*Since I was doing fewer sets I thought I'd try to up the weight. I did manage 4 on each leg with good form, but knew I would deteriorate quickly if I didn't switch. Funny note, I actually was using one 40 and one 45! After the last set my forearms were burning so bad I didn't know if I could get the DBs back to the rack... Also felt like puking so I'm vindicated for being too wimpy to raise the weight.
Did you feel unbalanced ? I think that you did really well with the 35s already. The heavier dumbbells are hard to hold onto.
On that note, I saw that you won the Open Challenge in the Training Discussion forum and I thought I'd just congratulate you here rather than both places, so CONGRATULATIONS--you did fantastic!
Indeed, congrats on winning the 2nd Half challenge.

Holy cow! I eat dinner and come back to find out everyone's congratulating me! Thanks so much everyone for the congrats--I am SO grateful for the challenge--it forced me to set goals that revolved around something other than losing weight, and really kept me accountable knowing I'd have to tell everyone how I did each month. Can't wait for the next one!

Yes, I did--I thought it was just b/c the dbs were too heavy though.

Hey, if it works for you, go for it! You're just surrounding yourself with inspiration instead of, say, salty snacks and sugary beverages. You go, girl!

Wow! You're so awesome, Celeste. Now I have to go find where your winner status is posted. How cool is that?! Congrats.

Congrats, Celeste. I didn't follow the other challenge so it took me a minute to realize what we were talking about. LOL. I'll go check it out. Nice job!
(I'm so far behind, I didn't even see where to vote!!!)

Thanks everyone! You all are so supportive--I luv this place!
Well, just got home from a crazy but fun day! We had a homeschool field trip and went ice skating in Olean, it was a BLAST! So I'll post this morning's workout tomorrow, right now I'm beat and am looking for my bed!
Yesterday's workout: Maximum Strength, by Eric Cressey Phase 1: Foundation Week 2 (Medium) Day 2 (Upper Body) Weight: 124.0 Warmup: Foam Rolling/Tennis Ball (at home) Dynamic Warmup #1
A: Bench Press: 4x4
4x85#
4x80#
4x80#
4x80#
*I really had a hard time keeping my elbows in, so I dropped off some weight to work on that.
B: DB Press, Neutral Grip: 3x9
9x25e
9x25e
9x25e
*Not really a PR or anything--I've done less reps at higher weight, but better than I was able to do last time I did this workout!
C: Seated Cable Row:
10x60#
10x70#
10x70#
10x70#
*Went up on this also. Of course, on the cable machine at my other gym, pulleys and such being different, I was at 150# if you go by plates but I'm sure it wasn't really...
D1: Prone Trap Raise: 3x12
12x5e
12x5e
12x5e
D2: Side Lying External Rotaton: 3x12 each side
12/sidex8#
12/sidex8#
12/sidex8#
*Felt like I did much better with these today--I really felt it where I should in my shoulder. I wasn't keeping my elbow still enough last week.
Oooooo ice skating...that sounds like FUN! Except for the falling...which I do quite often...
It was loads and loads of fun--I just have to post about my day, but right now I must go...more to come later! (And btw, I didn't even fall, though I expected to. I always tell my kids that if they don't fall while skiing/skating/etc that they're not getting any better. Sounds counterintuitive, but usually if you push yourself there's bound to be crashes.)
Oh, and Tom, I got the Kerrygold Dubliner!!!! I'm in LUV!!!!

Okay, I guess when I said later, I meant way later! Well, I got a lot accomplished today anyway. So yesterday--we had a great day, but here's a little glimpse of how it started out:
1. Micah decided 1/2 hr before we were to leave that he really didn't want to go ice skating (crying and everything).
2. So we made a plan for him to go to work with Daddy, packed him some toys, and I focused on getting the other kids ready.
3. A friend called, one kid was sick, could I take two of her others? Sure.
4. Another friend called, could I take her daughter? Sure.
5. FIVE minutes before we were to go, Shawn, misunderstanding the purpose of the plan, talked Micah back into going skating with us. Grr. I flew by, asked him if he had a lunch, he said yes, I said get in the car!
6. In town, I pulled out RIGHT in front of a cop, turning right at a red light, no less. He must have been in a good mood.
7. Dropping off Luke at a friend's house, I ran into their front step! Don't worry, it was stone. But I was embarrassed!
8. Found out that Taylor forgot his lunch and Micah's "lunch" that he said he had, was crackers and an apple!
9. Picking up another kid, I put my car window down to talk to her parents, and it wouldn't go back up! Did I mention it's 10 degrees?! I managed to pull it back up, but then it wouldn't stay up, so I DUCT taped it. Worked for a while. But we had a cold ride.
Aaack! That was just the beginning! But once we got there, we had SO much fun! We all got our skates and got onto the ice. I've only been skating once since I was a little kid, but after once around I got the hang of it. Micah had a hard time, but the staff person gave him a little ice "walker" that he could hold onto and push himself around on the ice. It was a pretty funny sight!
The only weird thing was, I was the ONLY mother out there. Out of eight families! Once I realized that I felt really awkward, but after a bit I figured, whatever, it was fun. So the first half hour or so, I could skate, but don't ask me to stop or turn fast. Then I could turn fast, but not stop fast, so I really wished all the little kids would stop falling in front of me! After a little longer, though, it was just like skiing and it was awesome! We were flying around the rink, playing tag, racing, dancing--we REALLY didn't want it to end! We had three hours to skate and took about 5 minutes to eat lunch (oh yeah, the snack bar wasn't open, so Taylor and Micah shared my lunch and bought pop-tarts and slim jims from the ticket office--yuk!) At lunchtime, most of the families left because it was snowing, and they didn't want the long drive home on bad roads. I didn't care so we stayed and had the whole rink to ourselves (and the three extra kids I had with me!).
Of course afterwards I got calls from Denton asking me to stop at WalMart and BJ's and Staples, and by THEN the roads actually were bad, but we made it home (open window and all) and then on to race team practice. I was STARVING since I had to give away half my lunch, but I thought since it was Shawn's night off maybe we'd go out or at least eat at home--he ended up asking me to go skiing (BIG deal for him, he only skis a couple times a year). SOO we ate fast food at the snack bar and skiied for the evening! I THINK I got some activity in yesterday! I haven't added up my calories/macros yet for yesterday, but since I used the whole wheat bread and Kerrygold Dubliner cheese I had gotten at BJ's to go on my chicken sandwich, and only had half an order of fries, I think I was okay, or at least reasonable.
Whew! That was a long runon post--but it was a fun day, I just had to share!!
