouting from our ears (not that I don't want to get there, just not there yet...)--but we can still do amazing programs that help us reach our goals because we are willing to READ, ask questions, watch videos, and do what the book says!

As for the calf raises and triceps kickbacks, I hear ya. I actually find it painful to watch women slinging 5# dbs around, doing endless crunches, or whatever. But not everyone is ready for change, or is even interested. I suppose that the ones who ask about what we're doing, are the ones to share with.

Yeah--I know I need a low volume week, but I did miss that half-dead, I'm going to puke any minute now, feeling! I do think I need this though. Last week was plenty hard.

Hi Tina--you made me laugh! Esp since I'm having a turkey burger on ww toast right now... Thanks for stopping by this crazy place! You may see a workout logged every now and then, even.

I think so--it's every four weeks, and I believe it's a little like a deload week. Cressey talks about letting your CNS catch up with your muscles, etc. Plus you're supposed to come back with more energy and strength after a low volume week. We'll see.

Thanks about the squats. I was specially happy b/c that's the one where I keep saying I need to lower the weight, but not making a note in my paper log, so I automatically try to raise it. 140 was just right. I DID make it to parallel, and the very last rep of the last set I did lean forward a little (accidentally) as I came back up. So any more sets and I would have lowered the weight.

Oh yeah, I always get the Athleta catalog and whimper too--everything is SO cute, but expensive. I usually throw it out right away so I won't be tempted!

If you are still looking for stuff to eat, here is something that I've been eating alot lately, its really quick to prepare and is tasty.

Its kind of a breakfast burrito:

1. scramble some eggs (i usually use 2 eggs and 2 whites) in a bowl.
2. sautee some green pepper and onions for a few minutes, when they are ready put the eggs in and cook the eggs.
3. When they are done add a serving of black beans and some salsa (i like medium for a little heat).
4. Put this mixture into a Flat-Out wrap and put a serving of low-fat mozzarella cheese on top and add some salt and pepper, and roll it up.

I usually have a protein shake on the side for some extra protein. Comes out to around 650 calories or so (with the protein shake), with a ton of fiber.

I WANT dat now, lol!!!! Hmmm...I'm still in the middle of lunch! Okay, another one to add to breakfast--thanks! I love salsa, tons. So I've never seen a flatout wrap, though I've heard of them from several others. Do you think they would be more like a ww tortilla (I have regular and low carb, high protein) or Joseph's lavash bread. I'm thinking the tortillas.

You should see if there are any stores in your area that carry Flatouts. They are soooo good!

I do my grocery shopping at Walmart and they have them there. I would think they would have them at most grocery stores.

Put it in the oven for a few minutes on each sides and it works really good as a pizza crust.

Every time I come in here I see red. You should be the spokes model for Maximum Strength because there is a whole lotta strength going on here! You have me wanting to do this program now too!

How long do the workouts usually take you?

I'm excited about it! I'd LOVE for more of you ladies to join us! So here's the breakdown for the workouts:
Foam Rolling: 10-15 min
Warmup: 10 min
Workout: 30-70 min
Stretching: 5-10 min
(This is a sort of an estimate, but I used to take about an hour from the time I started the warmup until I finished stretching. This week is so short that I even ran on the tm for 10 min today and still finished up in an hour. Last week though took a lot longer.)

It takes 16 weeks from beginning to the end. There are four phases--the first phase, which I'm finishing up this week, is the "Foundation." Phase 2 is "Build"--here's a quote from the first paragraph of that chapter: "If you thought Phase 1 was challenging, brace yourself for Phase 2. And if you thought the first four weeks of the Maximum Strength Program were fun, get ready to have a blast during the next four weeks." I may be a little frightened! It sounds like each stage has almost completely different exercises, too, like NROL4W. Phase 2 has step-ups , Barbell Rollouts, Glute-Ham Raise, Single Leg Squat, Med Grip Pull-up, Incline Bench Press, Flat DB Bench Press, Head Supported DB Row (!), Cable Backhand, Zottman Curls, Elevated Deadlifts, DB Reverse Lunge, Pallof Press, Close Grip Bench Press, Chest Supported Row, and Inverted Row. Well I don't know why I typed all that out except it was interesting to see what's coming! So many of those exercises are new to me, but Cressey's descriptions in the book are very good, and I usually look for some good videos also...

Holy guacamole, did I miss a lot in here! Celeste, you're rocking through this Max Strength program. Have you decided whether you need to brace yourself for Phase 2 or "get ready to have a blast"?

Excellent squats, too. I'm impressed!!

And I love most of the songs you were listening to... I like country too, though not allll the time, hehe. And Taylor Swift is my bf's other gf, lol... or so he wishes. I told him she's a tad young for him, but he said "hey! she's legal now!" Oh boy.
LOL!!! I'm a little sick of Taylor Swift ever since my daughter got her new cd for Christmas, but I DO love "Love Story"--teen girl-ish that it may be, it makes me tear up every time!

Excellent squats, too. I'm impressed!!
I'm definitely ready to have a blast (but I'm still bracing myself!!)

Thanks Jane. I know country music is either love it or hate it, but hey, I love it!

Now I need to get my butt off here and get to work...that cup of coffee and a short break ended up more like half an hour or so...and I've been so industrious lately! Don't want to backslide.

Okay now this is MY kind of log. Girls on strength programs. Does it get any hawter than that? LOL!

I admit to freaking out about the bulk when I see my belly getting bigger BUT it is so bad ass to log all these reds all the time. I love strength program trainng. It is so hard that I actually look forward to deload and rest weeks.

LOL, Karla! I do love this, although I'm not quite going on a bulk yet. I'm just getting used to maintenance so far... I keep THINKING my belly's getting bigger though!!!

Aren't we cool?!

ETA: Oh darn, we lost our top spot--you have to scroll about a quarter way down the page to see the article, but the pic is the coolest thing anyway.
